Thanks to your videos I was able to fix this exact model of board, and the issue? Well, it was your old favourite, the JTAG connector. Thank you Louis for putting these videos up for free, you're awesome for sharing your knowledge and helping others make a living.
I love people like Louis, that make people realize that apple is not great and that you totally can fix stuff yourself even if the manufacturer says no
@RaLLyKaTz OoO yeah it gets the job done but I just miss the personalization that's possible with Android in iOS... Maybe thats just cause I have always used Android and never really gotten into iOS. I sometimes find myself googling for something that would be pretty obvious for a die-hard iOS user
Someone should program a simulator that can run through all components as though they have failed and calculate how much power would be drawn in each case, then you could just input the power the board draws and see potential failed components that would result in that number :D
In regards to the USPS, contact your Congressional rep or Senator. They will help you get this solved, forward them you videos/evidence and start a real inquiry.
Saw you using alcohol few times, get some CRC QD Electronics cleaner. Stuff works great and I’ve yet to find anything it will damage. Literally have used it to hose down keyboards, motherboards, etc. One of the few products that doesn’t destroy plastics.
I used to be in the service industry as a tech. My boss always cranked out work and I took my time to make it right... all the time. This annoyed the boss, because he could get more done, but had come-backs. My return rate was very low, because I cared to get it right. He was fixated on quantity. In another life, I'd want to be an employee of your's, Louis.

You know voltage on the rail. You should measure voltage at FB pin (should be 1,25) and also calculate divider ratio. This is the most fundamental way of verifying correct operation of feedback loop/FB input. Any other method introduces uncertainty.
Heated area .. it worked -- changed chip and then re-tested when it was still heated - no wonder it worked .. I assume later you tested it cold or chilled. I would have guess it was the Ceramic Cap on top of the resistor chain - and may well have been wrong. Just hope it works when you shot some Freeze Spray on it :) BTW Love the videos.. always entertaining and informative.
Hi, love your videos, but i have a question, im from argentina and i love to rapair cellphones, PC and other stuff. My question is where i can find the PCB and Schematics. thx !
I have a mac book pro. When I turn it on I can hear it working but there is no light, not even on the key board. I took it to Best Buy but I get the feeling that they just want me to spend on a new one. What should I do. Do you have a video on this topic?
Good job Mr. Rossmann. Thanks! If I could, I would put you in charge of something that needs both your skill and attitude. Something like Apple Repair Group. Yeah. And pay you $100K per year to kick their butts into gear. Oh well, we can dream, can't we? Of course, for you, working at apple would be a nightmare! So, are you lucky I can't do that?
Hi Louis, I really enjoy your vids, and have been watching for quite a while. I recently took the dive into hobbyist electronics tinkering, and have purchased the quick rework station you recommend. I'm curious what settings on the quick you typically use that's hot enough to get the solder to flow, but has a low enough airflow to keep the small capacitors and other components from blowing off the board. Any help, or links to videos you've done in the past addressing this issue would be greatly appreciated!. Keep up the great work!
That thinkpad keyboard is so sexy For these to be so expensive, I can't believe how some people treat them. Apple are one of the biggest contributors to ewaste because we arent aloud to fucking fix anything
Probably a large mix between both. They may have some offical Schematics but some would be reverse engineered. Although for this particular video, they look like internal Schematics
I always wondered where to find the board number on my A1466. I seriously covet that thinkpad keyboard. It's like the keyboard on my old idea pad. I could type like the wind on that.
My only complaint is you keep reusing the same Louis-bursts-through-the-tower-of-leaning-MacBook-boxes video. Perhaps you can record another one, in which you ride through a stack of MacBook boxes in the street on your favorite bicycle?

I left because I worked with two stupid kids 18 and 21 and we could not work together as they messed about playing games watching youtube videos and one lad made idle threats and messing about. So the director decided to sack me because it was easier as I had only been their about 4 months. I know it was not fair but I did learn alot. You should have replaced that resister too. Although your multimeter isn't accurate, the reason it goes up overtime is because of temperature since it has to send current to measure resistance. The reason heat fixed it temporarily is because it increased resistance. The moment it goes cold it won't boot.

The board’s model number is irrelevant now, ask the customers where their model numbers are located. The location is now the identifier. Much Apple.
