    Great stories of Reno and Vegas. Always enjoyed playing with you. Hope you are doing well.
    Miss seeing and hearing you on the new sessions. Your sound is what separates you from the rest.
    Take care...

    I built Rick a crystal bell trumpet years ago, and have just finished putting his horns through a retirement bath. One of the finest human beings I have had the privilege to work on his horns, He will do well for 47. Thanks Rick.

    WOW!! He was at Messiah!? That's right up the interstate from where I live. I played trumpet for the original scores to arguably my favorite movie of all time, Blood In Blood Out (Bound By Honor). His solo in the Montana & Wallace track brings me to my knees every time I listen to it.

    I wish I had this video to show and inspire my young trumpet players and other musicians when I taught music. Thanks Rick for your stories, your positive inspiration to other musicians. .....Russell D.

    I can't tell you how much I appreciate Rick's honesty in revealing that he would not be great teacher because everything came easy to him. There are thousands of players who shouldn't teach for the same reason, yet they teach solely for the sake of making money. Then they only take the best and most talented students so that they can take credit for their progress, which would have happened anyway.

    I remember Rick from Harrahs Reno under John Carleton (I was added tenor).....Great guy. He used to called by Bob Mirenda to play with the Sahara Tahoe Orchestra and Harrahs Tahoe under Brian Farnon while he was fairly new in LA...A real RINGER! Loved to have him show up..He mentioned George Graham, whom I worked with in the MGM orchestra, Reno. Does anyone know where he, Joe Davis, are?

    I always watched Dancing With The Stars for the band. I also wondered if Rick Baptist got extra for his screen time. Did he have to get a SAG card to get face time every week? It made me wonder. I always imagined he did and was happy for him if so. It was amazing to see and hear those musicians doing that live every week. Like a tightwire act. I haven't watched DWTS since they got rid of the live band,...and I won't.

    Excuse me Mr Baptist the UK has the greatest brass players in the world, which is why John Williams always used to use UK brass players. Nothing to do with money, just class!

      Since Disney purchased the "Star Wars" franchise the centralized most production in Hollywood. My teacher, Dave Everson is recording "Star Wars VIII" with John now. Dave also plays horn with the Detroit Symphony.

      Sir Vincent I respect all Pro 🎺 players. Esp people like Rick. My hero is Maurice Murphy. He could turn to any style and was very heroic.

    • @sirvincent7263
      @sirvincent7263 7 років тому +1

      I would agree. Maurice's work on the early "Star Wars" film scores is legendary, along with other collaborative projects with John Williams ("Raiders of the Lost Ark" comes to mind). If what I read about his post mortem is true it would appear that he was the victim of medical incompetence / malpractice, which is a tragedy.

    Rick, how sad to hear your off the cuff remarks regarding the standard of London brass players (perhaps I detected a little tongue in cheek!?). I’m sure your fellow countrymen string musicians in LA will be thrilled too, with that vote of confidence!
    Bravo for being able to talk about your blessed career for well over an hour too and letting the world know how much you earn - I feel for those students, some who may have left the building in quite a disorientated frame of mind.
    Andy Crowley - London trumpeter (also on hundreds of films but alas, with with no back end….)

      Andrew, I think you probably misinterpreted some things here. I am very glad that Rick shared what he did. I teach a music industry course, and am glad to share the reality of the financial part of the industry (in LA) with my class. They should be introduced to this reality from aspects around the world. Don't like it? I would love to show them a video of a player from the UK or elsewhere, sharing the same type of information. Please make one based on the reality of things in your area. I'll show it to my class. It isn't a message based on ego. Rather, it is based on reality...which is quite appropriate to discuss. Another thing to consider....a very related question was raised by an audience member, so Rick answered it (in the moment) to the best of his ability, given the fact that he was "on the spot".
