Great Stuff! I just purchased my first PSG; the GFI student model through Sam Ash. It's really beautiful; even the case! Very affordable; especially when trying to learn something new. I did made sure to get the better model with 4 knee levers. So glad I got a product with such great heritage. What a gifted human being Gene is!.... and the team he chose to make these in the present. Thanks.
I have known Gene for many years from the St Louis ISGC at Scottys Convention. My family lives around the Marshfield area where the GFI shop is now located. While I have a number of other makers pedal steels that are great. In 2021 I was admiring a new SD 10 4x5 Ultra from GFI. The next month my bride surprised me with that steel as a birthday gift. It plays and sounds amazing and is beautiful to look at. I'm more than happy with this gorgeous tone and smooth action steel. At 73 this is likely my last steel guitar.
I've played guitar starting in the third grade, but always loved the sound of pedal steel. I recently purchased my very first pedal steel from GFI. Due to the pandemic, it will take about 7 months to be built. I can't wait. It is a student model guitar 3x4. Think it will be a nice guitar to learn on.
Interesting & Informative! Excellent tone quality! Thanks for sharing this information with those of us in the music business and to the music lover's out there!
I actually work with Gene’s nephew (at least I believe he said It was his relation, they certainly look a lot alike). I’ve heard many stories about Gene and his work with Fender and GFI. His nephew (early-mid 60s) is also a musician, and a really great guy. We struck up an instant close friendship when we started working together because we shared similar music tastes... I don’t play Pedal Steel guitar, but I’ve often thought about buying one and learning, and there’s no doubt if I do, it will be a GFI.

I had my Ultra D-10 built in 2012. It’s been a great guitar and has seen a lot of bar room gigs over the years. I love it.
Got my first GFI in 2001. Second one in 2009. Great playing, reasonably priced guitars. Thank you Gene!

great company, and wonderful guitars, RIP Gene ...
What a great video and great company.
Gene was a master builder. Great guitars. If ever was to go one the road. I would only use a GFI.
