I recently had Robotic Radical Nephrectomy on my right kidney. This video is spot on in every detail. The surgery is quite painful but only for the first day or so. I was able to return to work less than two weeks later (with not pain at all I might add). After three weeks, I can barely see the scars at all. I'm not happy to have had to have this done but the surgery itself is really nothing to fear. Of course the diet they will put you on for the rest of your life sucks but that's another video!
ClapsyPlapsy the kidney removal went fine…It’s been 9 months. It’s the colon perforation and abdominal muscle /intestinal/psoas muscle I am still dealing with. All I can say is that you make sure your digestive and bowel systems are empty empty empty. If your surgery is uncomplicated expect some pain for a few days…IV dilaudin is your friend. You should be back to yourself in a few weeks to a couple of months. I was in an operating room, ICU, progressive care, physical rehab and hooked up to an antibiotic IV at home for a total of 5 months. I am still open in the abdomen and will go under the knife for the 6th time in 10 months to recut the stalled wound and restitched to get it to heal properly. Just remember to hydrate until you feel like you’re going to float away and take a lot of shits 💩💩💩💩💩. The last thing you want is a perforated _________ It was my bowel that blew and I’m still dealing with everything healing. You will be okay. What happened to me is rare. Just take it easy until your surgery and real easy until you heal. No heavy lifting, heavy foods and dress loose and comfortable. Get a bottle of Bactine spray. Spray your staples with it to cool them off and whatever you do, DON’T SCRATCH THEM! Good luck to you, I am sending good mojo your way. You will be fine. My kidney surgery healed beautifully in about 6-8 weeks. Oh and a heads up, the scar is a gnarly one. Don’t be surprised when you get your first look. Keep me posted. Blessings to you
@@stephaniekerr Thanks so much for this message, Stephanie, and your well wishes! I had hoped to reply before my surgery but ran out of time, unfortunately. I was lucky in that my surgery went very well; it was a 4+ hour operation to remove a 9.5cm tumour, along with my left kidney. I only spent one night in hospital and was cleared to go home about 24 hours after the operation concluded. I'm now three days into my recovery and feel like the worst of the pain and discomfort is already over. I'll be taking your advice in hopes of making a strong recovery, rest assured! I do hope your upcoming surgery goes well and you can complete the process of fully healing. There's no joy in contending with pain and ill-health and it sounds like you've already contended with too much. All the best in the days, weeks and months ahead!
@@ClapsyPlapsy all best and hope you’re recovering. As I’ve said mine’s early days yet though I believe I don’t have to have strict diet. Having Catheter removed after having mytomycin flushed through about 2/3 hours (precautionary procedure) and hopefully that’s the end of this treatment. Do not I believe have to have any chemo in the future. Regards
I’ve just had robotic radical nephrectomy operation- 5 days ago and still experiencing discomfort mainly from lower wound taking out kidney. But it’s early days and I’m taking pain relief co-codamol and paracetamol. This makes me constipated and I’m taking liquid lactose. Petrified of being constipated so taking duculax so I don’t get bound up. So all in all am doing as well as expected and I know I’ve got to have TWOC with mitomycin flushed through and the hopefully have my catheter removed.

I have to go through this in a couple of weeks. Even after this video, I am still scared shitless.
@@stephaniekerr How did your surgery go? I’m having mine in six days.
