You know when you said you talk to nobody and teach them? I record myself teaching it to myself. “Okay future me! This is the first lecture on MRI’s” When I need to study for midterms, I listen to it again and get taught by my past self. This works so well that I cannot imagine med school without me teaching and being taught by myself. (Wow. What did med school do to me? xD)
Ok now I know am not the only one who do that because I use to ask myself what’s wrong with me that am talking alone but it’s actually active learning method
You know what I LOVE about this video?!. Is that you said "you can learn it all"... you know?... I never thought of that... That I can have the capacity to retain everything if I put my mind and effort into it... AMAZING tips btw... love this video! ps: this is my 1st comment on UA-cam :)))
Thank you for reiterating that it is possible to get through everything...and getting through everything is the easiest way to do well! I don't know but I have some hesitation about getting through everything...feels like I will have nothing more to learn if I am done! But you are absolutely right, we're all capable of getting through everything and getting 100s...I needed that, desperately!!
Thank you for using the word confidence when aiming high. When I talk about my work ethic to other students or family I feel like a jerk and I should be more humble about it. I’m studying pharmacy and some of the other students are happy to get 50% for everything. And they’ll pass, get their degree and be half the pharmacist they should be. Thank you thank you for being a motivated, confident learner. Very inspiring 😊
In one of the psychology courses I took a while back, it was statistically proven that when you teach someone something you learn it best. Awesome study tips! Im going to start to incorporate the visualization process by drawing now!
It's a lot. It's much more than most other majors. But in my opinion it was better than expected. Yes it's a lot. But it's doable if you get your shit together and put in some productive hours. If you spent 3 hours procrastinating of course you wont have 3 hours at night to go to the movies with friend or go out to dinner or just chill and watch your tv show in bed BECAUSE YOU ALREADY WASTED THOSE 3 HOURS! Duh. Also if you're interested in medicine the material is really motivating because it's practical. You never have to wonder like high school physics "wHy dO i nEeD tO kNoW tHiS!"
plot twist: there is a ghost audience and they are about to graduate Ghost Medical School lol .. But in all seriousness, thanks for the tips, Im not in med school but tips do apply t other things.
These all tips are pretty much what I use to study( and am acing things :). I have a white board in my room and I always pretend there are people in my bed who is like big audience not just one person, so that makes me to try my best since there are a lot of people ( invisible tho) attending these presentation ( mock), so these habit makes me good at presentations ever since I was in middle school.
LOOL, I kid you not I would say things like "Welcome class to Intro to Biochem, today we are going to...." Lecturing stuff out is the best way to study
Loved your tips! I have tons of similarities and it's reassuring knowing that I'm doing something partially right and, better yet, how I can enhance my study methods! Thank you so much
Thanks for this ! I’m in my nursing pre reqs. I knew about 90% of the information for my first test, tried some of your tips for the last 10% I was having trouble with and I got a 92/100!! Like you said know the material!!!!
I completely agree with you about the pretend teaching!!! That works soooo so so well for me. And at one point in college I thought that it was so immature of me and I stopped because no one I knew does that, and I started getting bad grades but NO!! I'm going back to it!!!!! It works for me!!! It's not crazy! It's definitely better than getting a bad grade and trying to use a 'mature' study method!
i'm super late to this video lol but YES to studying by teaching someone else, invisible or not! that has helped me so much and im definitely gonna use it going into premed next year!
And I love your videos they motivate me so much to study I used to be a med student but now I became a computer science and technolgy student and ur video actually helps in all aspects of fields; thanks a lot
what I do is, I have mirrors set up in front of my desk, and I keep repeating the concepts or whatever to myself until I feel comfortable with them. I think the common factor to all these similar methods is that we need to hear something out loud to learn it. I've tried studying in a library where I have to study silently, I thought I had everything in my head but I didn't, I need to hear it in order to learn it.
So, do you remember everything you study? Because I feel like after I'm finished with one unit and go onto the next once I forget everything I learn from the Unit before if that makes sense. Like If you were quizzed on something you learned from way beginning of the year, would you remember it all? Or do you feel like you forget some concepts? Also, one of the study habits from your video that I thought was pretty awesome was the teaching an invisible audience. I totally understand what you mean about understanding something more clearly when you teach it to someone. I can definitely relate.
I’m going to incorporate the teaching it out loud to someone else and drawing pictures. I changing my aim to getting 100% on my tests America! Thanks for the encouragement to not settle!!
Hi america. I always speak to an not existing audience wile repeating my study stuff :) that´s so efficient You motivate me so much to study hard. Thank you
1st year medical student former highschool teacher here from Australia! I can relate to so many of these especially at 7:02...I still want my classroom haha! :) You're awesome!! If we were in med school together, I think we would be friends! Subscribed! xx
Do you ever stay up all night? or study throughout some time of the night? Ever since I started college, I've been staying up until 1,2,3 a.m. I totally get the part about not learning so easily at first glance! I'm someone who has to put in twice as much work in to memorizing everything. I'm taking BIOL 111, and we just started stuff along the lines of binary fission. It's only a history type class, nothing very detailed yet! I study about a week and a half to two weeks prior to our chapter exams. What classes were you taking your 1st year of undergrad? By the way, thanks for this video! Very, very helpful!
Henry Sierra I actually haven't slept the night before an exam since I got to medical school 😬 and for my final, I pulled two all nighters! Yeah... I have issues. You're definitely not alone! Sometimes crunch time is all you have to motivate you 😂 and freshman year, I believe I took biology, chemistry, calculus, and drama 😂
We also just finished covering Meiosis and Mitosis. Things like Taxonomy, Genetic Drift, Speciation, Mass Extinction, and Natural Selection are what the exam was on. We also learned about Sex-linked traits with fruit flies and eye color in the lab class. Hmmmm, what else.. Lol. Sorry, I'm very curious.
Okay, great, so I'm not insane when I barely get sleep! Haha. Over here in New Mexico, the Bachelors in Biology doesn't offer Calc or Chemistry until our sophomore year I believe. I feel like NM is so irrelevant to other states that all the classes I'm going to take aren't going to be accepted by med schools, ahhh.
