    Not to take anyone away from getting this product as of now, but it seems that there are still areas that can be refined, like using hydraulic pressure to accurately measure the slave cylinder actuation instead of relying on switches and time delays (because setting distances would tweak it out of whack when the clutch is getting worn out but the feel, and therefore pressure on the clutch would be fairly constant) and you can step or taper off the pressure through PWM duty cycle or linear voltage on the hydraulic valve for even more!
    Hope that input would help to make a better product, or better yet have anyone who knows someone who can do PIC or AVR programming and make some driver circuits for the hydraulic valve and translate the pressure sensor to do the same and actually talk to the ECU through I2C or CAN when possible (say, for traction control) so you would not put any more RF signals out in the air and make it all tucked away...and it will be open sourced so no big company could ever take it away from anyone

    • @thebangshiftbilly1653
      @thebangshiftbilly1653 2 роки тому +2

      Great input. From what we have seen a hydraulic clutch in relation to wear and pedal position does not change as the disc wears, the great part about them actually. The other pieces are great ideas worth exploring, thanks!

    • @ruikazane5123
      @ruikazane5123 2 роки тому +1

      @@thebangshiftbilly1653 That's the good part. The slave cylinder however, just as with hydraulic brake calipers, would move outward as the pads wear and get thin. That can change the distances because of the pressure plate and the "lever ratio" of the pressure plate fingers would also be affecting actual clutch release and bite distances as the clutch discs wear down. Might be around 1/16ths of an inch or one millimeter and change or even less and can be disregarded but hey...nothing is perfect and striving to get there is way better! That very tiny bit of distance might make a difference in fine tuning...hope you'd experiment with a pressure-based system and see if it's worth it. Good luck!

    I have heard rumblings about this for a while now, and it is kind of brilliant and simple. I think the one factor keeping me away is the 'subscription' mentality of the app. That is simply a bridge too far for me, I do not want to pay a subscription for years to have a clutch that works. That one small piece of marketing ultimately keeps me out. Charge a one time fee, make it part of the product price. It's like paying Holley or AEM or anyone for updates or revisions or bug fixes.

    • @sparkimoto
      @sparkimoto 2 роки тому

      I couldn't agree more! This one particular marketing practice annoys me more than anything. The last thing I want or need is an addition to my monthly expenses. I prefer to just buy a product and be done with it. I'd rather just pay a higher price ONCE, than to buy a product that needs constant upgrading, like most everything sold today. I don't want to be signed up for some free trial membership for one month that charges my account monthly forever, until I cancel either! I refuse any and all of such offers! I wish this practice would be outlawed!

    With running that through a standalone ecu I wonder if you could set that up like a auto trans brake. Stage, engage the clutch, press steering wheel button, release clutch pedal with button pressed and launch with release of the button. In effect work like a delay box for Trans brake. With some programming in the ecu it would be sending a signal to the clutch switch the clutch pedal was released.
    I may be over complicating things with the thought process

      Wow, I was just thinking outloud. Never thought it would possibly make a difference. I was waiting to get yelled at by so many people and it didn't happen. That's why I love this sport. It is a really fun community to be a part of. Great invention and believe me I admire the work and time involved in bringing a dream,an idea into reality.

    I have my magnus delay valve wired up to my infinity, does the same thing as bangshift billy but thats a good solution for people without aftermarket ecu

    • @MrSvnwolves
      @MrSvnwolves 2 роки тому

      Not the same deal, The Bangshift Billy quickly goes to your engagement setpoint, holds for as long as you need then fully engages. Your magnus delay looks to be a line-lock with a route thru a manual valve to slow down the fluid. His test mule has a Holley Dominator in it. He wouldn't have spent all the money to RnD if something close to this was on the market. I am not sure if he added software but he talked about allowing 2nd and 3rd to have some slip. Not the best video but he spent a ton into the car to not roast slicks it would spin 0-30/40 feet out of the hole 10 ish on second and 5 feet on 3rd. Map and timing turned way down. ua-cam.com/video/nrxE-Gq7WRw/v-deo.html

    I'm extremely curious what the difference in performance between Bangshift Billy's vs The Mansbrake. Same principal. I don't think the Mansbrake has an app to control, record, and save transmission/ clutch tuning. Thank you for bringing this to are attention Brent. J swap Jason.

