  • The Lascar Volcano is located in Northern Chile, very close to, and between Salar de Atacama and the borders with Bolivia and Argentina. Lascar is active volcano, with eruptions in 1993 and between 2006-2011.
    The best part of the climb are the stunning views in all directions, and the crater itself, with its signs of activity.
    The altitude of the summit is 5,592 m/18.346 ft. It is relatively easy to climb Lascar (or better said - to walk to the summit), because the trail head is at 4,900m and the total elevation gain is only 700m. Still some prior adaptation to high altitude is needed. The climb can be done in about 3.5 hours, and the descent - in 1.5 hours. Lascar has several craters, and the summit is above the main crater rim (30 minurtes walk).
    There are many volcanoes in the surrounding areas. In the Laguna Lejía shot (1:01) the following volcanoes can be seen (in order they appear): Acamarachi/Pili 6,046 m/19,836 ft (1:01), Aguas Calientes 5,924 m/19,436 ft (1:09), Lascar 5,592 m/18,346 ft (1:18).
    Recorded November 2013 in HD with Panasonic TM900.

    Magnificent desolation, unworldly almost! Like scenes from another planet. I so enjoy your work. It’s not “just the camera” It’s your “eye” that’s special.

      OK, that's really flattering :) Thanks Drew!
      But the place is really unworldly, with only a handful of people throughout the day, and the vast panorama and great visibility (it is Atacama, after all). One of the peaks (at 3:21, rightmost) is 250 km away, straight line !

    2:04 “Los penitentes,” the penitents are named locally these peculiar ice formations resembling hands praying to sky. Very appropriate though looking at the sacrifice expended in the climbing. Breathtaking views, literally!

      +Chrystian Pereira I went to Torres del Paine in December 2006, and I had video from there, but it was in Standard definition, very low quality, several years ago I removed all my SD videos from YT. It is an amazingly beautiful park, hope to get there to do the W once again and shoot it in 4K.
      Thanks for watching the channel, best regards :)

    Hi, great video! Can this be done in one day and without a guide? My friend and I are in good shape, done high altitude before and have 4WD. Thanks!!

    • @milosh9k
      @milosh9k  8 років тому

      +Christopher Dougherty Yes, this is done in one day, and you can do it on your own as long as you can find the road, the trail head and you can figure out the trail (none of these is clear). Driving from San Pedro de Atacama to the trailhead is about 2 hours or less. The climb itself is 4 hours and you start the climb from 4,900m. You should be acclimatized already in San Pedro and the trips in the area.

    it's gorgeous, thanks for posting. Question, when you do a panorama, is the camera on a tripod? I'm about to get my sony cam, we spoke about it, and need to get the right tripod. Also.... in the balloon in Bagan, did they allow the tripod? Chile is on my list too. Thanks a lot!

    • @milosh9k
      @milosh9k  8 років тому

      +pablofre These shots were done hand held, I use tripod mostly on roadside locations

      wow! great control, that opening panorama is very steady

    Why has this been unlisted?

    • @milosh9k
      @milosh9k  3 роки тому

      because it looks like almost no one is interested in it. And it is also in HD quality, I gradually unlist older videos that are not 4K, if I had it in 4K I would keep it no matter how many views it has, because the place is unquestionably amazing.
