    I worked at Sephora for awhile, and it always irked me when girls that had beautiful skin would wear full coverage foundations. I used to always try to convince girls that they can use something less, but some people refuse to believe that "flawless" can be anything other than completely covering up every bit of your face.

      babexrahamlincolnyes I know what you mean ... my idea of 'Flawless' is not that flat, blanket coverage look. I like to still see life, dimension and texture after base and concealer (only without all the actual main blemishes..... if that makes sense) X

      babexrahamlincoln wish I could have a makeover done by you (as sadly never going to have the opportunity to have one done by Lisa), I hate shopping for makeup as no matter which counter I go to I always get given a heavy coverage of foundation when I have acne free skin but just rosacea I'd like to cover up!

    Your approach is so refreshing Lisa. It shocks me how much foundation (& often multiple layers of concealer) some youtubers use, even when they are very young with perfect skin. Much prefer this kind of look & think it's more flattering for ALL skintypes.

      Terri Fleming That Australian girl, Lauren Curtis is terrible for this. There are a lot of 'beauty gurus' on youtube who actually little to no training and just fell into this, and people say they look pretty and perfect when in reality it's a mask, that under daylight (and not camera lights) would likely not look good at all. There are even some gurus who push the 'spider lashes' look... Just no.
      Lisa Eldridge knows what she is doing, delivers professional tutorials, which beautiful results.

      Nic StrawberryBlonde I totally agree with you. I love heavy eye makeup as the next girl does, and I like to have a bold lip too. Although, I sometimes cringe the way some of these girls put on their foundation and concealer. Also, the way their contour looks on them it's like an orange streak. In all honesty, I just enjoy some of their product recommendations or looks when watching some of them.

    It’s sad how IG & so many YT beauty gurus have impressed upon the younger generation how they should have full coverage foundation and concealer when they don’t even have things to cover on their perfect skin. And if they do have areas that need concealing, they do t understand how caking on high coverage products with a dense brush simply draws the wrong attention to those areas and accentuates the problem, not disguising it. I’m a brand rep in Sephora and am asked constantly for the latest YT/IG trends and it is SO important to focus on technique and how to apply these products in a flattering way as opposed to squeezing out a big dollop of full coverage matte foundation and half a bottle of thick concealer underneath the eyes. Technique & application are literal game changers!

    'The Eldridge Technique', I love it! In one of your videos on covering acne I've always recalled your advice since I watched it and now I focus on my problem areas (chin/jaw) and let my 'natural skin' show on my cheeks and forehead etc - it works so much better than just covering my entire face in the same amount of foundation! I always find your videos so professional but accessible at the same time, thank you :)

I am not a fan of really heavy makeup, I love a natural finish and while I do have some uneven pigmentation from old acne scars, I think this is definitely the best way to conceal them without a cakey finish. Your genuinity and enthusiasm with the art of makeup comes right through our screens without you asking for anything in return. In case you end up doing that "undereye concealer" video, it would be SO helpful if you addressed how to deal with *RED* undereye circles. I'm quite fair and the skin under my eyes is very "translucent", so that pinkish/redish hue shows through! Pinkish correctors will only worsen the probelm(i'm guessing, i haven't tried one) , while yellow and green ones tend to leave a gray cast. I know you are not a magician, and some things just can't be covered completely, but i thought i'd ask since i guess you've come across what i'm describing on models, celebrities etc, so it would be very helpful if you told us how you deal with it. Crossing my fingers you'll see this. And thank you!

      Princess Leia I'm olive skinned and quite sallow. Also, my skin is very translucent, I can see reddish/purplish veins in my undereyes, greenish along the upper part of the bridge of the nose and in my jaw :P I usually just use concealer under my eyes and blush (I rarely use foundation, I don't like how it feels on the skin). Whenever I don't put on my makeup (concealer and blush) people think I'm sick, I look very pale, etc.

    • @sakurajenn
      @sakurajenn 9 років тому +1

      Steffy Rodriguez You can try using a green-tinted color corrector before concealer in order to cancel out the redness. Another trick is to use a concealer that is slightly darker, just slightly, because it'll conceal the darkness better. Or it might be that you just need a higher coverage concealer for spots, I really recommend the Nars Creamy Concealer, it completely changed my life! (and I have tons of scarring from previous acne haha)

    • @paperyakuk
      @paperyakuk 9 років тому

      If it's covering the red tone, it's probably heavy/thick enough but maybe try a shade lighter, or mix in a lighter shade to lighten the dark scar. It takes a bit of practise because you don't want to be lighter than the rest of your skin but if blended properly it should work :)

    ever since you did that acne covering video years ago i've been following your technique and i am so grateful for it!
    my tip for anyone with FRECKLES:
    whenever my skin's playing up i actually don't use any foundation and go right in with concealer (using zoeva's 223 petit eye blender to apply and sometimes zoeva's 142 concealer buffer to blend). i find that when i cover up my freckles even with only a thin layer of foundation, it just emphasizes the blemishes more, so my overall complexion does in fact look better without foundation.

