Just a guess: escaping would‘ve cost summs and a lot of time (running, backport, regenerating hp,..) and it wasn’t sure if he could even escape

so both camps respawn back to back. It's a clear optimizing xp, not first clear speed

So he can be at the 5:00 spawn of grubs or drake with level 5. Otherwise he would be level 4 at the spawn. Its the fastest clear to reach level 5 until 5:00 time