I'm probably going to have to start pulling all-nighters with you 😂 I feel like there's not enough time in each day to study 😂😂 Oh, also! When, in undergrad, did you start shadowing and volunteering? I have the opportunity to shadow a Dermatologist, but I'm not sure when to approach them and ask! 😬
hmm, I started volunteering and shadowing during freshman year. thankfully, my mom is a medical assistant and is good friends with plenty of willing doctors to shadow. So if you have family/friend connections, I would start there! and I would ask asap, there's no time like the present 😊 (I only had 15 hours of doctor shadowing experience, I was never asked about it, admissions knows that doctors are busy!) As a junior, I got an undergraduate lab assistant position by mass emailing every research professor at my university, only 1 professor replied! but thats all I needed 😎 and I started volunteering in random clubs during freshman-sophomore year but didn't really commit to anything until I started volunteering at this hospital I love during junior year. You just search the volunteer section of your surrounding hospitals' websites and most of them could use the help!
Hi America! I'm so glad I bumped into one of your videos :) I am an incoming 1st year medical student here in the Philippines and I am so nervous for my first day!! Anyways, we have same study methods except that I didn't color code much back in college, but will do now in med school cuz it seems a lot helpful!! :)
Amazing medschool video. i learn by teaching but while learning i rarely find someone to teach.ur idea of teaching is brilliant iam gonna try it. thank u.
Loved your tips! Please post more videos like this. Maybe one where you are making the notes and also one where you are teaching your "invisible" audience or a friend? Hehe thanks so much! Much love! :)
Yaas! I use drawings, diagrams (esp for subjects like nursing so I can connect ideas), speaking to an invisible class or just speaking out loud, and writing and rewriting my notes. also reading helps a lot! especially when I read something over and over. ;) -from a first year med student
Hello America, I know this video is very old but I explored your channel just couple weeks ago. Since this video is really helpful for me, cos I always have trouble about studying because I get bored very quickly like after 30 minutes 😐, I liked the video and I couldn't stop myself for leaving comment. I think you are very very sweet, kind, sincere and adorable person. When I watch your videos, like 3 videos in a day :) , I really wanna hug you everytime, I really mean that. Btw, I'm a girl 😆. I am not a medical student, just grad student on Production Management and Marketing, I mean we don't have anything in common but it doesn't make me stop watching you with pleasure. And I learn from you on studying, being dilligence, being enthusiastic and so on. Thank you for your efforts on UA-cam, I know you're always out of time and making and editing videos are not easy things to do. But you make me wanna study and keep going. I wanna take doctorate and now I'm working on that. Watching your videos makes me motivate. Sorry for my English, I haven't spoken English for a very long time 😊 So anyway, I love you and so much love from Turkey! Bye dear 💖
2:50 I'll never forget, it was 2nd semester of year 1, we were studying for our final (CVS, Resp, Renal, Endo/Repro) and one of my classmates came up and asked me "can you explain to me what an enzyme is?", I was at a lost for words. I still to this day hope she was trolling me. However, she said it w/ a straight face so idkkkkk
Heey!! Been watching u for 3 days now and let me just say u r an inspiration and I guess super relatable haha I want to take on medicine too! Thanks for the videos and bonus advices! Love from the Philippiness ❤
Hey America! Just watching this before my finals tomorrow😅 Gonna stay up all night but I have been studying for my exams very much like you. So it actually really does help to teach (my wall). #procrastinating Love ur videos btw💕
Keeping a Word doc of objective answers seems awesome. I'm always amazed that people can make those or Anki cards during lectures themselves, though! 8:46 Also, wow... are those 28 pages all dedicated to the same 1 hour lecture? Or is it for 1 block exam?
Wow you look gorgeous, bu seriously your tips are amazing! I also do rewrite the important things in my notebook, I find that it helps me to retain or memorize the concepts faster and easily. I don't know if you do that but I normally try to visualize or build up in my imagination the process, like for example in biochemistry. I like your teaching tip, but my only problem is that I've been studying mostly in the library and when I'm actually affraid to talk alone people will think I'm crazy, hahaha.
When/how did you decide to go to med school? I'm an freshman undergrad student and am considering med school but am, quite honestly, turned off by the idea because everybody says they want to be a doctor lol.
@ crazy how life changes! started out as a business major while taking pre-med classes with the intention of applying to medical school. ended up taking a year off in the bahamas and now i am halfway through nursing school planning on getting my DNP or PHD. :)
Hey America! I am a 11 year old (6th,grader)girl from India and I absolutely love you ❤️❤️❤️.I do the same things as you but I hate drawing(as I'm not good at it)The video was very helpful 😃😃😃 Thanks
My biggest issue is that I fall asleep quickly and I can't have much coffee for my skin is acne prone so I never complete my chapters on time especially biochem which I keep pending what can I do?
The Office Fangirl you won't believe I consume at least 4 glasses of it everyday but to no avail though I know it has some caffeine, may be due to my subconscious mind believes only coffee can do wonders 😂idk
Hello Beautiful !! Where did you get the SNOW DROP trick from? I would love to know about other tricks, that's primarily why I asked :) I'm currently studying for MCAT. I was taught that snow drop.
I implemented the trick about shooting for a 100 and not just an A when I studied for my first Anatomy&physio exam and got a 90%! Definitely, believe I will get an 100% my next exam!
I would recommend Lecturio as well as it massively increased my academic performance. It's a platform for medical students which provides everything you need for USMLE and MBBS. I use it for USMLE and honestly, it's the best investment I made so far.
Omg😂😂the actively teaching, pretending you are teacher is basically how I study ,!! Btw I'm 5th year medical student and I hope I can graduate soon like u😍🥰
I’m 14 and I just stared my freshmen year but I’m using these tips to study because my school assigns (if you include having to study) 3-4 hours of homework a night and I have 2 hours of practice every day.
(Wow. What did med school do to me? xD)
I do the exact same thing!
This is such a good idea, I should give it a try!!!
Wow thanks!
That is a very cool way to study! :)
Ok now I know am not the only one who do that because I use to ask myself what’s wrong with me that am talking alone but it’s actually active learning method
Hi America! I did everything you said and got a 94 on my biology test 😁😁😁
omgosh!!! awesome!! :D
You know what I LOVE about this video?!. Is that you said "you can learn it all"... you know?... I never thought of that... That I can have the capacity to retain everything if I put my mind and effort into it... AMAZING tips btw... love this video!

