    I have just bought a 2019 i3 42Kwh and have just performed a long range test at 10-17C. I started with 100% battery and a predicted range of 158miles on the GOM. I have driven hybrids now for 12 years and I am aware what a light pedal foot has on economy. So off we set on the 84 mile trip with a mix of motorway (60%) A road (40%) . Outbound heading for the coast there's more negative gradients but it will all level up on the return. As this is a max range test I put the car in Eco PRO and turn off the heating/cooling. I get between 10 - 22Kwh/100Km and a light foot also mean that I see quite a bit of regen. When I arrived at my destination I had a GOM range left of ! 130 Miles (84 + 130) = 214 miles.
    I charge to 100% again and then on the return when I arrived home the GOM said 100 miles so a return range of 184 miles. I expect these ranges to drop by switching to Comfort and adding some heating however even if these settings suck 20 miles of range that's still 194 and 168 miles so taking the worst case 168miles that's very close to what BMW expect this car to achieve and by switching to ECO PRO 180 is also possible for most of the year and for most journeys. Remember my home journey was full of positive gradients to reach the destination at 333m.
    So with this I have confidence this car can easily achieve its 160 mile range as quoted under these temps which in the UK is pretty standard. I am well impressed with this car it drives likes its on rails and accelerates like a rocket. :-)

    That is pretty hopeless range. I didn't know it's that bad. But I guess it's ok for city driving.

    Nice video! It is pretty shocking how much of a difference you see between the two speeds, and even the range with 90 km/h (which is _really_ slow!) is not exactly great. Still, the i3 might make for a nice (albeit pricey) city car.

    Useful video thank you. I am starting a new job with a 45 mile each way commute. 15 miles is 30-50 mph single and country lanes, other 30 miles are motorway 70-80mph. Do you think this is capable of doing a full commute there and back with sufficient heating/cooling and no additional charging? I am looking at the Hyundai Ioniq but I really like the interior of the i3

    So given you started 90kmh test at 98% SOC & completed at 16% = 18% unused we can calculate a range of 252 km would you agree?

    It’s interesting you found the car didn’t really warm up properly. My i3 is like a sauna if I set the heating to 24 degrees.

      @@BatteryLife Yep. Saw it. I usually drive in ECO PRO with 20 degrees set in cold Scotland and that’s just about perfect for me.

      I also think there might be something wrong with that vehicle. I feel comfy with 19 or 20 if I don't wear a jacket. Maybe 21 with Eco Pro. 24 in unbearable. And I'm the kind of person who calls everything below 25 degrees "winter". And I do not like winter...
      Really high consumption. I should test one on mine. I recently drove from Nuremburg to Munich with 19.5 average, with 120 on the cruise control.

    Did this I3 have the optional heat pump? Also, did this I3 have the 42Kwh battery?

    Waste of time doing tests at - 6C.... Only a few countries have this typical temperature

    • @BatteryLife

      You cannot drive test only at the perfect temp. Not possible! You are expecting a bit too much there. 🤣

    • @PepperSnek
      @PepperSnek 2 роки тому +4

      The fuck? More than half of Europe has below 0 temps in the winter months, especially in the morning. I'd say it's relevant for people who commute to work in the morning.
