Flora, Fauna, Funga | Documentary | National Geographic Society
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 лют 2025
- This short film follows Chilean mycologist Giuliana Furci’s search for new mushrooms in far southern Chile, on the main island of Tierra del Fuego. She’s joined by biologist and author Merlin Sheldrake and mycologist Toby Kiers from SPUN, the Society for the Protection of Underground Networks, whose goal is to map the mycorrhizal networks of the world. Together, the three scientists illuminate how-through nutrient cycling and the essential relationships they form with plants-fungi underpin every ecosystem on Earth, and outline a strategy for greater fungal inclusion in conservation policy.

My mama is the one with the bright blue jacket. I miss her when she goes on exhibitions, but it is worth it seeing such a beautiful documentary. Chile looks so adventures, maybe next time I can join her.
your mama sounds so cool
Your mom is a legend in mycology, an inspiration for many biologists 😊
Thanks for sharing your mom!!!
yes join your mama when you are ready!
My daddy owns that Forrest.
A life well lived indeed. Giuliana Furci and the Fungi Foundation are doing so much to elevate the place of fungi in our understanding of the natural world. Without fungi, no forest, no us, and no planet as we know it. Thank you so much Fungi Foundation, Giuliana, Merlin, Toby, SPUN and Nat Geo for all that you are doing.
I LOVED hearing cosmo sheldrake's music in a video where I discovered his brother who's is a renowned biologist. This is an incredible video and my love for funga just grows and grows.
Thank you for mentioning his name. This comment made me find him on Spotify, and now I'm in love with his music!
His brother is a musician, his father is the renowned biologist, Rupert Sheldrake. Great friends with Terence McKenna!
What a beautiful atmosphere of nature 😍
I kept tripping over the beauty of the music. Thank you for mentioning the composer! 💋
Do read Entangled Life, if you haven't had a chance yet. Such a beautiful journey in the fungal world.
I love National Geographic and all it does since I was a child. Thanks for over 40yrs of learning, curiosity, amazing discoveries, unparalleled photography and so much more. What a treasure for the world. My father collected your magazines and I spent countless hours with them. 😊💗

@Bunnybella
Beautifully said and exactly my thoughts.
would love an hour-long documentary from this delightful crew!
Totally agree! ❤
As a biologist I can only agree, fungi has been neglected far to long.
Now I'm a biology teacher and I always talk about fungi with my students.
Funga alter mind ❤❤❤
Fungi are awesome and they deserve to be recognized as the interconnectors of life!
Ahhh! This documentary made my heart happy. I love hearing other people who are so passionate about mushrooms. I'm grateful for my friends who listen to me rant about them, and can't wait to be on more adventures with people like this team!! :)
If you’re North American based check out the fungal diversity survey and NAMA!
Anyone who has an appreciation for nature will get so much out of exploring the world of fungi! 🥰
So pleased to see more documentaries on this amazing kingdom that supports all life! ❤
These four are singlehandledly changing the world of science as we know it, what an incredible group of loveley people, and an incredible, inspiring documenatry to show it. I love the use of Cosmo Sheldrake's music too!
So wonderful! I watched with a smile on my face and tears forming in my eyes. The delight and joy you all have as you engage with this vital kingdom is palpable. Thank you!
I loved this! It made me tear up. A heartfelt thanks from a fellow mycophile in Kentucky. Beautiful countryside in Chile! Hope to go there someday and meet you Giuliana! Also Merlin’s celebration cheer was lovely 🥃
This was delightful. 💜
This is such an important task. Well done!
What a joy to watch, their passion for what they do makes me smile
your advice that in order to see mushrooms, you need to sit down, relax and let your eyes adjust, is so profound
Documentaries to do with mycology are top tier.
Amazing! I have also dedicated my life to wild mushrooms and plants. It's nice to see proper treatment of the under-appreciated, yet vast, Kingdom!
One of the beautiful documentary of Fungi Collection in wild areas...❤🍄 Flora, fauna and funga are the most beautiful creature of nature...
This video has opened my eyes and it's really beautiful to see their world ~
This was so wonderful! I would love to see a series or a much longer documentary - so much more to discover :)
Gracias por expandir este mágico conocimiento!! Está increíble!!!
I feel very proud op Giuliana and her love for Fungi world. She show me whit the Fundacion books the incrediable world of fungi in my country, Chile. This is only the begining :)
This is really next level film making guys, thank you for amazing insight as always. This story was special, Giuliana is a gift to Chilean forest conservation and to the world for her insight and determination.
I am so thrilled I found this documentary.
Every word speaks to my soul.
Where science meets sacred.
I adore the fungi awareness you and Merlin and your team are illuminating through national geographic.
Finally the distinction has been made and the crucial rsymbiotic, connective role Fungi plays in the theater of life!!
I hope everyone finds their Merlin to have a partner in inspiration and the preservation of our planets complex ecology.
The role and development of Flora , Fauna thanks to Fungi!!
I adored you all!!
Thank you 🍄
Beautiful!!
Lovely documentary, wish it was longer. Music was very nice too, good to get to know Cosmo Sheldrake.
Maravilloso 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Every year here in SF, CA I wait for the right weather to go looking for fungi in the park. I get so excited when I come across something I've never seen before.
my father would be proud of you guys ! he taught me so many things about fungus and its nutritional values , he was a doctor, this whole video reminded me of my dad ! thank you
A wonderful and inspiring film. Muchas gracias Giuliana!
This has given me much more intense interest in fungi
Gratitud Giulina y Nat geo! Los hongos salvaran el humano!
Besides the obvious coolness of this documentary, I actually listen to music made by Merlin Sheldrake’s brother, and actually didn’t know about the mycologist! It’s also fun listening to his music throughout the documentary- I was suspicious that it was him from the sound but the end confirms it when he starts singing!XD
It's so awe inspiring to realize we have been on a road to discovery, and we missed so much, below our feet.🍄
Love this video. And I love your love of the funga. Thanks for sharing..🌙
This was very pleasant to watch and insightful, hope to see more of the Fungi team

