Today I have brought you one of the most awaited videos on our UA-cam channel. We will be talking about one of the most used auxiliary verbs 'could'. Could have various meanings and can be used in many different ways depending on the situation. It can be used in all present, past, and future tense. I hope after watching this video, you will be able to understand all uses of 'could.'

1. Could - possibility (present, past, future) (सक्छ /सक्थ्यो /सक्नेछ)
Subject + could + verb 1 + object
It could rain yesterday/today/tomorrow.
आज पानी पर्नसक्छ / हिजो पानी पर्न सक्थ्यो/ भोलि पानी पर्न सक्नेछ।
We could help you.
हामी तिमीलाई सहयोग गर्न सक्थ्यौं /सक्छौँ /सक्नेछौं।
2. Could - making request (सक्नु हुन्छ ? भनि अनुरोध गर्न) (Subject =You)
Could + subject + verb 1 + object
Could you turn off the radio?
के तपाईं रेडियो बन्द गरिदिन सक्नुहुन्छ ?
Could you check my homework?
के तपाईं मेरो गृहकार्य जाँच गरिदिन सक्नुहुन्छ ?
3. Could- asking for permission (गर्नु सक्छु ? भनि अनुमति माग्न )(Subject =I, We)
Could + subject + verb 1 + object
Could we watch the T.V.?
के हामी टि.भी. हेर्न सक्छौं ?
Could I ask a question?
के म एउटा प्रश्न सोध्न सक्छु ?
4. Could - suggestion (सक्छौ भनि सल्लाह, सुझाब दिन अथवा बिचार राख्न )
Subject + could + verb 1 + object
You could go there.
तिमी त्यहाँ जान सक्छौँ।
You could apply for the job.
तिमी जागिरको लागि आवेदन दिन सक्छौ।
5. Could - past ability (पहिला सक्थ्यो भनि क्षमताको बारेमा कुरा गर्दा)
Subject + could + verb 1 + object
She could speak in English.
उनी अंग्रेजीमा बोल्न सक्थिन्।
They could sing a song.
तिनीहरु गीत गाउन सक्थे।
6. Could - conditional (सक्छ वा सक्नेछ) -सर्तात्मक वाक्यमा - present, future
If + (simple past), Subject + could + verb1 + object
If I had a camera, I could take pictures.
यदि मसंग क्यामेरा भए म फोटोहरु लिन सक्छु।
If he had a dictionary today, He could learn English.
यदि आज उसंग शव्दकोष भयो भने उ अंग्रेजी सिक्ने छ।
7. Could be - possibility (बन्न/हुन सक्छ वा सक्थ्यो भनि सम्भावना व्यक्त गर्दा )-past /present
Subject + could be + object
We could be late.
हामी ढिला हुन सक्छौं /सक्थ्यौँ।
She could be sick.
उनी बिरामी हुन सक्छिन्/सक्थिन्
8. Could be + verb 3 - (सकिन्थ्यो वा सकिन्छ)possibility (past/present) (Passive)
Subject + could be + verb 3 + object

They could be given some medicine.

9. Could have (हुन सक्छ वा हुन सक्थ्यो)-Present/Past
Subject + could have + object
We could have a house.
हामीसंग घर हुनसक्छ/सक्थ्यो।
She could have some food.
उनीसंग केहि खानेकुरा हुनसक्छ/सक्थ्यो।
10. Could have + verb 3 (सकेको भए हुन्थ्यो) -past
Subject + could have + verb 3 + subject
She could have come to the party.
उनी पार्टीमा आउन सकेको भए हुन्थ्यो ।
They could have participated in the game.
तिनीहरु खेलमा सहभागी हुन सकेको भए हुन्थ्यो।
11.Could have been - (भएको वा बनेको हुन सक्थ्यो )- past

They could have been sad.
तिनीहरु दुखी भएको हुन सक्थे।
We could have been doctors.
हामी डाक्टर भएको हुन सक्थ्यौं।
12. Could have had (भएको हुन सक्थ्यो ) past
subject+ could have had + object
3. We could have had a house.
हामीसंग घर भएको हुनसक्थ्यो। .
She could have had some food.
उनीसंग केहि खानेकुरा भएको हुन सक्थ्यो।
13. Could have to (गर्नु पर्ने हुन सक्छ /गर्नु पर्ने हुन सक्थ्यो ) - present, past
subject+ could have to + verb 1 + object
You could have to take the medicine.
तिमीले औषधि लिनु पर्ने हुन सक्छ/ सक्थ्यो ।
She could have to go to school.
उनी विद्यालय जानु पर्ने हुनसक्छ/सक्थ्यो ।
14. Could have had to (गर्नु पर्ने हुन सक्थ्यो)
Subject + could have had to + verb 1 + object
you could have had to eat rice.
तिमीले भात खानु पर्ने सक्थ्यो।
He could have had to go to the party.
उ पार्टीमा जानु पर्ने सक्थ्यो ।
