Hi Tim have just branched out to include asl longbow and wooden arrows in my archery antics, thanks for the video's they will be great help. Already have found grip and heavier arrows help with recoil and I'm liking it more every time I shoot, 40# draw and 500grn arrows accurate and they hit like cannonballs. For want of a better description it feels "elegant to shoot" compared to other fast bows that seem frantic. Thanks for sparking my intrest in this type of bow, your video's are definitely a big help for beginners, experienced based knowledge a great asset to us all.
Peace and happiness brother ✌️ 🙏

Hey Tim, really appreciate this video. I have my dads old Martin longbow which I’ve struggled with and haven’t enjoyed shooting more than about 10 minutes at a time do to this issue. I’ll go ahead and apply what you’ve talked about here and see what happens. I’d love to be able to shoot it comfortably like I do my recurves. Been really liking your videos and info you’ve been putting out and the simple let’s sit down and talk format. Keep up the good work and it’s much appreciated.

Good information thanks. I do find that a D97 helps the vibration considerably.

I don't have a Hill style bow, but after watching some of your videos I'm afraid that I want one now. I think maybe next year we'll get one. Interesting video, thank you sir.😊

Hey tim, I bought your NM Shelton. Shoots great. You’re absolutely right on shooting arrows that are heavy enough. I shoot 720G it’s a thumper. Thanks

Love that shirt! Is that Fred Bear camo? I have a 45lb 68" Farmington Apache longbow I got from Three Rivers Archery and I'm struggling to get rid of the handshock. I replaced the string with Fastflight, use 620 gr arrows, added string silences and all of that helped a lot but it still has just enough to annoy me. I also experimented with grip and bent bow arm. Next I'm going to wrap the grip with rubber and make some douglas fir arrows. I will also experiment more with grip and string grip. Good suggestions!

Campfire Kodiak that shirt is just a cheap shirt I got at Academy. Like 20 bucks.
One thing you might toy around with for your handshock issue is braceheight. A few twists of the string either up or down can make a difference in efficiency and it also can change the tone or noise the bow makes when shot. Hope this helps. Shoot Straight!

I shoot a Fairbow Hillstyl bow. And a Victorian style English longbow.
Started out shooting recurves 45 years ago. Longbows with heavy arrows behave less erratic then recurves but seem to have a slower working speed. But if you want to hit a target, what good is a fast bow, that jumps in you hand?

Actually, the flat limb bow style was out before Howard Hill but used an English/Early Medieval Longbow style handle on the grip/bow section yet still had the side shelf, some modern straight limb longbows use this design. Closest bows made currently are by Grayvn archery in the Bushman bow that is similar to what we would see then in the old flat limb longbow as it was called but the right and left shelf version.

What makes a bow a " Hillstyle" is not just the shape. Howard Hill's inovations, were also the materials he used. He was one of the first to use fiberglass as a laminated backing. Before he used silk or other fabric. This was not meant to give the bow more power, but to make it more resistant to breakage. He also jnterduced the use of Bamboo laminations as a limb material. This had already been in use on the traditional Japanese Yumi bow.

The arrows do not need to be wood, as on UA-cam, Traditional Bowhunting and Wilderness Podcast Jason he uses heavy carbon fiber limbs, ones he has put 30%--35% Forward Of Center (FOC) on his arrows. He uses then for practice field tips he made of the same wight boradhead he hunts with 250 grains and had to get his own feathers and put a 100 grain insert to make the arrow work for his needs and have the max FOC that can work with hunting. He has a modern Howard Hill style bow using fiberglass backing that also has older true Howard Hill early limbs pre 1950 with less pointed ends from Northern Mist Longbows that makes more the 1930's and 1940's shape of Howard Hill bows.
