A common theme in this show is having characters get inches away from their goal only to end up getting taken out or unhappy. Erwin is stopped inches away from the finish line. Historia just wanted to live for herself with Ymir. But now the girl who loved her the most is gone, she's pregnant in some grand scheme, and she looks more unhappy than ever. The girl who wants to live for herself is being forced into another role. This is less of a dub vs sub thing, and more of a Japan language difference. But it seems like Eren is simply yelling and getting aggressive with Hange. However, despite his actions, he's actually using really respectful honorifics. He calls Hange, "Hange-San" in the sub which shows he still respects their position of power, and he's speaking in a more formal way people in Japan usually use to address their superiors. Granted, he probably wouldn't have done it, but the threat was still very much there.
That was Mike's ODM gear that Zeke took from him in season 2, which left Mike vulnerable and got him eaten. On another note, Historia is really sad not because she's with some random dude (she chose him after all and knows him), but because she had to bear so many children immediately just for them to slaughter and devour each other, being incapable to live a full life because they can only live 13 years more whenever they eat the beast titan host amongst each other - to be raised like livestock as Eren puts it. It's so heartbreaking that our dear Historia and her children have to be sacrificed for the plan to work. 😭😭

Not only is laughing justifiable but Eren also showed real pain directly after he laughed when he heard of Sasha's death. Its not like he burst out into hysterical laughter. Levi Squad is angry with Eren, thats understandable but Connie is presenting it like Eren enjoyed what he did. Idk if its just me, but Eren hasn't shown any semblance of pleasure or happiness all season and it seems that he is simply acting out of need, at least in his mind.
Another minor thing to add to this, during the end of season 2 when Eren was having an absolute meltdown he started laughing hysterically. I think its just his default reaction when he breaks.
8:07 In case no ones mentioned it, Zeke here mentions that he procured this ODM gear himself, We actually saw Zeke take this gear off of someone, back in Season 2 Episode 1 when he killed Miche (the smeller guy) and stole his gear. The ODM gear he's presenting here is Miche's.
I hate how they critique him for laughing, it obviously was a mental breakdown laugh, he wasn't laughing at her dying. He might have been laughing ironically at her final words because it was soooo like her.
But they don't know that though. They don't know the inside of Eren's head like the audiance does minus Armin (and Mikasa to an extent). There frustration is understandable.

