Well, maddie, I can imagine how difficult it must have been for you to take a leap of faith and move to Germany, and then having to learn the language, etc. That isn't easy, but also, then buying a house and renovating it completely is an amazing achievement!!, and you should be proud of that👍 so thank you for sharing your journey with us & happy New Year to you 🎉🥂
I moved from California to the German-speaking part of Switzerland and also had to start from scratch... learn German, make friends, find a decent place to live. 37 years later I am still here. If you're ever in Switzerland, please stop by for a chat!
The house you began with is now becoming a beautiful home. You and Ellie have done such a wonderful job. You should both be so proud. I have enjoyed all of your videos and can’t wait to see what’s next. Your sweet Eliza and little duckies are adorable. 🥰
Hi Maddie! I'm european and when I move abroad, to Canada, even if I knew the language, and I thought I knew a lot about the culture, it took time. A lot of time to adjust and find my footing. Immigration is hard in lots of ways we can't even comprehend unless we're there. I don't regret a thing and it changed my whole life for the better and sometimes made it more difficult, it's true. Now I'm happily back in Europe for several reasons (maybe the same ones you moved here!) but the whole experience is going to stay with me my whole life. Sometimes you have to push through difficulties (eg: learning german), sometimes you don't and you just have to take a step back, breathe, and get back to it when having the right mindset. You'll get through it, maybe with learning differently, but the german software will load in your brain sooner or later. Thanks to both of you for this beautiful year of videos, I enjoyed each and everyone of them and I enjoyed you as humans!! (and ducks, and dog...)
Maddie, I love your picture wall its so quaint and cute. You have us as your friends while you gain new ones there. Also, be so proud of what you've accomplished. You made friends with ducks, you climb roofs, ran electrical wire through a house, insulated your home. Put in a new kitchen and fire stov, You overcame the obstacle of your via to stay in Gremany WOW.....thats amazing. We love you ❤
U ladies r such an amazing team, I always think that life is just a little easier when u have someone to embark on these journeys with...u should b very proud of urselves of how much you've accomplished in such a short amount of time, 2 work horses r better than 1. U r so brave to venture out of the states & tackle a whole new language, go easy on urself & it will come. Ur house now looks like a Home 🏡 I'm so excited to see what the New Year brings, but also excited to see what transpires upstairs. Happy New Year, Maddie & Ellie!!! 🥂🎉🎆✨️
Sometimes in life we're so busy looking for the Forrest we forget to enjoy the tree's Relax and enjoy life with what it's offering now . Later will take care of it's self.
Hey Maddie!! I Hope You and Ellie and Eliza and the ducks All had a Great and Merry Christmas 🎄 I first started watching your channel when you were still in your van. I almost didn't follow along when you made the move to Germany but I'm very glad that I did. It's been very entertaining to follow yours and Ellie's journey through renovating the house. Learning a new language takes time so don't be too hard on yourself. Patience is a Virtue. Have yourselves a Safe and Happy New Year 🙏👍🎄🎉🎉🎉🇺🇲🐕🦺🦌🌄
@itsmeelli Happy New Year!!! From North Alabama, U.S.A. It has been fun watching y'all two Beautiful Ladies slaving like construction workers this past year or so. I'm looking forward to seeing even more projects and Great Videos in 2025. Keep Safe and Warm. Don't forget to Celebrate 🎉🎉🎉🎄👍🙏
Maddie I’ve loved your videos and storytelling since your van life days. Your videos are getting more beautiful and meaningful each week. I love how your life has evolved and I love that you and Ellie found each other and are creating such a beautiful home. I love your gallery wall. May the new year bring more challenges that help you continue to grow and create more beauty and magic to share with the world. The world is definitely sweeter with you and Ellie in it. ❤️
This comment made my eye ducts water just ever so slightly 😅🥹, so sweet and lovely to read this. ~ thank you so much. ❤️ wishing you happiness and health in the new year!
Maddie! The fact that your credit song is called Promises of Tomorrow (had to look it up, so beautiful) is just the icing on the cake for this perfect video. Very, very well done.
I'm totally impressed, Maddie. It has been a joy watching you and Ellie conquer every task you've attempted. I'm looking forward to seeing what 2025 brings. Thank you both!
Reflection is a good thing - you can see where you've been, where you are, where you are going. You will get there, Maddie! Every day brings you closer to established goals and to goals yet to be planned for. Happy New Year to everyone there from everyone here (Toronto)!
I'm happy that you are still posting! I check every 4 or so months, binge, then the cycle repeats! I understand the isolation to a degree. Ive been in the military for a while now and having to move every 3 to 4 years always leaves me feeling off-balance and alone...really hit this past Christmas. But, I survive. Anyways, I wish you all the best!
Maddie, you and Elli have done so well in 2024 to make a life for yourselves and Eliza, Otti, Peanut and Draco that I know 2025 will be even brighter! Happy New Year to all of you!
You both should be so proud of all your hard work this last year, thank you for taking us along on your journeyvmay 2025 be filled with happiness for you both and your pet family.🙏🙏
🎉 You are blessed for sure. Can I offer this, I learned it and it helps when I feel challenged. Change the words from your "TO DO" list , into an "I GET TO" list. The meaning is, that I get to do things by choice and not have to do them as a chore. I also GET TO do the things others can't or won't do. STAY BLESSED 🙌 🙏