I’m an engineering student and I have no interest in biology or med school but I still binge watch all your vlogs 😂
Dani Broderick haha same!! all i do is maths stats and physics but i still watch her colour code anatomy diagrams
Thank you for using the word confidence when aiming high. When I talk about my work ethic to other students or family I feel like a jerk and I should be more humble about it. Brandon Albalat wow! Good to know. Now I feel less crazy 😅
You should do a video about what to expect in med school like hows the lecture the work load how much free time you have etccc etccc
It's a lot. It's much more than most other majors. But in my opinion it was better than expected. Yes it's a lot. But it's doable if you get your shit together and put in some productive hours. Probably the best studying video out there on medical school, and I've seen plenty! Thank you so much for this!
plot twist: there is a ghost audience and they are about to graduate Ghost Medical School lol .. But in all seriousness, thanks for the tips, Im not in med school but tips do apply t other things.
LOL!!!
Red lipstick looks so good on you! Loved the video❤
I get soo excited seeing your new videos pop up! Keep killing the game! #goals
It's so satisfying seeing your anatomy notes!! I'm so happy I discovered your channel! :D
this actually worked my whole life i love this video watching this since 2016 ,17 ,19 and again in 2020

Great tip! I'm not so good in presentations I get so nervous that it sometimes ruins them!
Thanks! just pretend like you are in a big hall. just giving a speech about what you recently invent or created and you will see the difference!
I will try that! Thanks :D
LOOL, I kid you not I would say things like "Welcome class to Intro to Biochem, today we are going to...."
Lecturing stuff out is the best way to study