I love your reactions, but also sincerely appreciate you mentioning how laughing in intense situations is often a coping mechanism. I have in the past been accused of being insensitive for making jokes and laughing during very serious and devastatingly traumatic events, but it's only because I apparently have a hard time dealing with overly intense situations sometimes, and my only out is to fall back on humor to cope.
I've heard some great analogy for that so these words are not mine but : "Stress or trauma do that thing. It's like your brain has dropped the emotion's catalogue and is doing what it can to figure something out. You're lucky it went for laughing and not screaming and pooping on the table."
I think eren laughed at sasha’s death because he found it funny that of all last words Sasha could’ve said her last words were “meat” and then has the flashback of when she stole meat from the officers mess, followed by him laughing. As soon as Jean points out she would’ve of died if he hadn’t called for them he goes from laugher to a look of pure anger and it seemed like anger at himself because he knew it was true. So in my interpretation I like to to think he laughed because even though she was dying she was still thinking of food, classic Sasha
Hey guys. With FMA:B you can't use the first episode for the comparison. That's a "filler" episode that was invented for the remake as a treat for the old fans. Every character gets introduced starting at episode 2 and all the story plots start there. My proposition is: 1. Death Note episdoe 1 (maybe 1-2) 2. FMA: Episode 2 3. Demon Slayer episodes 1 and 2. This combination would be a fair introduction to the stories and it would give you a clear look into the potential that all this shows have. Ps. I'm only telling you to watch one episode of FMA with 2 episodes of the other shows because I know that if you'll watch FMA:B episode 2 you're going to pick that show in a heart's beat. ;)
Small note, the original Japanese dialogue with niccolo is "this is the wine you want, right?" He's not supposed to be the one recommending it, rather he is assuming that's the wine greiz will ask for.
It's really weird they changed it in the dub, it's a complete different meaning and changes Niccolo's character, he was trying to figure out what was happening with the wine, and it seems like he's in it.
Fellow psych major here. The laugh response here at first seemed a bit peculiar, but i thought about it a bit, and i think i would compare it to laughter when one is being tickled. Its legitimately a panic response. Your body has no clue how to react to the sensation, and that panic forces a laugh. As far as coping mechanisms go, there are far less desirable reactions than laughter.
I'm aware of the entire plot...I'm purely watching you guys react because I love y'all and your reactions just are the best and I am waiting for when certain moments come up ❤️❤️
Mikasa is incredibly naive when she comments that the problem is that people don't understand them, the problem isn't that they don't it is that they do. Because, what the world does understand is that the last time the Eldians were unleashed on the world they terrorized the world for two thousand years. No sane country would ever want to risk that again.
I know laughing is coping mechanism to some people but i still think Conny’s reaction is justified. If someone laughed when i told a them a friend died i’d still be kinda pissed
The problem is Mikasa is the only one who knows this IS a coping mechanism for Eren. Because she was the only one there when Hannes died. Eren reacted the same. He laughed at his own failure to do anything. But no one would believe her because of how close they are
Just as a little note. In the manga right before we see Mikasas parents get killed her mom is wrapping up her wrist from the tattoo we see in this episode. When wit animated it they didn’t realize it would be important and changed it a bit. In the manga she has always had that wrist wrapped up.
6:00 Shoguns were military dictators in Japan for several centuries. There was still an Emperor but he was a ceremonial figure. It seems that Hizuru’s shogunate may have ended since no blood of the Shogun remain. The emperor, if there is one, may have taken over or some other government may be in place. But, it seems the Azumabitos and other clans may be pro-Shogun and may support the return of the shogunate.
I really want them to do Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood next but the first episode of Brotherhood doesn’t start at the beginning. It’s not until episode 2, that it shows them breaking the taboo. So it’s hard to choose based on first episode only.
If you go back to the episode that explains Mikasa's backstory in Season 1, she actually has a conversation about the tattoo with her mother right before the kidnappers arrived. edit: nvm, they changed it for the anime. It was only in the manga for some reason.
Also on erens laugh He laughed after he heard that sasha said meat as her last word then the show had a flash back of her meat talk on the wall while he laughed Its clear he had that memory in his head during his laughing he laughed based on ofcause being uncomfortable but alao that her last word had dark irony her love for meat is ehat he remembered in the moment

5:26 So Mikasa's tattoo might seem like its just kinda pulled out of thin air to randomly make her royalty, but actually it was set up right at the start of the series. During Mikasa's origin episode, it shows her mom teaching her an embroidery pattern that she's supposed to pass on to her kids, but in the manga it was actually her mom giving her that tattoo. I suspect it was changed for the anime because tattoos are still super taboo in japan, and the show runners didn't think it would actually come up again. This funnily enough leads to some inconsistencies in the anime, where you can see her wrists clearly without the tattoo, however in the manga, any scene that shows even a bit of her wrist, she has it covered with a bandage. Figured I'd chime in on that because when I watched this episode for the first time, it seemed a little contrived that she's all of a sudden royalty or whatever - but when I checked the source material, Isayama had been setting it up since the start.
Mikasa's tattoo was in the manga, but the anime removed it since Japan doesn't really approve of tattoo's. So the manga was consistent, as Mikasa was shown to have that bandage, and there was that scene in season 1 where she got a tattoo, but in the anime, they changed it to a "family embroidery symbol" thingy.

