    Feels like the side u breathe on is stronger while the other side is getting weaker. I’m now practicing every 3rd for better balance of strength on both sides.

    My regular freestyle is all messed up right now. Been breathing to the left my whole life so I’m so imbalanced. I would recommend every 3 on distance sets so you don’t turn out like me.

      Thanks for this advice. My new coach wants me to rotary breathe. I’m a mid and long distance swimmer. However, it feels like rotary breathing is slowing me down. Feels awkward. Granted, I just started working on it. Any advice or tips?

      @@JubeeBijou just keep working on breathing to both sides and make sure you have the same head positioning and timing on both the right and left side. The more you breath to your uncomfortable side, the easier and more balanced you will swim. Just keep putting in the hours and you’ll get better

    My question is, when do you exhale? You exhale the whole time your head is under the water, or only when you are about to inhale?

      Hold your breath at the first stroke, exhale at the second and inhale at the 3rd stoke, I have started to do this recently and it helped controlling my breath

    Thank you so much! I have never tried the 3 like in this video. I'm going to try it. The way I was doing it before, maybe the reason I was always unsuccessful. Again, thank you!❤

      Yep! Same! Perhaps it’s because we are just starting something new and it just feels awkward. Hopefully we just need time and practice.

      Me too, to my left. When I try to the right I sink or water up the nose, something off happens. Now I’m practicing to the right more. I’m also practicing every three.

      @@aquinn6975 good suggestion 👌 ima start trying to breathe to the right but I can only breathe 3 or 4 strokes when going fast. At a long pace I have to breathe every 2 strokes

      I tried to do both sides but I never felt comfortable doing so, so just stuck to breathing on my right on second stroke. I guess I’m going to try doing both sides again but not holding out much hope on doing breathing on my left side because ever since I dislocated my left shoulder whilst in-line skating in the early 2000s. The space between my shoulder and neck has never been the same🇬🇧🇯🇲✌️

    I swim a little over a mile, I find that breathing every 2 helps set a pace for distance swimming, it's not the fastest but it definitely helps set a pace and breathing rhythm, if I swim from long periods and hold my breath every 3 or 4 i end up getting a headache. But that's just my preference not everyone is the same.

    Qeustion about the 2 or 4 strokes. I find that to be the most comfortable, probably because i would breath on my prefer side. But in the long run would one side of my body be more developed (visually and physically) than the other? Ty

    • @smints
      @smints Рік тому

      Not really. Might have some neck tension but thats it. Many olympic swimmers breathe to one side and they look perfectly proportionate, likely due to other work outs in the gym other than swimming

    • @Sentient_Blob
      @Sentient_Blob Рік тому +1

      You usually won’t get visually imbalanced, but you can get more injuries from putting more weight on one shoulder. Micheal Phelps would alternate what side he would do a 2 breath pattern while practicing, even though he only breathed to one side in races, so you could try that if you like the rhythm of 2-4 breaths

  • @visionearthcare
    @visionearthcare Місяць тому

    Tried 5 stroke breathing to improve lung capacity and balance. But cant do more than 100m with this style. Easier is 3 stroke breathing for 200m sets. At 2k Continuous swimming its very random, I will breath 3stroke but on occasion do 2 stroke to oxygenate better.

    • @myswimpro
      @myswimpro  Місяць тому

      That makes sense! You should be trying to get more oxygen to your body for longer reps. Breathing less makes you go faster but is only effective for a short period of time due to lactic acid.

  • @william2glaser227

    Depends on the race and your conditioning, in a 100 your gonna push that breathing pattern up to 6 strokes per breath while on a 1500 a gallop with that 2 strokes per breath is way faster, now sure I’ve fucked arround and done a 3 stroke per breath 1500 and went a time faster than my short course, but that was peak conditioning and I definitely couldn’t do that right now at teh start of a season

    • @myswimpro
      @myswimpro  Рік тому

      If you're trying to increase your speed, you want to breathe as little as possible to prevent drag! Otherwise, it's ok to breathe to the same side if that's more comfortable for you!
