Used to play this game on 2002 or maybe 2003 when I'm still junior high with 7 of my buddies in internet cafe.... 2 of them died on automobile accident recently. This makes me remember those guys....

This game was lightning in a bottle. Gravity literally tried to do the same thing they did here TWICE and BOTH times failed MISERABLY (Ragnarok online 2 and Tree of savior). It is a testament of how this game was etched in the hearts and minds of the people that had the once in a lifetime opportunity to experience this life changing video game.
ragnarok online 1 alpha launch in korea was also a disaster: when koreans found out they were going the subscription route, they went all out on dupes and hacks. it's why RO is such a unfinished mess with missing guild systems, no housing, rushed tilesets, no animated hairs, etc. but despite all that, NA and JP learned to love this game for what it was/is. cutting room floor and RO wiki has more info about this.
1 - Don't just blame the company, the COMMUNITY was also for blame. (Everyone HYPED it with extremely high expectations (obviously that would fail, like the vast majority things do), specially Tree of Savior, saying it was a sucessor when it wasn't even near it to begin with.) 2- We don't have nostalgia of the game, we have of the era when we were kids and teenagers. Simply because having fun without worries is what marks the golden age. I've played many famous mmos but honestly it's not them who matters, it's the friends who we made and the journey we took to where we are right now. If it wasn't Ragnarok the reason to meet people, it would be something else, trust me. 3- People are all so sad but remember: We STILL have the opportunity to experience happiness in life. Even in other games or events. No it's not the same. But that's the point, it's not supposed to be. People are hypocrites by heart, they claim there isn't nothing like this or that but don't like repetition. Every encounter, every moment and thing we do in your life should be unique so that is remembered. Be we children, adults or even old people. So don't cry or blame old memories, make new ones and move ahead.

I remember we could collect cards from them and even the disk which was pretty decent updated when new expansions were being released: My first was WoE themed magazine, then Kunlun and Marriage system themed. Not sure if when reborn system came out we still had Blockbuster.

The first time playing Ragnarok Online hits different. That nostalgia, that feeling that you want to go back. Sadly, we don't have capabilities of going back. These feelings will just be embedded in our memories. Every BGM of each map, you'll hear the specific monster sounds that you're killing. I miss the feeling of playing this game for the first time.

Damn I miss grinding with my boys on Rag. Some of my favorite moments ever in all my years of gaming. It was such a masterpiece and so unique compared to other games.
The best parts of RO for me were the early days of classes 1: Novice in Prontera's Plain, Acolyte healing zombies in Payon's Cave, Mage vertical firewall Hode in Desert, Acher racing for Glove[] in Pyramid F3, and Merchant OC shenanigans in Morroc. Those were the days when games had soul, players didn't rush to the highest level before experiencing the game, and you could sit down and chat with strangers. 😢
POV: It's 2002. You're a Novice going from Izlude to Prontera when you're seeing a Pupa and decided to hit it with your Knife, only to realize that it took you 10 minutes to kill one.

..I was 14 when I met this girl on my server. I always had my Sin party up with her Priestess, and it didn't take long before Amatsu dropped and we had our mains get married in-game.
Waiting till 1am in 2005 as a kid for patch to complete with my hideious dial up speed. Jumped in the game roaming outside of izlude getting a few cards didn't know I was "lucky" With the cards thought it was a random garbage drop and sold it to the npc. The nostalgia and memories in ragnarok will always have a place in my heart

2002,1st yr highschool since i played this game, 1st character was hunter with a strength build. Lol. Dko pa alam gagawin kasi nung time na un, kasi tinuruan ako noon ng mga tambay n str build ko muna dw kasi novice para mabilis pumatay. Lol. Ive been to many servers, Chaos server is still the best with more than 120k online players!!! So much memories. May napalevel 99 naman ako noon, pahirapan nga lang, wiz int dex type, hunter dex agi, hunter int dex for MVP boss, imagine then kung magkano nagastos ng dahil sa levelup load 😂
