I have been keeping my eye (listen to me keep an eye for 7 years) on Arma in the past couple of months, watching gameplay, keeping an eye on the player base and seeing it above 20k every time I have a look at it I started to get extremely hyped because It is the only game I had in my wishlist for which I was absolutely sure that I was going to have a blast playing it! The day has come as Arma went to its second sale (yes I missed the first one) and I have finally bought Arma two days ago and I have 26 hours already. As a total newb thanks for this. I've watched a few guides, all of which have their good points, but this being split into chapters means I can skip to what I need when I need. I shall be trying out your settings etc. Thanks so much.
Best tutorial I’ve ever seen! I got arma 3 about a year ago and tried playing right when I got it and I got very overwhelmed with all of the controls and I didn’t know what to do or where to go, so I quit playing it. Until now.. after watching this entire video and downloading you’re files I’m actually enjoying the game! Thank you for the best Tutorial for us noobs.
I like how Arma 3 is from 2013 yet this tutorial is from 2021. And I was just asking myself earlier whether or not I should buy the game while it's on sale or if it would be a waste buying it this late. On a budget, so I might grab the game now since it's only $7.50 and get some of the DLC later on as I go. Thanks for the in depth tutorial! Although I might just mess with controls and loadouts myself. Middle mouse seems a bit unnatural compared to most games as an "interact" button. F seems more appropriate, but I may change my mind given how in depth these controls are.
No worries! Also, I had the same mindset as you when ai started, if you decide to change the controls with your current knowledge you will slowly find yourself leaning back to my controls. You'll slowly find why I did what I did when you figure out the game functions xD But I'm not stopping you.
@@randomshittutorials Ok, update time: Bought the game, played with a friend on a few different servers, and did some of the single player scenarios and a few from the Steam workshop. The default controls are so unnatural. It's one of those rare cases where you almost don't have enough keys to play the game since so many of them have secondary functions. I've learned three things so far. 1. You always need to know what stance to be in and when, otherwise you're getting shot or won't have your gun ready in time enough 2. Apparently they have an in depth difficulty system as well, and AI are just as good as other players. They don't take PvE lightly. and most importantly, 3. I'm dogshit at heli controls.
An excellent tutorial/introduction, I haven't played Arma for about 10 years (I played the Arma X physical disks). I think I'm going to build a decent pc again and get Arma III. Cheers Joel

thank you so much, I started playing arma a week ago and your keybindings seems a lot better. I can recommend to play the first campaign the hints are a great help to understand what to do and learn the commands

This is truly a masterpiece! Beautiful graphics, great gameplay and the realism is incredible. Once you know how to play it properly you will quickly realize that this game is second to none!
DayZ saw a similar surge a year and a half ago, and is always poppin' around the autumn time ;) When I fix my PC's BSoD, I'll consider your guide and try Arma3! 😊
Newbie here: Picked up Arma 3 and Apex to begin with, and felt lost as soon as I started x'D It's was like booting up Elite Dangerous for the first time back when it didn't have a starting zone. Which are some of the more educaional/serious and open to noob servers out there? Goofing around is fine, but I'd like to find some friendly goups that know a lot, but are ok with noobish mistakes x'D
Without buying all the dlc, its still enjoyable it really depends on your playstyle or how you want to play the game (with mods maybe if you learn about the game more), just get Apex DLC for example as a starters it has alot of cool weapons you might want to use, Marksman is nice if you prefer content with snipers with a really good ghillie included, Helicopter and Jets if you're a fly boy who wants more aircraft (really good ones), Laws of War has a very good story telling and give you more knowledge about rules of war, Karts for gags and its cheap anyway, so why not, Contact has decent campaign and some cool content but depends on what you prefer, and lastly Creator DLC, these DLCs are optional and not come as vanilla DLC, buy it if you like what you see but it won't be in vanilla ArmA MP unless the server is made for that. edit: Tanks is really cool as well recommended.
Lol. My son just built me a gaming PC for Xmas. I think I purchased the hardest games in the industry to start off my journey of PC gaming. Thought I wouldn't need to watch an hour long video to play a game. Got wrecked.. Came back and watched, basically, twice due to rewinding sections. Lol. Controls are great. Everything is making sense. Not enough to play coop or mp but just enough to continue with the campaign. Salute
I finally broke away from being a console peasant and got myself a PC, I’ve been wanting to play this game for years. Thanks for all the info, really appreciate it
Fantastic tutorial. Last multiplayer game i played was novalogic's typhoon rising, essentially an expansion pack for joint operations. But i loved the large multiplayer capacity and the strategic team work involved. Arma iii looks like a combination and evolution of that and the army's game they put out. Sold!