    THIS is why you're my all-time favorite makeup artist... Since high school, I've been doing the spot concealing trick because it just never made sense to me to cover everything and make it obvious I'm wearing makeup when not everything needs covering. I had bad acne in school and no one knew it because of this technique. It's funny too because I JUST visited Sephora and instead of going crazy, I decided I should just get a great concealer to use with all my different BB creams and bases, and I picked up the Cover FX one you use here. Sorry this is so long! You're just the best. I can't wait for your book :)

    Hi Lisa! I love your videos. I was wondering if you'd consider doing a contouring tutorial for people who literally can't find their cheekbones - as in people with very round features? I never know how to apply ANYTHING right when it comes to cheeks - bronzer, contouring powder (which I tend to just skip..), blush, highligner (again, I skip it because I feel like it makes my cheeks look even fuller!) I bugs me so much, because I love playing with makeup :(

      vivelafandom I can relate to you, too. Some days my skin is so weird that when I apply foundation on it its making it look worse. In our case I believe we need to try a lot of products, techniques, chemicals and so on until we find what works best for our skin (in terms of skincare as well as makeup), in order to achieve that flawless looking skin that some women have naturally. After all genes play a huge role. We just have to put more effort than others. :)

      I am so glad Im not the only one who feels this way. My skin is so dry and flaky, but I also have a lot of redness I want to cover up - so Im always conflicted between not covering up the redness, or covering it and then have the foundation cling to all my dry patches. But I started using the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum, because Lisa recommended it for dry skin - and its really good, its my holy grail foundation now, because it covers but it doesnt cling to the dry patches as much - maybe it could help you too 😊

      Make sure you wear very hydrating foundations/concealers. Also I suggest adding in a hydrating serum and/or primer before makeup, since makeup isn't always a miracle worker. Laura Mercier has just come out with a nice hydrating foundation. You could also try Asian bb creams. They have fuller coverage but won't dry out your skin. Missha, SkinFood, etc have great bb creams.

    • @Ruby-gq5pr
      @Ruby-gq5pr 9 років тому +1

      Berni Roach Try using a shade darker in you foundation as this will cancel out redness,and wont sit on top of the skin as much as a lighter shade if you have dry skin-just make sure to blend into your neck and chest with a bronzer.Fake tan (for face) also helps to cancel out the redness.

    • @piranzu
      @piranzu 9 років тому

      Berni Roach I use avene Antirougeurs CALM Soothing Mask before making up, even don't rinse it (leave it on) some times because it helps little peeled "skins" to stay put so they don´t show so much. Also like Moisture Surge Extended by Clinique: I use a thick layer and wait a few minutes until it dries before making up; it keeps skin flawless (like a light mask) and fuses with makeup so it doesn´t show up. Then I put make-up using small touches, dabbing it in carefully not to stress my skin any further. I use Cllinique Redness SOlution makeup, it contains Zinc which calms rosacea. Hope this helps :-)

      Berni Roach Like you I have rosacea on about 80% of my face and find that a medium coverage yellow based foundation - that you can build in areas that need it - works great. The yellow helps to cancel out the redness.

But after watching this and your acne-coverage video, I have realized that I don't need to cover everything up, and that I can use products that won't clog my pores and worsen everything just to cover it up again. I do something like this. I mix a tiny dab of concealer with my moisturizer to even my skin tone, and then I touch up any minor imperfections with concealer by itself. To set everything in place, I use a light dusting of mineral makeup. The result is a light, clean finish. I can't stand covering my whole face in heavy makeup. It just looks so fake and feels even worse. I've noticed that in pretty much every foundation tutorial on UA-cam, these women cake on their makeup, and I'm like "NOOOO, that's more product than I'd use for over an entire week! What are you doing!?".

  • @noebun

    Just watching the first minute and a half and already you tranquilized me.
    I'm practically "new" to foundation (before I never used a base if not a bit of powder on my skin), and knowing that I don't have to cover all my face with that makes me happy, because I luckily have good skin. But looking at the people on the street, and on the internet, it looks like you have to use a lot of foundation or not use it at all.
    So, thank you a lot! Watching you video is making me understand more about makeup

      +sanzyi7 If you haven't seen Jordan Liberty's channel, you might want to take a look. I also have severe dark circles & his tip has helped brighten them up: he recommends a peach/salmon colored (for fair to light skin) corrector first, then concealer that is the SAME shade -- not lighter! -- as your skin tone or one that is just slightly DARKER than your skin tone. If your skin is medium to dark, he recommends using orange corrector. A concealer palette for medium to dark skin with multiple shades would be helpful: you may need to mix more than one shade together. As Lisa always says, I hope this was helpful. It really helped with my circles.

    I never liked my face with full foundation on, some parts look ashy no matter what I do. I tried a light flawless look after watching your acne coverage video. It turned out gorgeous. As simple as it may sound, cover just the areas that need it, most makeup tutorials do exactly the opposite. I felt like my skin could never look great with or without makeup because I did not understand that letting the natural glow show makes the skin look a lot more beautiful.
