Just played the game for the first time now, and I am absolutely stunned. What a breathtaking experience. I just wish I could go back and stick with my companions because they disappeared and I ended up meeting 3 different people but didn’t stick around with them. I’ll definitely be running through this game several more times. What a masterpiece
Game Lore Archives just subscribed :) I found out about Journey only recently and searched up an explanation because I wanted to know if there was a story behind it and your video came up first. I’m glad I found you guys!
Yes I would expect someone who has played it through that many times to know the story. Maybe saying it had a subtle story would have been more appropriate :D. I suppose it would be pointless to ask if you enjoyed the video?
@@archiveoasisvids Do you know I meant to say it would be pointless to ask if you enjoyed the game. I am glad you enjoyed the video but I was not fishing for compliments .... But I will totally take the ones we get. :P Thanks.

Began and Ended my "Journey" today on PS4. It was a free game I downloaded. And wow, what can I say. Simply amazing! I felt as though I was liviing the game. I felt myself begining to care for this stranger I had met always stopping to check and see if he/she was close behind and never left behind. As we grew closer to the peak with the snow, and begining to slow our pace I found my self panicing. I looked around and thought I had lead us astray as I could not tell where we where. Then as we slowly "passed away" for lack of a better word, I actually felt sad, almost on the brink of tears. Then so happy once revived by the elders. What a fantastic game. Way more interesting then I would have imagined. Even moreso once I googled and read up on the concept of the game. I did'nt even know I was playing with ather actual persons. After realizing this, I totally regretted not having save the names of the other players I met along the way.
Wait... okay so i was playing and the other player who was with me randomly afk’d for like 5 minutes so i stood next to him chattering until he came back, i just thought the ai was bugging out... i had to wait for him to catch up through a lot of it, at the end i couldnt find him while i was going up the beam of light, turns out he was already waiting for me at the end, what a legend.
Perfect explanation, I came to that conclussion at the end as well. I just finished the game like an hour ago and I have no shame in saying that it made me cry at the end with the last song while you go back to the beginning. Not any type of crying, but the one of joy and kinda of "cant believe I just witnessed this" and couldnt stop, just crying from the amazing story I just played through. The art style, music score, gameplay, everything was perfect from beginning to end. Seriously, thank you to everyone who was part of this game, it was my pleasure and honor to play this masterpiece.
I don't think the red robed person (us) is actually the savior, more accurately a manifestation of the civilization's grief and sorrow for the mistakes they made. The red robed person was created by the civilization, not to save the society, but to tell the world that they are sorry for what they had done, and hope that this person is enough for the world to forgive them.
Wait... I was playing with a real player..? Then, the reassurance trills we sent out especially in the hard parts and running to eachother when the other got attacked... was actually a person? I bonded with someone I'll never meet ok then I thought it was just a really endearing AI who kept getting lost
Just finished it for the first time. Found a companion right at the beginning and we made through the whole journey together. This game might be super short but it is truly a masterpiece.
It was a great experience, I wasn't sure if the buddy was human or not until the credits that was a nice touch. I wish that it was a bit longer but at about the length of a feature film, it was like an interactive movie. I liked it a lot, kind of felt like Ico/SotC with the desolate loneliness.
Just played through this for the first time. Had my eye on it forever. Usually play single player always and I just started the game and found another player. First I wasn’t sure if it was npc or real player but figured it out real quick. The person seemed to be a pretty experienced player with journey. At first I wasn’t thrilled and wanted to do it alone. But man I’m glad I didn’t. This person kinda led me through it, and it was awesome. Short game but I sat through and we finished it together even though I was up way late. I had in headphones and it was such an immersive experience, and i knew this game was special. Going through the storms, hiding from the big blue light guys, everything about it was made better having someone else with me. So glad I got paired with someone. Such a beautiful game.
My experience was similar, however I was alone for the first half of the game. It was lonely, and then I met my buddy to liven things up. Then, we you hit the low point he vanished, to reappear at the end :)

In my picture, I don't think the player is any kind of savior. The player is just one of the members of the lost great culture, and is searching for the purpose of life by embarking on the Journey. The player learns the history of their culture along the way and communicates with the spirits of your ancestors through mediation. In the end, the player, through all the suffering, atones for the wrongdoings of their people, and their spirit transcended on the top of the mountain, visualized in the form of falling stars.
I played Journey for the first time 2 hours ago and just finished it. The first time a friend was switched for another it was right at the end of the water level and I sat there for 5-10 minutes calling for the person I had played with for the first quarter... Then I sadly left, almost feeling as if they drowned. I wasn't expecting to cry, and when that final scene ended I was in tears of awe.
Got to play this masterpiece when it became free. Rocking that white robe and got almost every trophy except the Return trophy. Amazing how the story is even without words. The visuals still hold up to this day and the music gave me goosebumps. All of these combined made me actually tear up on my first playthrough. Now, I'm joining other red robes on their journey. :')