Hey, thank you for making such a great tutorial. I just got the game after the summer sale on steam and after watching this video I actually can understand the game. although I am having an issue with the arsenal and loadouts. When I paste in the files I get the controls you configured but not the loadouts. I spent a bit myself making a few but I just wanted to ask if you had any ideas for a fix.
if you are trying to do it with an alternive profile you have to go to that file insted of the main file and just load the game a couple of times and it worked. (some user's comment) 13:42 If the loadouds don't work for you I'm sorry. Arma likes to play tricks on different people. It also matters what profiles you've made. Many people had this issue and managed to fix it. I recommend you go INTO the files and just copy paste the text from there (loadout info for example) into your own files instead, that should work. In any way, hope this works for you :)
I believe a more efficient movement config than WASD is to use Sec. Mouse for moving forward. This is because the middle finger of your mouse hand usually has access to only one button (Sec. Mouse), which makes it the best candidate for operating the button that needs to be held down the most (forward); and holding down Sec. Mouse doesn't restrict the freedom of thumb and index finger either. This setup increases the freedom of your keyboard hand because its middle finger doesn't need to be anchored to one key (W) so often, because doing so reduces the freedom of other fingers.
911 What's your emergency? _"Yeah I got someone here who's going insane, they want to switch forward movement from 'W' to the middle mouse button.."_ What's the adress?
@@dandanny434 you can‘t “download“ settings you just have to copy them as far as I know. Can‘t guarantee tho Edit: my bad didn‘t watch till the settings part.
A few added control tips, that I use... " W+S " Walk/Jog toggle :: Reverse lean keys R = Q - and Q is R :: Use mouse button 4 and 5 separately to activate scope, and shift scope mode
I tried Arma 3 for the first time a few years ago. I found everything about it complicated, from the controls to movement, missons, etc. I uninstalled not long after buying it. It's just too much to deal with.
I just found Arma 3. I haven't been very big into FPS shooters on pc since Team fortress classic...but I'm starting to get into them again. I have burned 100 hours on HLL, and just happened to learn about Arma 3 and saw it on steam for sale. I'm literally brand new to this, and just starting my journey. Thank you very much for this, much appreciated.
Great Video BTW, But, The files just revert and im not sure what to do(edit) nevermind it worked, if you are trying to do it with an alternive profile you have to go to that file insted of the main file and just load the game a couple of times and it worked
Good playerbase and still worth getting into? Considering buying this but wanted to make sure I'm not wasting my time. I assume I'm not but figured I'd ask.
It really depends on you. I'm not sponsored or affiliated with anyone or group or company. In other words, I made this tutorial purely because of my love for the game. All I know is 2 things. 1: The game has a big learning curve 2: Whoever succesfully breaches that curve tells me this is the best game ever. You either love it, or you.. wel you havn't played it long enough xD
I personally would say it’s still worth getting into. If you’re creative, you have a mission editor, craving action? Join a King of The Hill match and fight in a battlefield with upwards of 100+ players. Want to chill/grind? Join a Life(RP) server? Want SERIOUS rp? Join the numerous mil-sim groups. Hell want to play Halo or Star Wars? Then join a server with that. There are endless possibilities and you will see the true colors of this game if you have the patience for all its quirks and issues. Hope you enjoy it if you decide on buying it.

2 hours a day is indeed a downside. As a working person, I give 2 hours to a gym and hardly ever spend more than an hour playing any game. If you give a lot of time to anything it better give you some financial or health benefts. IMHO
I agree. Allthough there is a beauty the fact that you don't have to think about time while playing it. It allows you to feel like you're taking part in some event rather than a game with a timer. Also it allows you to enjoy the smallest things more.. You don't need action now. You can just enjoy the situation, or talk with your tank buddies.
@@randomshittutorials True, especially if you are into 'socializing'. I, on the other hand, have always been 70% more into a single player type of experience because I just GOTTA be in charge of my people:) all the time, and I consider it a blessing cuz it means I can play as long as I want and whenever I want. On my channel, there are only single-player gaming videos. ...But I think I should play with others more, at least for a change.
"The game has been optimised over the years" No it's not, it's still one of the worst running pc games out there, good pc or not. You need a CPU with an insane clock speed per core because 95% of the game still runs on a fucking single core and even if you have that you're still going to experience low FPS
Use auto-detect on the video settings then just adjust render distance, motion blurs and depth of field, guaranteed you’ll get a consistent FPS, tho you should also limit your assets in a mission, dropping 500+ GBUs at the same time will clearly screw up your PC