Have never seen you so somber, Maddie, you and Ellie have done amazing work with your house. Now that all your hard work is complete, you two can really start enjoying it/
Spent a few minutes this evening catching up with you. I'm really impressed by how far you've come with this house! The first time I saw this place in your videos, I thought a renovation would be a nearly impossible task. Wrong! HNY!
The roof turned out so nice, nice to have it finished before the worst winter I can imagine. It will be fun to follow your continued journey, you should be proud you have achieved a lot this year and you Maddie should really stretch yourself and be proud, you dare to step out into the unknown and start over, with support from a person you love. You should be proud, and as you said living in the present is important to seize the day, some days are better others worse, some days you get a lot done others much less. It will be fun to see your creative side blossom even more. Enjoy the day and having each other. Happy New Year
Congratulations, you made that old house really beautiful. I did my roof insulation like you did and seeing you with red eyes and covered with that nasty dust brought back some memories. For the chimney, I am pretty sure that you have to call the chimney sweeper once a year to clean the chimney and check everything is okay. In the past he would come without order but that has changed some years ago, so that you actively have to call him. I am sure Uwe will know that.
Yes! We even had to have the chimney guy here to inspect our work and make sure it was in order. To make it so, we had to put another door in the attic so he has two doors with which to sweep… one of our bigger mistakes, for sure! But it’s done now and we’re so happy! Thank you for the comment. 🫶🏼 and happy new year!
I think the house renovations have kept you from getting out and meeting others and this is totally understandable as you had TONS of work to do. As you start finding more time, you can start reaching out to communities of maybe other expats, going to school to learn German, etc. Give it time Maddie, we are all rooting for you ❤ ✌️
I think you will find the right community. I believe in you. My mother and father moved from California to Sweden when they were 30. My mother has a group of English friends here in Sweden, and is still in touch with them even though she moved back to California at 40. I grew up with family friends that were from England, Australia, and the U.S. and I am closer to them than my aunts and uncles in some ways. My mom also has a collection of Swedish friends as well that she met here and in California when we moved back. Just keep working at it, and the best way to meet people and learn the language is to just get out there and do things. I am not sure what you are doing in the way of learning German, but I highly recommend in person classes. I just moved back to Sweden at 30, 25 years after my family moved to Santa Cruz, California, and even though I am a native Swedish speaker, I am taking a year to go to school and become better at reading and writing and speaking it before working. It's been a much harder transition than I ever imagined, even though I was born here and spent half my childhood here, so I can't imagine how hard it is for you. I remember how hard it was for my mother when she did it. The beginning is always the hardest parts, and part of you will always miss home. My dad has lived here for 35 years and loves it here in Sweden. He was not a native speaker, and has a touch of an accent, but he now has an even thicker accent speaking English, and considers Sweden his one and only home. It gets easier the more you practice and get out there and use it. He also spent a few years learning Swedish, taking classes and becoming fluent. Maybe even trying to find some art classes to be immersed in the language? Anyways, I believe in you and trust in the process. I believe you will find your community soon enough. Also did you hear about the tornado in Scott's Valley, and part of the SC wharf being swept out to sea? The weather is crazy there right now. ☮💙🌊🎄
I’m no roof expert but yours is really pretty! Every task and job you and Ellie tackle turns out beautifully. I really love and look forward to each and every one of your videos. And when you asked your duckies if they were ready for their treat, I thought I heard them say “yes peas”…lol. Happy New Year from Tennessee. ❤️🍾🥂🥳🎉
Moving to another country can be challenging. The hardest adjustments are not necessarily the obvious things. The most important thing is to have a good network of the right people. You might feel that you are making slow progress in adjusting, but I suspect that when you go back to the US you'll realize you've changed more than you think.
So impressed with the work you and Elli have done on your home. I am moving to France in January, so I understand what feels like the language mountain. You will get it and before we both realize it, we will be able to understand and have conversations with others. Happy new years.✨🍾✨
Maddie, you certainly have motivation and the ability to follow through. You have accomplished much. I have enjoyed your videos for a long time now. You have come far. You are beautiful and talented. I hope you had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
I can only stress to you that what you both have accomplished is nothing short of wondrous. I may only be a single person that drops in to see how's things are going in your lives but I really do get a sense of pride watching you both achieve and complete these many sorted job tasks when you set your mind and heart into a life changing experience. Have a Happy New Year Maddie and Ellie and of course Eliza and the ducks LOL! LMAO TRUST THE PROCESS!!!!!! Byeeee!!!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from New Zealand. The new roof looks awesome. Looking forward to seeing what you will achieve in 2025. Enjoy some well deserved time off, which I hope you will both do. Enjoy life.
