Reminds me of a lass i went to school with and always stuck up for if she was being bullied which caused me a few problems as a result. She was wild for years but it wasn't until she collapsed in her twenties that a scan showed a tumour,she was lucky and they removed it.She's now the complete opposite of the wild self of her younger years so sometimes it can work out to be a happy ending.
Yep brought back memories, hot plate always a problem, staff gave the food out in a dispersal I worked, not a task I looked forward too as you occasionally wore it
My brother had a beautiful black Labrador,they called him Max,but Tae me he was Mick the dugg,I loved that big slobberin guy,he ended up in bad health n had Tae be put Tae sleep,RIP Mick the dugg♥️♥️
Just found your page and podcast Sam. It was the 'K-wing' that caught my attention. I spent my 18th birthday on K-wing back in May 1973 (K -4-10) right next to the recess. I was on my way to Hindley, two years for GBH, ABH, and wounding. Back then Hindley housed the borstal system's worst trouble makers from all over the UK. You mention K-wing only having three landings, but back then there were definitely four. Perhaps the change came after the riot, when slopping out stopped and cells were fitted out with toilets. In my day each landing was opened up in rotation at meal times on different days so you had some chance of getting warm food to eat. Metal tray back then and yes...saw many used for other purposes. Being on the top landing I don't remember eating anything hot.

In my experience most no 1s forget they are prisoners and act worse then screws and then soon as they loose there job they regret how they acted towards other prisoners! That little bit of fake power gets to there head.