A few things. 1. I think Erin may have already known that Sasha died and her last words was something he didnt know and it brought back a funny memory of her. His mind is constantly in a past, present, and future mix and his response may not have had anything to do with trauma. 2. Is Zeke Earvins dad? 3. Is Hange Kennys daughter? 4. Historia starting a family to ensure heirs makes perfect sense. She may only have 13 years to live for all she knows. 5. I really dont like that they introduce the Azumabitos and then make them out to be money grubbers. We get a sense of wonderment that Mikassa has a really special heritage and then they potray them like that. Just thoughts I appreciate any constructive answers to help me understand. 😭😭
What Connie doesn't know is that Eren's memory of Sasha stealing the meat back in season 1 and bc her last word was Meat is why Eren laughed.
Eren having so much control that he just can tease a transformation without even beeing cut. Wow
I think it was the strong emotions
Poor Hange. Honestly. I miss their smile
Definitely a “romantic” look lol, I’m glad you guys didn’t overlook it like so many other reactors haha
Everyone was blushing though? Eren and Mikasa looking at eachother during that scene didn’t really indicate romance to me but more like some sort of acknowledgement. Just trying to understand why you think it’s romantic given the context of that convo
@@syamhaque8580 because they're in love with each other?
@@syamhaque8580 yes an acknowledgment of their love for each-other lmfao. Anyway… they didn’t specifically focus on Mikasa and Eren looking at each-other for no reason during that scene. Have you read the manga? If you haven’t then it’ll make sense later on when you find out.

8:07 In case no ones mentioned it,
Zeke here mentions that he procured this ODM gear himself, We actually saw Zeke take this gear off of someone, back in Season 2 Episode 1 when he killed Miche (the smeller guy) and stole his gear.
Finally, some mature comment
Took this episode for me to realize Eren was a full grown man at this point.
@@dryblackfire7587 ??
I mean not really, I’d hardly call a 19 year old a “full grown man” tbh.
@@mollyterrell881 He’s saying that because Historia got pregnant. If Historia had gotten pregnant while underaged “the show would have been cancelled”
@@DistinguishedSombrero also the idea that it would be cancelled over a pregnancy and not genocide is hilariously weird like how does one even make that conclusion
@@dryblackfire7587 genocide has happened way more in reality than you think.. Well, but one underage pregnancy is enough for twitter to drag this show to hell😶
I've heard some great analogy for that so these words are not mine but :
"Stress or trauma do that thing.
Have you caught up with the show? It’s clarified in part 2 of this season.
It is a coping mechanism too. He laughed when Hannes died too.. :(
Hey guys. With FMA:B you can't use the first episode for the comparison. That's a "filler" episode that was invented for the remake as a treat for the old fans. Every character gets introduced starting at episode 2 and all the story plots start there.
My proposition is:
1. Death Note episdoe 1 (maybe 1-2)
2. FMA: Episode 2
3. Demon Slayer episodes 1 and 2.
This combination would be a fair introduction to the stories and it would give you a clear look into the potential that all this shows have.
Ps. I'm only telling you to watch one episode of FMA with 2 episodes of the other shows because I know that if you'll watch FMA:B episode 2 you're going to pick that show in a heart's beat. ;)
in the manga, Eren and Mikasa have separate panels where they look and smile directly at each other. so yes, you can consider it a romantic moment

Small note, the original Japanese dialogue with niccolo is "this is the wine you want, right?"
He's not supposed to be the one recommending it, rather he is assuming that's the wine greiz will ask for.
It's really weird they changed it in the dub, it's a complete different meaning and changes Niccolo's character, he was trying to figure out what was happening with the wine, and it seems like he's in it.
The dub has changed a few lines that alter their meaning. It unfortunately happens but it's a shame all the same.
I'm aware of the entire plot...I'm purely watching you guys react because I love y'all and your reactions just are the best and I am waiting for when certain moments come up ❤️❤️
I always thought that the ODM gear Zeke gave to Hizuru was the one he took from Mike at the start of season 2, is that right?

The train scene

Maybe they'll pick death note
If you go back to the episode that explains Mikasa's backstory in Season 1, she actually has a conversation about the tattoo with her mother right before the kidnappers arrived.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood !
Ah yes, hello Eren terrifying counter.
2:18 this made me smile and make me proud of you two lol
5:47 I love how your reactions were in-sync lol

This is my second time through the series and I am learning alot from Kenny and Montana and the community comments. Thanks! 😊