And Global Mobilization
Just started playing, I love the single player. I'm not sure if I'll ever go into pvp but I'm so excited about the potential single player and coop scenarios! I only bought the base game at full price but, now I'm checking every 5 mins for contact to be on sale lol
Glad to see you enjoy :D
3 years later and back sharing the video with some friends getting into arma. Your tutorial is really timeless for this "grandfather" of a game
That's great to hear, appreciate the feedback.
I was about ready to delete the game but now thanks to you, I have a MUCH better understanding of how things are done.
Happy to hear! Enjoy the Sim :)
I did delete it but I just reinstalled it because of his video
Bro your controller settings made the game 10 times better and intuitive, thank you so much!
Great to hear.
Definitely feel more equipped to start playing now. Thanks
No problem!
Wish I had someone who told me.
I didn't include everything as much as I hoped but more then enough if you're starting out :)
I have been playing DayZ intensively lately and I knew that Arma is just what I need to escape from Dayz's paranoia of losing your shit. Anyways, sorry for the novel, just wanted to share my extremely nice last two days. Amazing video, watched every second of it, thank you! Arma is the best shit I played
I enjoy it as well!
DayZ is fun but I feel the same way.
Yoo I feel the same way. I come from console dayz and just recently I bought a pc to play tarkov. I'm not really looking to get back into dayz atm, but I do want that kind of environment back.
Just bought the game. It's quite complicated.
This video has been very helpful.
It's on sale now, £5.99 on Steam.
Extremely helpful! Thank you for the great guide and sharing your key binds!!
This tutorial is a fundamental knowledge base for all new starters. Thank you so much for helping the community !
Thank you for taking the time to aknowledge my work :) I never ask for anything but I appreciate it a lot.
@@randomshittutorials One request though, maybe you can also do a few screenshots of your controls layout, so those who play via GeForce Now for example, could manually change controls to match yours. Unfortunately it is not possible for us to use your Dropbox files, and all keys are "coded" if opening the file via the Notepad.
As a total newb thanks for this. I've watched a few guides, all of which have their good points, but this being split into chapters means I can skip to what I need when I need. I shall be trying out your settings etc. Thanks so much.
Good to know the segments helped!
This guide kickstarted my ARMA experience, Thank you!
No worries!
Very kind words, appreciated and glad I could help! It's only a step-in but hey nw!
Just got this on sale....this video is a god send. Thanks!
Thank thee :)
You'll slowly find why I did what I did when you figure out the game functions xD
But I'm not stopping you.
@@randomshittutorials
Ok, update time:
Bought the game, played with a friend on a few different servers, and did some of the single player scenarios and a few from the Steam workshop. The default controls are so unnatural. It's one of those rare cases where you almost don't have enough keys to play the game since so many of them have secondary functions. I've learned three things so far.
1. You always need to know what stance to be in and when, otherwise you're getting shot or won't have your gun ready in time enough
Cheers
Joel
Sounds chill :)
Hows ur journey man
I just bought this today because it was on sale via Steam. Thanks for this tutorial m8 very very well done
Appreciated :)
i had a dream about arma3 last night, and now im downloading it again. havent played it for so long, but its soo soo good! i totally agree with you, its a one of a kind game!
Spooky. Enjoy :D
honestly i feel like i can feasibly get into this game now. this was all easy to understand and also you're pretty funny.
Wow! Thank you so much for the time you spent on this. It's definitely helped me feel less overwhelmed taking on A3.
Yeah it was in BIG need of something like this.. Even with this tutorial it's a b*tch to navigate.
Thank you so much, what a great video! I just bought the game today and was immediately overwhelmed. After following along in-game in real time with your video I feel plenty confident to start. Thank you also for the settings file and more importantly the loadout file!!
Glad it worked, some people have troubles with the installation :D
thank you so much, I started playing arma a week ago and your keybindings seems a lot better.
I can recommend to play the first campaign the hints are a great help to understand what to do and learn the commands
this was the best tutorial I have ever seen, period
Gracias :)
Thank you. I've been away from gaming for awhile, so reintroducing some of the basics is really helpful and appreciated.
🌹Gracias and you're welcome!
You do not need shadow or clouds to be on ultrahigh. Save some FPS by lowering them. I have disabled water reflections as well, since this is not a swim simulator ;)
This is truly a masterpiece! Beautiful graphics, great gameplay and the realism is incredible. Once you know how to play it properly you will quickly realize that this game is second to none!
(side-eye to the glitches) 😳
28:43 You just answered my dire question ! God Bless you !!!
just bought the game and luckily i came here because i don't want to have to go in and do all the loadouts, thanks heaps!
Did it work out?
Some people have an issue with the files, ESPECIALLY the loadouts.
Let me know :)

Newbie here:
Picked up Arma 3 and Apex to begin with, and felt lost as soon as I started x'D It's was like booting up Elite Dangerous for the first time back when it didn't have a starting zone.
I can confidently say that this video will set you up as if it was made by devs. Top notch buddy!
I have a quesiton about comunities? Which are some of the more educaional/serious and open to noob servers out there? Goofing around is fine, but I'd like to find some friendly goups that know a lot, but are ok with noobish mistakes x'D
Thanks a lot!
I don't know groups myself but you'll find what you're looking for in the official arma 3 discord (see the description)

