Kobe was an awesome scorer, but Bird was an incredible player and just a level above. Bird was amazing at scoring, passing, rebounding, teamD, clutch, killer instinct, hustle, toughness, leadership, and on and on. Plus he was arguably the greatest teammate ever. A case can easily be made for prime Bird as the greatest all around force in NBA history.
If I were starting a franchise, I want Bird as my first pick. Kobe is an all time great who gave other teams nightmares, but I love Larry’s impact for his team and how he makes everyone better
Bird is far better sorry. Better shooter, rebounder, passer, more clutch and honestly scoring is a slight edge to Kobe but he played in an easier era too for much of his career. Kobe is a better 1v1 defender but that's about it. Give me Bird every day all day.
if Bird didn't hurt his back shoveling concrete in 85, and Len Bias didn't die of a cocaine overdose, it could be Bird not Jordan that we would be talking about as the greatest ever
I don't understand how the video guy put Kobe ahead of Larry in the playoff round? Is it because of the ppg? That's the only thing he beat Larry in. Larry won the 3pt contest 3 yrs in a row. Kobe was a phenomenal player. Took the game to the next level. But come on, there's some areas where Bird was better than Kobe.
50/40/90? Is the mid-range Bird? I mean, probably. Ask anyone who tried to guard him about the mid-range. No disrespect, I love Kobe as well, but they're different, each unstoppable, but in different ways. Kobe was more athletic, coupled with supreme skill, and played to those strengths, Larry was huge and could create space against smaller quicker players, and used his size and straight skill to get it done. One thing that sets the great shooters apart, look at the free throws. Steph, Bird, Reggie Miller, Mark Price, all of these guys and more were right at 90% for their careers. Did you know Price was a career 40% from three, and 90% from the line? That's amazing. Oh, and lastly, they were both here to win (Kobe and Bird), and neither would accept sub-par effort from their teammates. PERIOD! If you're on defense up by one with seconds left to play, and either Kobe or Bird is going to get the last touch, that's a bad feeling. GOOD LUCK!
It is cool to have Kobe as your goat - that is why it is fun to talk about this!! I have Bird over Kobe and if you look back at the midrange it is clear Bird is better = Bird shot a higher majority of his shots from midrange and was significantly higher in %. As far as ring counts go, Bird never played with a player as dominant as Shaq and to be honest Shaq was the best player on LA for 3 of Kobe's rings. Also look at the plus and minus when both players were absent and it is clear Bird was missed much more than Kobe. In a nut shell = Bird is a better shooter than Kobe from 3, from the midrange and the FT = everywhere on the court and Bird is a far better rebounder and a better passer. Bird would never had had a beef with Shaq and would have blended his talent WITH Shaq for how many more rings?? Bird was also shortchanged in the clutch department. There is NO WAY Kobe was more clutch than Bird. IF Kobe had more total game winners it is only because he had way more chances and way MORE misses that we are not talking about. Defense goes to Kobe but Bird is better in almost every other category and as far as scoring, Bird was more concerned about his teammates, Kobe just took more shots. I am not slamming Kobe, I feel Bird was better. I would take Bird as my draft choice and just make sure he does not shovel concrete and ruin his back. For those who want to slam Bird on defense, a young Bird was a good defender. Here is a link to the November 9th 1981 issue of SI showing Bird blocking Kareem's skyhook.vault.si.com/vault/1981/11/09/70982#&gid=ci0258c132a001278a&pid=70982---102---image
I think Kobe is the better offensive player, but I think Bird is the better overall player. That said I would rather start my team with Bird, primarily because of his passing and his ability to make the other 4 players on the court better. Both are in the top 10 of all time though. Both great!
Bird every day all day. Love Kobe but you can't use stats for Bird because Bird didn't care about them. He didn't go back in a game when he was one steal away from a quad double because the Celtics were so far ahead " It wasn't fun anymore". Bird was three time MVP because he controlled the game and won, the only stat he cared about. #Birdgang Just look at the numbers again. Kobe can't touch Bird in midrange. They didn't keep the stats for game winners back when Bird was playing. However you can't really call it a game winner when you are 10 points up.If you watch UA-cam you are seeing close games because they are exciting to watch but most of Boston's weren't close. They had some great rivals but most nights you knew the outcome, you were going for the chance to see something amazing.
idk, some of these stats are being compared pretty simplistically and some look iffy to me... He gave efficiency to kobe but bird had a 5 year stretch where are basically averaged 50/40/90 give or take... My guess is that he didn't take into account the 3-point attempts out of those "19 taken shots". Also kobe more clutch?? Yeah, no... I absolutely love and deeply respect both players though... Their mind-set was just different.
Kobe more clutch than Bird is questionable. But the video all around was fair. My opinion, you could take either one of these players in their prime and the outcome would be champion! Love to them both.
Also, let's not forget Kobe was only the best player on 2 of his championships and even then he struggled. One could argue Pau played better in one of those. Bird was absolutely the best player on his team for all of his finals. Sure, Bird had better teammates BUT he was going up against FAR better competition.
I think Bird's mid-range is as near perfect as it gets. Kobe is incredible (I'll take him over Jordan, any day), he's tied with Magic as my second favourite (hate to say it but Kobe's probably got the edge... I don't know, Magic is the bomb... I give up). P.E.R. is basically, in one minute of play, the average amount of actual, real, constructive productivity the player achieves (How much did you get done while you were out there?); it's *very* important. In summary, I'll take Bird over the amazing Kobe, one dominant reason is his effect on the greater good of the team; Celtics beat Jordan's Bulls by coalescing the team into a break-you-down-beat-you-up, tight machine team.
