I swear it's so complex if I track back some connections. Also, some are so random its unbelievable. And thanks to UA-cam the randomness is brought to a new international level. I am already meeting such cool people all around the globe.
I started blender like 5 or 6 months ago and just finished my 1st freelance project a few days ago. You inspire me a lot and also help me with your tuts and videos like this🖤🤝🏽
@@DamianMathew And this video is exactly how I got my client too! I did a random car animation video and posted it on reddit and someone who had a business saw it and that was the story😁
I learned so much from you. Two months ago I got paid project with motorcycles. Thanks to you I got this job. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and everything. You are big inspiration and your videos push me to work harder in Blender.
As also a Mustang owner (shamelessly flaunted on the avatar) I have met quite the amazing track days people including one Mazda Miata bloke who happens to make video games and has a video game production company. Our talks usually don’t focus on that, it’s mostly cars, but from time to time I do refer him to other people that might help him some of his immediate problems. Currently it hasn’t skyrocketed in big part because I have already a 200% time consuming job but I’m confident that good willed and trustful people like this can create incredibly fruitful endeavors for all involved. Your video is a perfect reminder to cherish and appreciate those opportunities too, sometimes I might treat them for granted.
Yes! Also, really a lot of stuff I can track back to cars. Cars are a great door opener haha. Also keep in mind, Mustangs in Germany at the time were very special, so that also introduced me to a lot of people. I assume in the US it would not be the same unless you have a THICC wide body or something haha
Basically yes haha. The more you do, the more will happen. Somehow, it really is that simple. Because once you do anything really, you will come up with all kinds of stuff suddenly. And what I tried to say is, there is no right or wrong, I don't even know. I just see and test and try. There are more than enough things that didn't work out well but they gave me new ideas haha
Yeah, can confirm. I did ONE car rendering image in 2006 and posted it online (my own crappy car concept - it wasn't even great, but It had moody lighting and nice shading quality). In 2007 I did a job for an agency rendering some Vans for Daimler. They flew me in, paid for the hotel, taxi and restaurants + a good salary. I felt like a VIP. I did nothing to deserve that job, I did one cheap ass logo for another agency and they saw my car and before I knew it I was sitting in the plane to Stuttgart. Only downside to working in these agencies - I am not compatible with the type of people working in advertising. My presence makes them feel uneasy and they all hate me from day one (and it gets worse every day).
You are getting client for 2 reasons the most important one is your dedication to work(as u said in earlier videos you skip food etc until you didn't finish your work) And second is your luck (Hardwork always attract luck this is what i learnt from life meanwhile)
Yes, good point, I didn't mention that here. I do really push and finish and don't give up usually. I do what has to be done and take things seriously. Luck, yes. But suddenly Luck is everywhere when you opened so many doors. But yes, what I am calling random is kind of luck I guess. But the luck won't come when doing nothing haha
Yup,so random. Lemme tell you my story. Two years ago,i got a recommendation about a video in which a person made a working gaming console. After that, because autoplay was on which i usually keep off,a brackeys video started playing. I got into it and learned unity and somehow made 3 games. From brackeys,i got to know about blender.Seached about it and found donut tut. Started using blender and within an year, searched for a car paint material and found your channel. Just imagine if that console video haven't came in yt recommendation!
I’m glad you liked it. I sometimes struggle to explain. But also if I knew all so well, I’d be a millionaire not working and drifting all day on my island right now haha.
Exactly! And also don't worry about what step. Like what University, what software and so on. Just do what's fun and keep doing it. Learn more. Meet new People. Just move forward. The more, the better.
I hear that a lot, actually. But would I have been lucky without starting band or UA-cam? And I did a looooooot I worked in a call center, a print-shop, I fixed heaters, I skated. I can tell you a ton of stories that came from these places. Like now, I even remember, I did a model shoot last year because the son of the CEO of the printshop now has a fashion label and needed photos. It is luck, yes, but I am lucky all the time. And that is no coincidence.
Hard disagree. The gain you make from the lottery is extremely disproportional to the work you put in. This is very different, if Damian wasn't good at what he currently does for a living, he wouldn't be where he is now. Of course there is luck involved, but it is a much less important factor than the total effort investment.
@@mr.dingleberry4882 I'm talking about the luck factor. Of course the skills, the attitude are in the equation too. But if you listen his story, the skills came with the casualty of events. Also very skilled and smart people are failing all the time. I just mean that it's easy to ask to people how they succeed because they succeed... But you have to consider the number of people with same chances who gonna failed. I never said that he succeeds just because of luck. And it was general rethoric as I'm always amused to see people like bezos or gates asked how to succeed in life...there is no secret recipe of success. Of course doing nothing and staying home won't help just as you will never win to lottery without buying a ticket
@@mr.dingleberry4882 imagine if Damian never met the son of his first employee... His future would have been totally different. This is butterfly effect. So asking the success recipe is really pointless. It is much more relevant to ask to people how they failed. But they get less exposure usually 😂
I haven't sold not even a single gig on Fiverr, just people asking if I can fix an already made project just to leave me in read soon after. At least I'm having fun.
Awesome man just got some animation jobs and its amazing thanks so much as u know u inspire so much and btw im like alfa this is my second account lmao
Hi Damian, I'd like to thank you for your videos: I've learned more from videos like yours than in 3 years of design school. Anyway, talking about your experience in Germany, did you have to learn the language, or have you always worked and communicate "in english" ? Or maybe you were already bilingual? Do you think is possible to move to a place like Germany (or Sweden or whatever) where wages are higher without being able to talk the local language (maybe learning along the way), but showing all the qualities of a professional? Thanks again for your attention, and have a good day.
Oh that’s really great to hear actually! My first 6 years I only spoke English, then I started learning German. So yeah I speak German fluently by now. To answer your question: English is totally fine. Even at Volkswagen wich is very German a lot of people work completely in English. Also Byton was very English. Also right now I’m working with a German product company and they all speak and write English. But I also know companies that are completely German. So it depends but English is very common especially to be able to get better talents that way. Because Germany is not that big after all so speaking English will open a lot of doors. But Germans love Germans and will trust a German more in a lot of cases (as racist as that sounds). But it really depends on the company and team, it varies a lot.
@@DamianMathew Thank you for your reply, Damian. May I ask you one more thing? Did you have any issues finding a place to live in Germany, since you didn't speak the language?