    • @Sharkey_t
      @Sharkey_t 2 роки тому +4

      looking at the mansbrake, its designed to hold the clutch, you take your foot off the clutch pedal and when you want to go you go you get go of the button, like an automatic car with a transbrake. this is not legal for most stickshift classes. from that point on its similar, it will slip the clutch out for a given time before the release bearing is allowed to fully extend. the big difference i see is the mansbrake (aside from leaving on a button) has far more potential error in adjusting, your using a manual flow control valve and a timed relay you adjust with a screwdriver, your not going to get precise adjustments here and fine tuning is gonna be tough.
      there is also one other big advantage the technology and app control brings you, and thats making a last minute change. say you get lane swapped at last minute, or you can see the track isnt as good as you initially thought, a quick couple taps on your phone while your in the car and you can accurately change your launch strategy.

      It seems like there are a couple big differences. Both look like killer products. These are my observations:
      It seems like the adjustments are more precise with billy. He was entering delays down to the millisecond. The mansbrake has a manual dial that is less precise.
      Being able to adjust your tune from your driver's seat with the Billy has to be incredible. Think of how often you sit in the staging lanes waiting for a cleanup and the track conditions change dramatically. With our mechanically adjustable clutch that's a serious PITA.
      Being able to use a button with the mansbrake would be pretty cool. Might get more accuracy out of that.
      The consistency of the billy seems to be better. The launch strategy is based on exact numbers. The mansbrake wants you to load the clutch based on feel each pass. That might be fine, but the billy seems to be way more controlled and precise overall.

      Ultimately I'd like to try both and see what performed better for my application. I would love to try both on my Acura TL racecar I'm building, especially since I have already purchased in hand my FT600. Nothing like apples to apples. Both I'm sure have there advantages and disadvantages. Also curious which would keep the clutch's longevity. From an on the fly standpoint the Bang Shift has that advantage it seems. Both took alot of R and D.

      @@unknownbikes5178 Clearly this device is still not fully developed as a complete system and controller.
      The idea to have a electronically controlled hydraulic clutch is good and compared with the mechanical based system, components used in Top Fuel, along with the storage of various settings. If there are many setting that cam be stored then during the 'test n tune' and qualification runs, then some of the finer adjustments and differences of the track sides, conditions, etc. can be stored.
      However, there are several drawbacks
      A. phone application based - better with ECU, which most are using.
      B.'Trial and Error' type of initial setup - needs further development to use sensors for precision, automated detection, monitoring, modifications as other ECU functions.
      C. small monthly fees for updates, etc.
      @PFI, Speed;
      The owner and developer at FuelTech Anderson Dick will have a much more complete and comprehensive solution, than this.
      Clearly this development is an early level and incomplete, though helpful for 'trial and error' type individuals.
      Before i would consider purchasing their i would contact Anderson Dick, FuelTech, HalTech, Holly and others to determine what they have and in development, which will be complete.
      Also, if my vehicle is using a comprehensive ECU like a FT-550, 600 or similar with HalTech, etc. i do not want another controller.
      That is one of the issues with the FAST system - having multiple controllers.
      Actually my background is within electronics design, development engineering with extensive knowledge of mechanics, mechanical, though Anderson Dick has much more of this combination experience and expertise than me.
      The people on these channels, those involved in building, racing these type of vehicles are not engineers, not highly developed mechanical technician, but as Brent, some have developed their expertise.
      Thus, many may be excited about such a product, idea, and such, but not quite have the information, knowledge, expertise to properly assess, evaluate, discern, differentiate, analyze, thus determine and conclude with a fuller view, perspective and perception.
      For some it some and would be useful, helpful, beneficial and worthwhile to purchase this product in it current stage, if it results in monetary benefits which effectively pays for the costs, while others develop their more complete solutions, systems, controls.
      My view is to first contact these other companies with their more ECU solutions to determine if and what they may have or in development.
      Also, perhaps the mechanical solutions which Top Fuel use may be available or be modified to work too.
      Some of the NPK and other higher level professional drag racing teams may have solutions they have in use already too, including with companies like FuelTech, HalTech, etc.
      All The Best and Much Success in Your Quest, Health, Happiness and Well Being. 😊
      Sincerely ☺

      @@newtonfirefly3584 100% agree I've been dealing with Greg at Fueltech. Fortunately for me the build will probably be done in about a year. I'm doing my built engine and valve train now. I already have the FT600 since eventually it will be sequential AWD so I went with the big dog to have all my inputs and outputs. Hopefully Fueltech is working on there solution, I have time. I'm just a hot rodder putting to much money into a gen 3 Acura TL but I have 5. And many classics 65 fastback, 67 Chevelle, 68 C10, and 75 Camero. All sentimental so they won't be race cars. And way to many Aprilia Street bikes. I appreciate you and your advice. Live blessed!!! J swap Jason.
