I first came across this phenomena in my teens at a library in my lunch break. I was browsing the books and became aware of people looking at the newspapers so I sat listened and after a few minutes a tranquil calmness appeared. This has never left me. I thought it was just me until now 40 years later.
Meditation can involve listening or staring at an object. They must somehow be related.
