If you don't want to see the whole video, the self made Homebrew Box antenna wins for performance, but the SV2CZF is best for portable outdoor use. The Tecsun AN-200 is the best all rounder.
Thank you very much for the video. I am blind so I loved the fact that you told us which antenna you where using, allot of people say and the next one and if you can not see which antenna they have changed to you have no idea!!!!!! Thank you very much
You're welcome. I will take note of what you said about mentioning each antenna. For future I will try to remember to mention each item I am displaying & testing. Cheers.
That was my finding when I compared the SV2CVF antenna to my other 3 AM indoor loop antennas. The 3 outperformed the SV2CVF not by much, however the little ferrite bar antenna is good in terms of portability. Good to see the comparison. It is a great small portable antenna. Great video and thank you for posting this. Have a good night my friend and 73s. 😊
Hi. I have pointed out in the video that I could not put the radio in the same position as the other two antennas due to the size of the Homebrew Box. I did try other orientations off camera with all three antennas & the Homebrew Box was still the strongest.
A loop is directional and should be coupled as your box antenna was (90° from the internal ferrite antenna of the radio), so if you want make a fair comparaison, you have to put the two loop in the same direction.
The SV2CZF does not work when at a 90 degree angle from the internal ferrite, only when level. I tried on another radio & it was the same. Also the results between the Tecsun AN-200 & homebrew antenna were the same at a 90 degree angle when I did a test off camera.
Hi, nice comparison of different antennas. I like the AN-200 for indoor use. It looks great but it's a pain to use outside because it needs a flat surface. Funny, I always thought that the loop has to be perpendicular to the ferrite. Though I've seen people placing it at different angles at the portable's corner. My best results are when the radio is placed into the loop. Thank you for sharing, 73s
Your welcome. I thought as well that a loop was a must for an inductive antenna, but it seems not with what I made. I have seen others get similar results using milk crates. I think as long as the wavelength is matched then it will work, regardless if circular or square. 73s.
Fantastic demonstration review my friend :) It is good to hear and see on learning something new. Truly it depends on the materials being used when doing a homebrew antenna but may be cheap to make. Thanks for sharing buddy, keep it up ;) 73!

I don't see you tuning the external antennas. Did I miss that point?
They were already tuned for best reception. If I showed myself tuning the antennas then it would have made the video too long.

Your welcome Danny. It is a great antenna & one I recommend for MW DXers. 73s.
I must admit I love the Tecsun AN-200 and my one tunes upto 1933Khz so is great on 160 mtrs too.I use it with my Eton E5 rx.

It is a great antenna for the price, & yes very effective for the higher part of the MW band where pirate stations are based.
You can't fool physics, that's why size matters. Thanks for interesting video.
Your welcome. I knew what the result would be before I did the video, but I was still impressed at how good the SV2CZF is.
I guess one can get a better performance with the homebrew antenna if the wires are more neatly strung with some spacing inbetween.
I did try with a different box & the difference was minimal.
Hello Mad DXer. Maybe I'm wrong, but Homebrew Box had a different reception orientation

For my experimentation, í have seen a lot better result when connecting the an-200 compared to not connecting it
I can not barley get to the end of the road on my AM TX I give up with it. Even the little 0.6-watt FM portable goes much further.
How much power is the AM TX? The FM transmitters can sometimes have more power than what they state.

All that is perfectly logical : more wire = more signal 😉 73 Jean-Luc
True, although with this antenna I had to match the number of wires to the desired frequencies for inductance. 73s.
One can conclude that Japanese cardboard with high standard on QC is a prime material on MW reception 😅
Twaskyou sr for the video about antenas power.
Blessings
Thank you for the kind compliments.
Ok guys... Let's be honest! who spent more time checking the SONY radio? what a nice beast...
👍👍👍
Just noticed your comment 2 months late. Sorry. Thanks for watching.