IKR my grandma thinks there is something wrong with me when she hears me studying. :)
god bless your energy america

hands down BEST "study tip" video i've seen on youtube thus far! such great examples. many thanks from a pre-med bio major!
definitely one of my favorite UA-cam videos ! Very helpful thanks!!
I literally watch your videos when I’m off track with school working 3 jobs and finding time to study!! 🤯
I completely agree with you about the pretend teaching!!! That works soooo so so well for me. I absolutely love stationary and the aesthetics of a pretty workspace but I LOVE how you just get on with it. True surgeon haha!
I also talk it out by myself it helps a lot. Good video, keep it up :)
Thank you so much! I'm in high school and I was having problems with biology, but I'm going to use your study technique from now on. 😊
i'm super late to this video lol but YES to studying by teaching someone else, invisible or not! that has helped me so much and im definitely gonna use it going into premed next year!
YOU ARE SUCH AN INSPIRATION! BECAUSE OF YOU, I IMPROVED MY AVERAGE SOOOO MUCH! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
PLEASE, FILM MORE VIDEOS LIKE THIS!!!

Yamelis try making notes on each unit. ... once U feel u don't remember that unit, revise them before starting ur day
thank you so much for deciding to make youtube videos! you inspire me so much!! & I get so excited when you post a new video!! :)
I wish you were my friend to study with..so much positive energy.
I’m going to incorporate the teaching it out loud to someone else and drawing pictures. I changing my aim to getting 100% on my tests America! Thanks for the encouragement to not settle!!
I love this video soooo much, I love love love the fact that you say it’s possible to know everything !!!
you are my inspiration, seriously! thank you for this video, hope you keep doing really good :)
Thank you for hard work uploading videos and I admire your hard work studying and being a medical students thank!😙
Hi america. I always speak to an not existing audience wile repeating my study stuff :) that´s so efficient
You motivate me so much to study hard. Thank you

You're so extremely inspirational!!