For God's sake, Just GO WITH THE FLOW and be happy their, It's the best move you ever made don't start ruining it now thinking of moving, SETTLE DOWN BOTH OF YOU, Lifes shorter than you realise Happy New Year
Hi Maddie and Ellie. Missed your videos for a couple weeks. You will find your tribe of German friends and you will get so fluent in German. It will just click. Happy New Year 💕
I'm sitting here teary eyed because your wisdom was so incredibly needed for me as I look forward into 2025. I found you about three years ago, and you were a big part of inspiring me to buy and build out a van. My van is in my driveway, half-built, because of a myriad of reasons, most of which feel overwhelming as a whole. Your thoughts here have reminded me that progress only happens with a many smaller steps. Thank you for continuing to inspire me after all this time. I hope 2025 brings you everything you need (and most of what you want, too!) 💜
@@trinx01 this comment!!! 🥹 building a van is a LOT to take on, with so many steps and such a huge learning process from start to finish. I hope you remember to be gentle with yourself ~ you’re doing something amazing! You. Got. This!! 🫶🏼🥹 thank you for being so lovely and for three years of support, this comment made me feel so humbled and grateful to have the good ones on this corner of the internet. ❤️ I hope 2025 brings you happiness, health, and adventure!!
❤ As one of your internet aunties, here is a stream of my thoughts. I first want to say how proud of you that i am. And Elli. Love you girls a ton! I could sense these feelings for several months. Keep plugging along. There is no rush or timeframe. Can you join a german as a second language group to meet some friends who speak english? Can you get a translator app to help with communicating? I feel that you are in a safer place right now. Some of these feelings come out more during the fall and winter. It is like a let down from the furry of summer...yall did a ton of work! Embrace this time to slow down and go within and hibernate even. We have lost our connection with nature and are go go go all the time. When i started embracing these things, it helped me a ton. It is okay and normal to question. Part of what you are feeling is a bit of a collective energy i think as well. Know that we all will support and love you no matter your decisions. I hope my thoughts helped a little. Hugs to all! ❤
Hooray! the roof is done and looks great--it must feel like a weight off your shoulders. Looks like the attic insulation was messy, but once again, your motto " trust the process" is keeping the renovation on track. Maddie, it was so nice to see one of your drawings of wildflowers hanging in the kitchen gallery. Wishing you and Elli a very healthy and happy New Year~Cheers
What a year it has been! You and Ellie have built a beautiful home. I know it all seems overwhelming and your feelings are valid. I look forward to your next steps. Happy New Year to you all!💜
Maddie you and Elli have come so far and Elli will be with you all the way learning German your love for each other is so strong and growing so strong have a wonderful 2025 I will be following you , granddpa
You both have accomplished SO Much!! Hang in there, it will definitely be worth every minute. Your weather, it's like living here in the PNW. Everything is Beautiful and Green but what it takes to keep it that way.... Is not easy. Your place looks AMAZING and I would be hanging out by the fire for sure on those dreary days 😁
Maddie, you should be proud of what you and Ellie have accomplished. You have created a proper home, crafted with love and vision. You have quite a worldwide community of followers, and I think years from now, you will laugh at your fears about learning the language of the country you've chosen to live in. Have a happy and safe new year. :)
In my nearly 70 years I've found community waxes and wanes. I'm currently trying to understand my role in the world as a recent widower. Please be patient with yourself. Meanwhile, there are translation apps for smart phones. P.S. I really liked the paper templates you made for picture hanging! I should have thought of that.
U 2 R Remarkable... U R Very Talented and Work Soooo Well Together I Love U Guys. I Love Watching U 2 sometimes im laughing sometimes im crying but i have loved this journey n adventure sooo much n Maddie im extremely happy for U . Hugs n Love Always From Your Friend In Michigan Tam p.s Happy New Year 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
You're not doing it wrong. Unless the attic is living space or you have water lines up there (I can't imagine why), you insulate the floor of the attic (the ceiling of your house.)
We followed the roofers instructions! All of our materials work together and needed to be installed this way! Also, we actually are taking the ceiling down in at least one of the upper bedrooms and putting a new wall in the attic, but the roofers didn’t actually know that! 😉
Your roof looks AMAZING! I wish it was red though; please re-do it at your earliest convenience! 😜 It’s great to see some Maddie’s hanging on your walls! Much overdue!! I can only imagine that your lack of German language skills has left you feeling isolated. Hang in there; it will take time but I think this is where you belong! Just look how much you’ve accomplished on your home in 9 months! Now, think how far your language skills have come in 9 months! Last night I was scrolling through YT and your Van life Evening Routine (episode9) came up. I think this is when I started following you. I was struck by how much has changed since then. Another 3 years and you’ll be fluent in German, be a world-renowned artist, and you and Elli will have developed a duck translation app! Quack Quack!