This comparison is truly unfair because the narrator isn't taking in account that Bird played 1/3 less seasons than Koby did! The narrator should have picked the best 11 straight seasons and compared it to Bird's 11 season! Bird was better !
In the "clutch" section at the end the guy said "Bird only had 4 game winning shots". I can think of at least 9 just from all the Bird clips and videos circulating online for example: Portland (Double team fadeaway from left corner behind the backboard) ....Phoenix (1 footed 3 pointer runner ("told you so")....Detroit (in Hartford runner layup over Kent Benson)...Washington (running 2 pointer from 3 point line), Seattle (over Xavier McDaniel ("I'm going to get the ball here and shoot it in your face")....Philly (in Hartford with "Barkley all over him")...Detroit ("double fake jumper from the right corner")...Portland (47 point "left hand" game......Chicago (fall away middy over Pippen & Jordan double team). And there are several more out there somewhere. So thats more than Kobe's 6 and in about 8 less years of playing time. So LB for the win then! :-)
I hope u read this cause u ignored me last time, lol. I don't wanna be to harsh on kb but I really don't think any real bb historian would put kb ahead, even with Larry being underated because of obvious sterotypes. Larry fg% was 50% an kb was 44%, kb 3pt% was 32% while larrys was 38% even though larry's 1st coach discouraged 3s an he hardly practiced them, he still shot 40% or more all except 1 time his last 7 years. Larry shot 89% from the free throw line an kb shot84% for his career. Kobe avg 5.2 rebounds where Bird avg 10. Larry avg 6.3 assist while Kobe avg 4.7. Kobe avg 1.4 steals while Bird avg 1.7. Kobe avg .5 blocks where Bird avg.8. They both avg about 25, but had 30 ppg seasons as well. Don't forget that Bird went from 29.9ppg to 19.3 ppg after the severe back injury. As u can see I'm a little biased 2. As always the stats r from basketball reference.com, an keep up the good work.
@@HenDawgTV Lol, it's all good. Truth be told, I didn't truly appreciate Kobe's greatness until after he was gone. I always had a bias against him, I was more pro Shaq I guess, an there was other reasons. You had a great one in Kobe to be proud of.
Wait a minute you're going to tell me Colby's a better clutch player than Larry Bird as they said the greatest clutch player there was what if anything it's a tie
Kobe and Bird are both in my personal all time top ten. I'm always confused, though, by some of these videos that focus on weird categories like "Driving to the rim." I have Larry ahead of Kobe because - Larry had higher career averages in: FG%, 2P%, 3P%, FT%, Effective Field Goal%, Offensive & Defensive & Total Rebounds, Assists, Steals, Blocks, PER, TS%, Offensive & Defensive & Total Win Shares, Offensive & Defensive & Total Plus Minus, Win% and Value Over Replacement. Kobe had higher career averages in: Usage% and Points (less than 1 point per game.) To me, Kobe was a better 1 on 1 defender and Larry was a better team defender. Kobe did get a little more basketball playing longevity out of his body than Larry (a couple years). Larry announced his retirement the year he turned 36 and didn't play that season. Kobe announced his retirement the year he turned 37 but played that season. I think it gets lost in the shuffle sometimes that the lion's share of Kobe's longevity in the NBA in particular was on the front end because he was drafted straight out of high school. That was an opportunity not really available to guys like Larry and Magic. The NBA had rules explicitly forbidding drafting players out of high school until it got forced to try by a court case. It tried with 2 players back in the 70's but both underperformed so the NBA didn't try again until the mid-90's, just in time for guys like Kevin Garnett and Kobe. Can you imagine how great it would have been to have had upwards of 5 more years of a young and healthy Larry Bird in the NBA? Both were elite players and all time greats but I do think Larry edges Kobe.
Put it this way Shaq went to the Olympics no I don't know maybe somebody else on their team that Kobe played with but I didn't see McHale or Parish go to the Olympics
Midrange, as reported in the video you are watching... Larry took 60% of his shots there and made 50% of those. Kobe took 51% of his shots there and made 44% of those. That clearly goes to Larry. How can you even hesitate?
What video should I react to next?! 🤔
To say anyone was more clutch than Bird is ridiculous.
And THAT'S when I said the video creator was full of shit lol
I'm a long time Laker fan and I love Kobe but Bird is better. 🏀
I've got both in my top 10, but Bird is #3 on the list and Kobe is #8.
Kobe was my favorite growing up but Bird is better lol
Kobe was an awesome scorer, but Bird was an incredible player and just a level above. bird is the only player in NBA history in the top 50 of points, rebounds and assists.. shot almost 90 % from ft for his career.
🔥
I’d give bird the mid range is better primarily because they knew he was shooting from there and couldn’t stop it. Overall it’s jordan.
It's hard when they're comparing my two favorite players ever 😂
I swear lol
Larry was a post up player...and his shot was weird...he would bring the ball behind his head ..pretty much unblockable
I'd take Bird in his prime over anyone - as a teammate

Not enough research since the guy said bird only had 4 last second shots to win a game. Look it up
Yeah, his entire presentation seemed a bit biased.
