finally!!!! you are so talented!! ive got into wanting to make these. my ends werent working out and youvr shown me how!!!! thank you doll!! i always come here to have you show me!!
I just saw this video a few days and I went out yesterday and got all materials to start making these for my husband. I love the look of these more than the fabric kind. My first one so far is not very good , but hopefully with some more practice I'll get the hang of it. Thanks so much for sharing. I would love to learn more from you.
I am so. Inge watching your channel right now. Thank you for showing the process. I am so greatful for you for showing us. I wish I had the attention span to do what you do. Lol. Take my money. That's easier.
You have no idea how happy this made me. :) After missing out on a woolen dread tie on Etsy that I really wanted, thanks to you I can recreate my own now. You're seriously awesome.
@@ReggiesCorner - Oh, I'm way past inspired, Sister, I'm completely STOKED! :D I've been ransacking my craft components for wire and my roving stash, and can't wait to get started. Before I found this, I was envisioning the process in my mind, and thinking I might need to cover the bare wire with something to make the wool adhere better. Have you ever had any issues with the wires working their way through the wool, either initially or over time/with wear?
@@chromeoiran951 Yes, way back in the beginning during my trial and errors I had many wires poke through the wool. But I found with this method as long as you needle felt the ends before and after rolling them it doesnt happen. I have been using the same spiral for my hair for over 2 years now with no issues. :)
Thanks for this - I have locs down to my behind and I've been meaning to make a spiralock for ages. I've got a nice sparkly batt that I plan to use (got it in a club and it'll look SO much better felted than spun!) and I'm going to wrap it with WYS 4 ply Vintage Tinsel yarn! 🥰🥰
You're so wellcome! With locs this long I would suggest a 34" long spiral. It can be tedious to roll ones that long so do some super careful needle felting to try to help the process along before wet felting. And remember go have fun with it!💜💜
Hello, I love this video, it's so useful! Do you have one on making a material spiral lock? I have some material I'd like to use but I can't find anything on making one out of material.
I do not, but it is easier than you would think! Take a square of fabric, lay your wire diagonally corner to corner, fold the fabric in half sandwiching the wire and wrap it tightly. You should fold the ends in before wrapping all the way to the point so the fabric holds itself, then secure it with string! Good luck!! 😁🥰
You are so welcome! The best part about this style of hair wrap is that you can use ANY kind of wire. If its too flimsy just double it up more and keep twisting it up on itself until its sturdy enough for your liking! And yes I do, I offer them in several mini sizes as well as 18" and 25" lengths. I use to offer them in 36" length but that length is difficult to control while felting, so I only make those occasionally upon request now. ❤
How much would you charge me to make one that's about 24" long? I had an accident with a knife that ended up going through my hand and it severed the tendon go my index finger and they still couldn't fix it after 9 surgeries so now I'm stuck with a finger that doesn't bend and touching even the softest cotton sends the nerves in my band into an absolute frenzy of pain. Just watching you toll that on the table gave me chills!!! I have been looking of etsy but they are way to expensive for me to buy.
@@FairMaidenDesigns It sure is hard on the hands, I can't imagine wanting to keep rolling if it gave you pain. If you're on Facebook find me in my group Locked Ladies and we can work something out! 🤗
Hello i love it but does it leave lint on hair or not ? As i have seen people doing it with roven ? I have afro hair. Thanks in advance following from Poland
Hello! As long as you felt the wool roving enough it should not shed into your hair. If you really want to use one of these and are very worried you could always make it the same color as your hair. I personally have not had an issue in over 10 years but better safe than sorry.... Good luck! ❤
By far the best of "how to make Spral locks" video available. Have made four with varying success. Are you able to tell me please what guage wire you use and what soft/hardness the wire is? My question is purely for personal use. Would bonsai florists wire work do you think?
Thank you. I'm so glad you are benefiting from the video! Gauge doesnt really matter, just get what you can and if you need to double it up more. Hardness is something that would be personal preference since you're just making them for yourself. If you want a very flexible wrap, use a soft wire. If you want a more sturdy one use something harder. 💜
@@ReggiesCorner Thank you for the quick reply !!! I'm just out of lockdown in Oz, cannot wait to go to the hardware store. Again , by far the vid on the subject. Thank you so much.
Well, it's a secret so there won't be much info out there unless you really dig deep and practice. I offered classes last year but haven't picked them back up this year. I'd be happy to help you learn if you want to search me out on Facebook, I can do it half the cost of the course if it's just you and I.
@@ReggiesCorner it's the type of wool that you use, considering there are multiple different kinds. I appreciate the offer but someone very kind helped me along the way
@@iswhatitis_ayy no, it's not a specific type of wool, it's the method I created to make them. I can get this texture out of any wools that I have, including merino, because of how I make them.
It's called wool roving, sometimes called wool top. ( the only difference is that top has all the fibers going in one direction, both work amazingly well.)
This is awesome. I LOVE felting. Thank you for this.❤❤
You're welcome! So happy to share!!❤❤

Is the wire aluminum or copper? And should it be 12 gauge?
It doesnt matter! Honestly any type any thicker gauge will work. 😄
Okay! Thanks for the quick reply!
What is that called? Just fabric? Did u dye the fabric or can I buy it with colors ?
It's just wool roving. You can use any fabric you want though, get creative and let me know how it turns out!!
I have an idea for you! After you Bend the ends add a small dot of hot glue to them!

What to you call the material that you’re wrapping around a wire
It is called roving . :)
What kind of dreads are hanging up on the wall behind you?
They are just a bunch of wool dreads that I made in different textures. 🙂
How do you get those textures? I want to make my own pair soon and haven't seen any information about texturizing wool dreadlocks