Thank you so much, Kara. Wishing you health and wellbeing in the New Year as well. 🫶🏼
Thank you Kara, back to you ❤
Moving to another country can be challenging. The hardest adjustments are not necessarily the obvious things. The most important thing is to have a good network of the right people. You might feel that you are making slow progress in adjusting, but I suspect that when you go back to the US you'll realize you've changed more than you think.
Beautiful jobs! The roof, your art wall, the now-functioning fireplace, everything looks amazing! Maddie and Elli, you are my inspiration! Happy 2025!
Thank you so much! We really appreciate your kind words, you're too sweet! 🥰 happy new year!

Thanks so much! I hope so! ❤️ happy new year 🫶🏼
Really enjoyed the voice over and stream of thoughts w this video❤️❤️🥰
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! ❤️ I hope to move more in this direction in the future, so this feedback makes me incredibly happy!!
You. Got. This!! 🫶🏼🥹
thank you for being so lovely and for three years of support, this comment made me feel so humbled and grateful to have the good ones on this corner of the internet. ❤️ I hope 2025 brings you happiness, health, and adventure!!
Happy Holidays, Maddie! ✨🤍✨

Happy New Year both. ❤
Happy new year!!🎊
Happy new year 🫶🏼🎆
❤ As one of your internet aunties, here is a stream of my thoughts. ❤
Thank you for this thoughtful message, it means a lot, internet Auntie! 🥹🫶🏼
❤Beautiful video. Happy for both of you, you keep doing an amazing job. Happy, healthy new year

Cheers to that! 🥂✨ Happy and healthy new Year!
Maddie and Elli Happy New Year, I wish you best in this year ❤.
Happy New Year!!
Hooray! the roof is done and looks great--it must feel like a weight off your shoulders.
It’s a huge relief to have it finished! ❤️ thank you so much!
What a year it has been! You and Ellie have built a beautiful home. I know it all seems overwhelming and your feelings are valid. I look forward to your next steps. Happy New Year to you all!💜

Loved this video ❤
Thank you so much! 😊❤️
It really does feel like living in the PNW sometimes! If only it was a LITTLE bit warmer 😅
@@Maddie.taylor 😂🤣⛄☔
Awesome ...
Thank you for your kind words and condolences to you 💐

Happy New Year to you too! 🎉❤️
Happy New Year Maddie
Here's to Oupa! Ellies friend.
Is there a school for adults somewhere not too far away? Maybe taking a class in person could help you create a community?
There is! Definitely looking into which class I want to take in the New Year
Glad you got your roof done! Where were the "Bloops"? 😅
No bloops this week, but they are definitely not gone for good! 😌
Are there any ex-pat community groups in Northern Germany you could connect with?
There are some and we’ve been trying to connect more, nothing yet but hopefully soon!
❤

Bonjour les filles où pouvons-nous le catalogue des œuvres de maddie joyeuses fêtes de fin d'années
Thank you for the kind words! I love your vision! 😂
