Honeycomb cells are always hexagonal shaped, and most people think honeybees intentionally choose this pattern, but that’s not entirely accurate. Bees actually start with circular cells made of wax to store honey, and the hive’s temperature is naturally high due to the bees’ body heat. This heat, over time, softens the wax, and the cells naturally settle into hexagonal patterns, because hexagons are the most efficient arrangement. You can see a similar effect with soap bubbles, one bubble is round, but as you blow more, they press together and form hexagons.