About to get my PC setup in February. Arma 3 Warhammer 3 and TF2 are going to be my first games!
Thank you for your service.
Thank you, your keyboard setup was great and easy to memorise. It made it easy for me to play
Great to hear!
thanks for the settings! This video was great. Just getting into Arma3 and it's a bit overwhelming but this tutorial helps alot.
Are the settings safe?
Are they a virus?
question, how do i use the downloadable settings?
This is the beginner video I needed! The details are well covered, nice work. Need this after buying the SOG dlc. Cheers 🍺

Salute
Hahaha glad to help 😜👍
omg glad im watching this new to pc. for pc beginners like me needed to restart for downloaded setting to take. thanks dude
Happy to help!
I finally broke away from being a console peasant and got myself a PC, I’ve been wanting to play this game for years.
Thanks for all the info, really appreciate it
Got you. Thanks!
Just got a PC too. We should team up!
Sold!
I played the same games and the NL game that followed it. Stopped gaming about 2008 or so because my nephew had just about graduated and was playing 'magic dragon fart' games instead lol. Just about to hit 60 yrs old this month, so I built me a new computer and just waiting on the ram to get here....Living offgrid in the desert near BBNP so using Hughes Net for internet access. No mmpg foir me sadly, but I will do single player. Had to even get a win10 serial for less than 20 legally today, swore I would never buy another windows after 7. Anywho, got ARMA3 on STEAM for under 6 bux and checking it out here on my macbook pro retina from 2015 :D Thanks for reminding me of the GREAT Nova Logic days, running our own servers for the ExtremeOPS clan. But it is worth it from beginning to end
Without this, the game had been sitting on my library for years
bro the end message hits so hard and sad
Hey, thank you for making such a great tutorial. I just got the game after the summer sale on steam and after watching this video I actually can understand the game. although I am having an issue with the arsenal and loadouts. When I paste in the files I get the controls you configured but not the loadouts. I spent a bit myself making a few but I just wanted to ask if you had any ideas for a fix.
if you are trying to do it with an alternive profile you have to go to that file insted of the main file and just load the game a couple of times and it worked. (some user's comment)
13:42
If the loadouds don't work for you I'm sorry. Arma likes to play tricks on different people. It also matters what profiles you've made.
Many people had this issue and managed to fix it. I recommend you go INTO the files and just copy paste the text from there (loadout info for example) into your own files instead, that should work.
In any way, hope this works for you :)
@@randomshittutorials that helped thank you very much.
Perfect structure and execution my friend!
❤️
I believe a more efficient movement config than WASD is to use Sec. Mouse for moving forward. This is because the middle finger of your mouse hand usually has access to only one button (Sec. Mouse), which makes it the best candidate for operating the button that needs to be held down the most (forward); and holding down Sec. Mouse doesn't restrict the freedom of thumb and index finger either. This setup increases the freedom of your keyboard hand because its middle finger doesn't need to be anchored to one key (W) so often, because doing so reduces the freedom of other fingers.
911 What's your emergency?
_"Yeah I got someone here who's going insane, they want to switch forward movement from 'W' to the middle mouse button.."_
What's the adress?
Not middle button. Secondary button (mouse 2). And then you change Back to LAlt, and strafe right to S.
I purchased the Ultimate Edition for $42.18 on sale and it sells as of this date for $100.63 with a 29% discount.

:D thx for updating people.
Did someone actually tried those keyboard settings? What do you think of them? Do in-game hints correctly show changed controls too?
I'd love some other people to back me up here.
I get lots of positive feedback. That's all I can say.
i tried them and they are really good imo
How do you download the keyboard settings. And is there a way to just preview them?
@@dandanny434 you can‘t “download“ settings you just have to copy them as far as I know. Can‘t guarantee tho
Edit: my bad didn‘t watch till the settings part.

Did the tutorial help you out? Or no?
I just found Arma 3. I haven't been very big into FPS shooters on pc since Team fortress classic...but I'm starting to get into them again. I have burned 100 hours on HLL, and just happened to learn about Arma 3 and saw it on steam for sale. I'm literally brand new to this, and just starting my journey. Thank you very much for this, much appreciated.
Hey very much appreciated.
Long but extremely helpful for when you just start or even when you come back. Thanks for this, guy.
Appreciate that my friend.
Great Video BTW, But, The files just revert and im not sure what to do(edit) nevermind it worked, if you are trying to do it with an alternive profile you have to go to that file insted of the main file and just load the game a couple of times and it worked
Also couldn't get the files to work
Great. Amazing that you stated the solution as well!
I'm grateful.

This is best tutorial i have ever seen.
1: The game has a big learning curve
2: Whoever succesfully breaches that curve tells me this is the best game ever.
