As a programmer, I feel very at home being on UA-cam and having something explained to me in that accent. Glad non-programmers can have this experience, too.
I came here to try and learn cadences for my upcoming ABRSM exam but fell for your amazing vocal improvisations. Honestly Jason, I could listen to you singing all day! Thank you 🙏🏽
Your "epic cadence" is also known as the "Mario cadence" because in the computer game Supermario it was used for an achievement. As you explained, it is three major chords in a row a whole tone apart.
Minute I hear epic cadence with Eb chord progression reminded me of Batman back in the 90s. Seal did kiss from a rose with similar sounding chords. Very well covered topic. I always only learnt the first three
Awesome! Very much appreciated… Would love a video devoted to your ability to play so beautifully without ever looking at the Keyboard unless you are specifically explaining a fingering sequence or a chord formation (Besides the fact that I’m sure it took you many, many years to perfect) Any, tips, pointers, building practices , etc…
Don't know how I can teach something like that Robin! But Chord Inversions will really help along with playing with a purpose. Following the singer, drummer or choir! Will plan a lesson!
Dear Jason, when you sing the word Amen whilst playing a Plagal cadence when demonstrating the end of a hymn you use two differing notes. In contrast, in churches in England I am more familiar with using one note, the tonic of the melody’s scale, on both syllables of the word. This repeated tonic emphasises the end of the hymn as much as the harmony and the text does. The combination is probably a bit too familiar and exaggerated for modern tastes but I think that is probably why the cadence also came to be known as the Amen one. Thank you for so much content of such high quality and for the joy of listening to your beautiful, pure singing and melodies.
Jason, I’ve been struggling with certain phrases for writing. I was completely lost in regard to the Epic and Modern Pop. I’ve been a plagiarizing blues/rocker most of my life. Thanks for showing us the road map with this and all your videos. Cheers my friend. 🎶🎼🎸
Thank you..!! yes it makes the progression beautiful and expands..it more.. adds melody to it..otherwise 1,5,64, becomes boring.. and yes these smaller sections make the whole big thing
Sure Reina! A good option might be to consider our Theory module at the music school. We cover every single concept in a structured & detailed manner : www.nathanielschool.com
i told people i didnt need to know theory but i got no respect. I knew i didnt like the minor 4 chord before i knew what it was. I just like nice sounding things where the focus is on other things than sophisticated chords. I do dig lydian though and how to emphasize it when i get to C hord in G major. Then i know im crackin when i play that lol
@@nathanielschool I was practicing chromatic movements and at the end of the phrase I asked my self what cadence could it be..i can't figure stuff out..what would be c to f# cadence i know its Aug4 or dim 5

Oh yes! Should probably be called the Mario cadence! But if you observe, I'm ending the last chord on the Major right?
This lesson is priceless! Great video, Jason

love this tutorial Jason :)
A question though, do all these cadences work with minor scale too? I mean the main ones - authentic, plagal, half etc.
Of course. I think I mentioned this either in this lesson or some others on our channel

I think the use of "picardy third" could also be part of this video lesson. Picardy third is also a kind of candence
Yeah. I don't use it that often. Just wanted to focus on the ones I use a lot. But there are quite a few more. Even the Phrygian one is awesome!
Excellent lesdon
Thanks Tzod!

Solid gold lesson Jason, thanks!
Glad you liked it Jonny!
Sir could you add a inversion in 3:58 for the root cord instead really moving your hand. kashyap here
Yes of course Kashyap. You should try Inversions for most of these transitions
I always knew "a kiss from a rose" was epic 😂
🤘🏽
Sir I can't understand cadence on chromatic scale can you help me
Not sure I follow your question? I didn't teach the chromatic scale in this lesson no?

nice
Thanks a ton Patrick!
Thanks Patrick!
What you call epic cadence, isn't it what's more commonly called chromatic mediants ???
Either way, nice video, quite informative, thanks a lot. 👍
Next time write the chords on the screen ❤
It's written no? Or else, there are the notes as well!
C major 7th = C E G B
C minor 7th = C D# G A#
C7 =??
🤔🤔🤔🤔🤨🤨
C E G Bb (Basically a Major Chord with a FLAT 7). Watch this lesson: ua-cam.com/video/qUqFj7cbq8w/v-deo.html
@@nathanielschool thank you sir
