hey woodle. I did your calculations. the 40 block distance must be a circular 40 degree angle from your characters eye level. so, for example 22x32 (30 from ground level plus 2 meters for your characters height)= just about 40 blocks diagonally from your characters line of sight (38.83298 meters to be exact). if you increase the width of the ramp by one meter, it goes to 39.40812 which is just shy of 40 meters, and if the ground isn't level (which it's not). It goes over the 40 block limit causing the zombers to think it's too far.
I'm pretty sure the Devs and the collective staff at The Fun Pimps have learned to Despise how Woodle has consistently figured out how to get around all their absurdist "zombie horde pathing" strategies ... and built an AFK Base in EVERY ALPHA of 7 Days ... and this latest 1.0 (Alpha 22) game release is NO EXCEPTION.
Hmmm... I wonder if you could build that base on the side of a large structure? let's say, in a rather dense population centre? Maybe with a certain type of baton? Just asking for a friend. Love ya work mate
Back in alpha 18, I built a horde base on top of a desert spire, with a gyro pad on the roof. I didn't create a path for the zombies. The first horde night, I just watched them make their way up to me as I picked them off with a rocket launcher. By that point, the game stage was pretty high, so all the glowing radiateds made it easy to track them. Over subsequent horde nights, I used blocks of asphalt to enhance their path at a few spots, but other than that, I just let them find their own way to me on the existing terrain.
I love doing regional accents for voice overs and such and I am learning so much Aussie slang from watching you play - "Bush bashing" "bog off"...thank you for improving my vocabulary!
Is it possible that the top of the cliff's height was a factor with the first attempt? Maybe they didn't want to go higher than you were and it was throwing them off? You've said before that they wouldn't go up to then have to go back down to get to you, and the cliff top was not perfectly flat.
Josh, where's the helipad! :) I love this concept. The only downside is actually getting back to your base to unload. Just imagine if we had real elevators!
Am I missing something? When he measured the distance, the blue area didn't come anywhere near the building he was standing in - it could have easily been 6 more blocks to where Woodle was standing, right?
Never underestimate what a camry can do 😂 But seriously, camry and civic are nearing 50 years of production and remained top sellers the entire time. Cant hate on em
I just heard that a recent patch like a day ago (8/8/24), 7 Days was update. And now the "Scaffolding Ladder" piece no longer protects against Cop Spit. I heard this while testing a living base idea that had a drop trap, using the Upside Down Wedge Tips. The idea is a set of stairs about 15 blocks from the elevated base. The Wedge Tips come off of the stairs and there is a path connecting to the base. The non-feral zombies I tested (4 at a time) went through the drop once and then one of the four headed towards the base. The other three continued to the stairs and drop. Once I defeated the zombie beating on the base another one left the group of three and started beating on the base. There could have been a connection to them seeing me but I am not sure about that yet. I wanted to share since you probably recorded this vid before the patch and it may be worth testing again.
Way fun! And quite honestly I think a lot of people sleep on the desert plateau base building in this game. I've gotta get a mega Plateau Base build done one of these days.
You know to be extra careful you can block the trench with those Jersey Barriers (what the bridge centers that you use for your zombie proof wall.) You know something for you to hop over but they will just run by and no chance of someone getting pushed into the trench by an impatient Arlene.
Much of the time you were giving them a clear and easy path to get to you. I'm curious about a base that maximizes the time a zombie takes to get to you. How many jumps does it take for a zombie to get to you?
I have a Woodle question... early in the video you're putting down ladders and one of ladders is clipped into the ground and there's sort of an upside down ramp block effect to it. Would zombies still see that as a viable path and if so, would they fall off the ladder? Basically can you build a nature zombie dropper that way by manipulating the terrain. Edit: added timestamp @15:30
After seeing that afk base "floating" (from another creator), I was thinking of something like this (but not this good). Other one is building a base on the intersection of 3 biomes (to control zombie spaw while keeping the loot bags on the highest loot stage one).
I don't think the 40 blocks is the total distance they would travel. Rather, it's if they can find a viable path within 40 blocks. That's why your spiral base still worked. They was way more than 40 blocks total, but because the "opening" to the viable path was within 40, they were fine taking it.
Ok for zombie dropping try making a pole side centered line with a single catwalk plate v2 block having one point pointed at the zombies. Yeah it's floating but if you give is some support it'll still work. Just try it
I'm pretty sure it's still in the game, another creator I saw was using it. There is a regular one and a powered one , which can be connected to a switch or motion sensor
Josh it might not have been the distance causing them to not go up the ramp. It might have been seen as above your sanding height, that slight block at the end of the ramp is about half a block above you, and because of that they don't go up to get to something lower down.

The rule of falling 15 is always good since having bigger hordes they tend to pile on top of each other and can gap the few meter threshold. Only negative to making a base 15 blocks up is it is 15 blocks up so 60 blocks if you do 4 pillars or 600 cobblestone/conc and that is without the rest of the base and path
I’ve seen him say build at least 7 blocks high a few times now, did it change with 1.0 or is that just a bare minimum number? Building my first base soon and had planned for 7 high but don’t want to screw myself over
@@ling0s138 within 13 or so from the player for the destroy everything, and 7 high is to make them less likely to bash your pillars over running far. that is why his dropper builds have more than 13 drop or drop them more than 13 away normally
First base, instead of building that janky ramp path up to the top, i would have carved a path from bottom to the top into that mountain side and all those resources from digging path to the top can be used later on. only problem would be metal class node if you find one... screamers love metal type of node when your harvest them. but with your idea you can build base out of all that stuff you harvest into cobble base for your first horde. Finally for that car, they where playing prank on a friend by using helicopter to leave the car there.
Josh, at the second cliff base would it be possible to measure the distance between where the zombies fall and their pathway to the valley? Like does it still fall in that 40 block range?
Personally Id have tried making a 3 x3 or 4x4 spiral stairwell inside the mountian so it hides the "building ugliness. just have to give them an opening at the base of the stairwell to get into it. Be like a elevator shaft for them to cleanly accend. Or do your dropper stairwell you recently made so they can never actuall get to you. Then the drawbridge is not needed and out can make a more astetical walking bridge to the house
I sent you a message on Instagram thinking I might have figured out the cop vomit and the more than half block. Was rather long so couldn't put it on X as originally planned. But a way to clean up the first ramp maybe wrap it around the front of the cliff face to keep it within range?
I admit I don't watch all of your videos, so excuse me if this has been answered or played with. But Josh, have you tried the double double railing yet? ( full name "Catwalk V2 Rail Only Double Double End") Or did you try and decide it was too cheesy and not worth focusing on in case TFPs removed it's functionality soon?
I have, but I have this personal idea that the cheese builds have to make sense in the world. Invisible blocks and things that couldn't exist in the real world just... don't sit right with me? They have to look like they'd be physically possible, and obviously levitation is not a thing. I'd never use them in my own games, as a personal preference thing, so I generally don't focus on them in videos. A fine line I know, but that's just me. No shade on people using it for their own games though, play however you have the most fun, that's what's so good about games!
If you use the Ramp 6m blocks for your horde fighting location then you have a cop spit proof base .... cops can not see through these blocks and will not spit at you
I'm pretty sure it's because in their pathing they see it as a whole block, so they think they can walk anywhere in the volume it occupies. There's also blocks that are the complete opposite. You can clearly walk across them, but zombies don't see them as a valid path.
Thats why my horde base didnt work i was using the wrong block i was using corner pole block since i made it 2 wide for centering purposes and they wanted to beat the door instead of routing up i swapped it to the ramp60 block hopefully i have better luck come horde night
