Neurosis A Season In The Sky

  • This is the sixth track from the album The Eye of Every Storm.
    Lyrics:
I had a vision last night, my god was glowing
There was another bridge on fire
And the last wrecks were counted
The sky opened and the blood flowed
A distant cancerous season was upon me
I had a hook in my back and a light to guide me
    My words were useless again
The leftovers were playing with my memories of love
I screamed at my god and he let me go
I drifted silently to the desert and began to pray
I came to a pile of ashes and sifted through it looking for teeth
A snake spoke through me again
But I could not heal their wounds
I'm searching for the old spirit of war
With my rough hands and a sharp knife
I need something to cut into so that my god can see me again
    To be right again
    To see my shadow alone
To get back to the hook a let the light burn in my soul
All I've seen walking through the fire
    The figures in my dreams
Run back on me in a psychic scar
As I ride to the dawn

perhaps not many often speak of the drummer of Neurosis. To me he is an essential part of their sound, really impressive technique

Absolutely. Restrained given the majesty of their music, but intense when it's there.

I guess we all kind of been through this before most of us anyways , hurting someone not being able to repair the irreputable damage... to a relationship, perhaps a marriage, and then all the shit you've got to fight through and climb out of just to find yourself again to be right again. Definitely old Spirit of war will help your journey you can find it inside yourself. Unfortunately some people don't make it to the dawn. It's weird because I'm listening to this album my whole fucking I mean since 2004 I'm never understood it until now, and it's because of me what I'm saying is what I've been through I've been going through... Neurosis has made me a better person this music is not normal music. These men are true practitioners and they do channel whatever is the source of all... it's amazing by far one of my favorite bands ever and THAT'S IF YOU CAN EVEN CALL THEM A BAND IT'S SOMETHING DIFFERENT WHEN IT'S THIS IT'S MORE THAN HONEST IT'S NEXT LEVEL SPIRITUAL IT'S TRANSCENDENT... their evolutions a trip. Thank you NEUROSIS.

One of my fave Neurosis tracks, and probably up there in my own personal top 100 of any track. Classic Neurosis build up and 'heavy metal poetry', then when the intensity kicks in ringing the guitars out open... Gives that real 'inhale - exhale' quality, and the simple melody over the top ringing out once again on a harmonic.
Beautiful music, great lyrics, powerful stuff. Fucking nice work guys, love it so much...

There's something very spiritual between the people who listen to Neurosis. It ties them together through these magnificent lyrics. It's very strange. At least from what i've experienced. Some friends of mine andi have been group obsessing (if that makes any sense) about "The blood that flows through me is not my own" for at least a week. Constantly humming it like nutjobs. Insane band...

I do agree, its the last of the classics, the unbelievably epic run from 96's 'Through Silver in Blood'' to this album, that's 5 classics, 5, unreal.

Harry Smith So is good because they have ambient influences? Their 90's albums was the principal influence of so many sludge bands.... The opinion of a hipster webpage isn't "widely" considered... it's only another opinion... many of old Neurosis fans hate the new albums and their new style... so it's "widely" hated.... anyways, I like all their albums.