I REWRITE MY NOTES TOO!!!!!!! It sticks well when I read what I write ❤️
Me too...my fellow students keep telling me writing is a waste of time but it helps me a lott
I loved this video.
Hi America! I'm so glad I bumped into one of your videos :) I am an incoming 1st year medical student here in the Philippines and I am so nervous for my first day!!

Amazing medschool video. i learn by teaching but while learning i rarely find someone to teach.ur idea of teaching is brilliant iam gonna try it. thank u.
i loved the honesty and the spirit that smile and tongue is a killer😍
I needed this like 10 years ago in Anatomy. Oh well.
Thank you..this video was really insightful. Also I'm gonna try out the talking to an invisible audience trick.
Jessica K haha good luck!:))
Thank you for these tips. You inspire me !
These tips are the best. Literally, they are all great help and I've always used them. Kuddos to you Ms. America! Thank you so much. :)

I used to write everything 3-5 times. I should now, but I have a weird class schedule and don't as often as I used to.
Great tips!! Thank you!
You should give more tips but best video. You are inspiration and motivation.
Heey!! Been watching u for 3 days now and let me just say u r an inspiration and I guess super relatable haha I want to take on medicine too! Thanks for the videos and bonus advices! Love from the Philippiness ❤

wya now ? what did u decide
I hope you’ve graduated and figured it out 4 yrs later!!!😊

Who wouldn’t score an A with such hard work and commitment...
anybody can do it, problem is putting in the work ...
This is so helpful even though I’m not in medical school! Haha
Thank you so much!!!
I do all the same things!!!! First year medical student as well :) Good luck with everything!!
The thing of explaining to an imaginary class is the same thing i am doing from last 2 years.
Hey America! I am a 11 year old (6th,grader)girl from India and I absolutely love you ❤️❤️❤️.I do the same things as you but I hate drawing(as I'm not good at it)The video was very helpful 😃😃😃 Thanks
I am a chemistry student and am addicted to your vlogs.
Never heard about "stress eater".. Haha i am exactly like this 😬
Thanks for your advise it helped me alot all of them
thank you so much for the tips♥️
My biggest issue is that I fall asleep quickly and I can't have much coffee for my skin is acne prone so I never complete my chapters on time especially biochem which I keep pending what can I do?
Syed Mehreen what about a more natural form of caffeine like green tea? I think that might work
The Office Fangirl you won't believe I consume at least 4 glasses of it everyday but to no avail though I know it has some caffeine, may be due to my subconscious mind believes only coffee can do wonders 😂idk
Syed Mehreen lol idk what you should do
LOVE YOU!!!
wow ...really you helped me a lot 😍
I legit watch your vids to just get up and revise
Great video, thanks! Have you tried Anki? I'm not sure which one to use. Most vloggers seem to prefer it.
Hello Beautiful !! Where did you get the SNOW DROP trick from? I would love to know about other tricks, that's primarily why I asked :) I'm currently studying for MCAT. I was taught that snow drop.
ahahahaha omg i do that to ! I sometimes ask my mom to hear my informantions tho but mostly i just pretend i am teaching it to someone :'D
Love this thank u!
I implemented the trick about shooting for a 100 and not just an A when I studied for my first Anatomy&physio exam and got a 90%! Definitely, believe I will get an 100% my next exam!
active learning ftw! new subbie :D
Like the teaching to the "class" I idea thumbs up
I would recommend Lecturio as well as it massively increased my academic performance. It's a platform for medical students which provides everything you need for USMLE and MBBS. I use it for USMLE and honestly, it's the best investment I made so far.
Intercalated....😁😁😁😁you're such a med student. Lmao.
Oh my gawdd, you so harshadanzzz! XD
Omg😂😂the actively teaching, pretending you are teacher is basically how I study ,!! Btw I'm 5th year medical student and I hope I can graduate soon like u😍🥰
Love your red lipstick- beautiful!
I’m 14 and I just stared my freshmen year but I’m using these tips to study because my school assigns (if you include having to study) 3-4 hours of homework a night and I have 2 hours of practice every day.