I love EVERYTHING about this and you guys
so happy she found friends just like her but different 😭🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
My little sister and I just watched this and enjoyed it greatly! We were inspired by this kingdom and hope they get the attention they deserve! Keep going, don’t stop, and congrats!
Also, why/how are touching the mushrooms with their barehands? Are they certain of their effects?😳🫢🤔🍄🍄
Chase your dream…we need more mycologists!!!
It's a common myth that touching any fungi can be harmful - even the most deadly of fungi can be handled. The only way a toxic fungi could hurt you is if you ingested it.
These are expert mycologists! They know what species they are looking at.
But fun fact, you can pretty much in general, touch any fungus! - with very few exceptions where you would maybe want to wash your hands after.
Eating them on other hand is another thing. It is very important you only eat something you find if you know EXACTLY what it is. Some mushrooms can kill you with just a bite!
@@KaoticSheep9 oh ok, thanks so much, I didn’t know that! I thought they were discovering new species though. 🫢😊🤔
Great, thanks
Amazing! ❤
The Sheldrake brothers are such a vibe. Obsessed
Did they use any of Cosmo's music ?
@@oriel9347yeah, I'd say over half of the music used in here I recognised as Cosmo Sheldrake's music
amazing.
Adoro esta fundacion, los hongos, esta gente y todo lo valioso que descubren para la humanidad ❤gracias!
Seek knowledge with an open mind, for wisdom blooms in the soil of curiosity.
Always curious and surprised by what I find on Whidbey Island, WA. 😊

6:13 what- is that an instrumental Pelicans We and some sort of Wriggle remix??? that's so cool sounding
The only problem is, the video is too short. But overall it's amazing! 🍄🍄
I love you fungaaa ❤
Why am I crying when she finds her 1000th? Loved this so much!
Saat masih kecil saya senang mencari jamur dikebun rumah Ibu😅 atau jika libur berkunjung kehutan. Saya menyebut jamur adalah rumah peri kecil🤭 video ini sungguh menyenangkan❤

Finally Fungi gets some recognition 🎉
I love that phrase, “It’s not our day to meet them macroscopically.”

Would LOVE to know what was in those little round cups!
Yerba Mate
@@reeveshollar9233 of course!
Bacteria can do many of the functions, but Fungi do have an ecological niche. They are very efficient at what they do.
Morels are the best.. Loss of habitat is the the greatest threat to them
It’s everywhere even in an on us ❤
I live in a rainforest in Hawaii and am always surprised by fungi
Psylocybin sp please ❤
I love mushroom, i read entangled life of Merlin Sheldrake and they are my passion... I grow them and search for them in forest, i would also like to study them but its hard, i'll soon start university and i would like to fuse my passion and my studies but how can i do that?
The one thing I dislike about this is that it puts maybe way too much focus on the multicelular fungi, while we have yeasts doing a lot of the works described here. Other than that, beautiful documentary.
yes!! flora fauna funga.
Love from Bangladesh ❤
❤👍👌
Protect these people at all cost
Was that Glass Animals at the end?
Cosmo Sheldrake
@@sirsheline thank you!!
What about Maryweather?
Flora, Fauna and Funga (perfect pet name idea) hahahax
Toby Kiers, he seems like he's fun, I guess you could say he's a fun.......
Person, a fun person.
🌿
I assume you're jotting down details for every anatomical part of the mushroom and sharing them with the medical community.
You may possibly be holding a cure for cancer or dementia. thank you for everything
