      does the quad cortex have a Traynor YBA300 model ? I want to hear what a guitar sounds like through that, into a wall of 4x12s
      I mean the digital stuff should focus on the termonicly impractical while they are at it.

    Love my SLO 30! I have the Mr. Scary mod in mine which tightens it up incredibly well with the added gain stage. I did a few captures of it with my quad cortex and could not get it sounding right. I have a tonex one pedal ordered which I am excited to record some captures with. In my opinion, the tonex captures amps incredibly accurately. Great video, man!

    There are definitely people claiming they hear things that may or may not be present. I’d be interested to see an EQ analyzer to show the actual frequencies variables if indeed they are present.
    That being said both sound incredible and with some tweaking both could be identical.

    I didn't try and guess which was which, but both times I preferred the actual amp. Have you ever run a capture through a power amp into one of your actual cabs? I do that pretty often and it sounds fantastic (if the capture is good). End of the day, I still prefer my amps but I enjoy the heck out of my QC as well. Fun vid, thanks for sharing!

  • @Folk661
    @Folk661 22 дні тому

    Every time you do these I pick the real amp in the blind test. This is why I haven’t bought a modeller yet. I think the complexity of the dynamics in the low end, as well as the harmonics in the high frequencies are always a tell. It’s like they just fall 5% short.
    Still, great tools though. Thanks for the shootout.

    The captures were much closer, but I expected as much. Aren't there two different SLO 100 Lead models in the QC, tho? I think they're switchable.

  • @JonathanBriseboisLamarche
    @JonathanBriseboisLamarche 24 дні тому

    The SLO is my all time favorite amp. I've owned two original (Pre BAD) and one MKII.... There's something just missing with the QC SLO model. I know they have updated it since the QC launch.. but it's still does not sound or feel like a SLO. Not bashing the QC as some of the other models are actually great. The QC SLO is missing some sizzle and sag.
    For anyone looking for amazing SLO sound on the QC, look at Amalgam captures. They are the closest I've found.

  • @endtimeguitarist

    There is just a life to the actual amp that the core doesn’t have. The word sizzle that John said fit perfect. It actual was a great example of what something digital sounds like. It doesn’t sound bad and although I don’t know the price of a core if it fell beneath a grand I think it would be amazing for practice (especially when you want to preserve those ears). 👂

  • @luca4352
    @luca4352 24 дні тому

    Okay so I'm at 4:12 now and before I watch further heres my thought: There is definitely a difference, I would say A is the SLO and B is the QC. A is a bit smoother and more open in the highest top, the QC adds almost in every comparison I watched a bit of nasty high end at maybe 6-8k I'd guess. And on the chugging B sounds kind of weird compared to A, like a bit buzzy and weirdly compressed, it sounds like it falls apart a bit on the palm muting. I definetly prefer A in this video.
    Okay turns out i was right on the first test, here's my guess on the 2nd:
    This time its way closer and harder, but I think on A you can hear a little more compression on the low chugging note, which blooms through out that one part where it's almost isolated (7:25). So I would say A is the QC, B is the SLO. But it's really hairsplitting at this point, they are really really close now.
    Okay turns out i was wrong on the second test :D, well shows how close they are I guess.

    Neural SLO plugin vs one of these two? Or both? Far more people use the plugin (as it's cheaper, especially during the last week).. it'd be nice to know where it stacks up. The amp will obviously always reign supreme. But QC model, vs plugin vs your capture would be interesting..

  • @RaspySquares
    @RaspySquares 25 днів тому

    @3:53, when you palm mute, that crackle in the low end (if thats even a way of describing it) sounds very "tube" like, on the capture, it sounds far more narrow and "digital" for lack of better terms.
    That crackle sound better from the amp.
    Much closer on the second round.

    • @lorenmorgan1931
      @lorenmorgan1931 25 днів тому

      The dynamic range reduction of the captures cause that. That is the one huge shortcoming of the Neural, is that its captures are only a little better than the Kemper in terms of dynamic range and freq response. Things like Tonex and especially NAM are light years beyond that now, and NAM is a pretty fair step above Tonex even. Same with the Headrush, their captures are on par with Neural. If IK would just come out with an Amplitube/Tonex all in one pedal they would start killing it. With that said, the HX stomp, and two a Tonex pedal could replace an entire rig, at a pretty good price point. Or one could get an opensource pedal with NAM. Otherwise, we should just be thankful that Neural was the first outside of Kemper to offer this technology at a level you could use it live.

  • @_thaaatguy
    @_thaaatguy 24 дні тому

    I guessed right the first time. I thought the low end in A was more real, more dynamic in a way, while B was more stable, like every chug sounded exactly the same. I might be wrong with my observations (I've played with but never had tube amps) but that's what I thought when I listened to the first test. Second time around I was lost. Even the soloed guitars sounded almost exactly the same to me. Yet again, the low end thing was still kinda noticeable for me anyways.

  • @JarickL
    @JarickL 24 дні тому

    First test A had a little more pleasing presence boost but B wasn’t bad. Second test they were too close to call, with the reveal I thought I preferred the amp but that may just have been listening with my eyes.

    IMO the model could have been dialled closer to the real amp, but the real amp certainly sounded better.

    Here’s where I have a problem with these types of comparisons - in an isolated A/B context, yeah, the tube amp is nearly always going to out itself just because of the tone and simplicity of the circuit. As viewers and tone chasers, though, we can easily be led like sheep to believe that nothing by the real thing will do or ever be good enough. For mypurposes, with multiple amp layers, those extreme subtleties start to disappear. Yeah, is good enough for my needs, and I’ve vowed to never spend $3k+ on an amp I don’t need again. I have more than enough options, and much more altruistic things I could do with that kind of money. Don’t be sheep, people
