The Olympic Committee should seriously rethink pulling someone out for a false start after 4 years of training. That's a hefty chunk of one's life. They are obviously anxious and want to get it on and over with. Methinks there should be, at least, one general first warning rule.
I think they previously had a two warning rule? I was watching some documentary on a guy who got two false starts and was disqualified on the second. He was given a warning on the first. This was in the 80s or 90s, I believe.
I don't understand why they pull a person out that has been training for that event for 4 years...4 YEARS just because they accidentally started earlier. I mean, to me it looked like she went on the sound! When it buzzed she took off before anyone else...but it was on the sound.
+Liam Hammons So what there pros, pros can make mistakes too. And of course they know the rules. I still think it's stupid to take them out of the whole Olympics over one mistake they had on one race.

Hi, I'm seeing a lot of comments about the false start and posted this comment of the video, but I thought I'd paste it here in case you're interested (: To clear things up, the technology they use in these competitions can tell if the athlete starts before the gun. It's not up to debate. Unfortunately at this level of competition, it's truly a mind game as much as a physical feat. To be good in the Olympics, you can't just be super fast, etc., you also have to "play the game", or cater to the format. Same with exams, which are a good comparison. To do great on exams, you can't just be super smart, you also have to be good at the exam format (dealing with stress, time management during the test, strategy for recording answers, etc.). Athletes at this level prepare for this stuff. They know the consequences of a false start. As much as it pains me to see their anguish when this happens, I understand that it must be this way. Imagine if false starts were met with second chances. Athletes wouldn't worry as much about making the mistake and many more people would start falsely, not because they're cheaters, but simply because they're so nervous to start right at the gun, just like this athlete was. This would mean all the other athletes would also be halted. This is not fair to the other athletes because they go thorough the mental stress and physical strain of a race start only to be stopped short and made to do it again. Now imagine this happened multiple times because of multiple people. That's why there can be no second chances. And here's a related trivia point. Each of the athletes are fed the sound of the gun through their own separate speaker behind them. This happens in all these extremely close races where every millisecond matters, like sprinting, hurdles, swimming, etc. The reason for this is that if a single speaker emits the sound, each athlete will hear it at a different time due to the time takes to reach each of them at different distances from the source. Meaning that the athlete furthest away is at a disadvantage. This used to be the case when a real gun was used, for example.

I really don't understand what happened. Can someone explain it to me? I know some people in the comments are saying that it was the buzzer for the false start that went off, not the start gun, but if you look at the video she goes AFTER the buzzer sounds. I even played it in .25X speed and she didn't move at all until there was the loud noise. How would they "know" to sound the buzzer if she literally hadn't moved a muscle? That literally just doesn't make any sense. Please, someone, watch it in slow-mo and then explain to me how it is possible the buzzer was pressed and why the French athlete was eliminated. Also, I agree that her being immediately disqualified was harsh (especially for something like this which was not "blatant" at all, really).
i still watch these on the daily and it frustrates me that a lot of you don't understand what happened. that buzzing noise was NOT the signal for the race to start, it was a signal that someone false started. those were not fast reflexes, she was WAAAYY ahead. she anticipated the shot too much. the shortest time possible for a human relfex is barely 0.1 seconds and what she did wasnt that, she literally jumped the gun xoxo, track athlete

To clear things up, the technology they use in these competitions can tell if the athlete starts before the gun. And here's a related trivia point. Each of the athletes are fed the sound of the gun through their own separate speaker behind them. Miley's World nope bud
play it at 0.25 speed it's sad but she did :(
I’m pretty sure the buzzer means false start and the gunshot is a actual start , she went off before the gun
The woman start early, but this is a stupid rule to be disqualified just because it was a mistake like that, there should be a second chance
OH MY GOD I wasn’t expecting her to be this fast!! Impressive
Harper finished that and was like “wow good warm up !”
anyone else's stomach sinking when theyre lined up cayse u know how scary it is😂
USA so nice at everything

And then there's me just sitting here being unathletic on a couch
They were so fast😮🎉
How embarrassing for her. She had amazingly fast reflexes.
She didn't she tried to predict the gun shot but was early.Clearly cheated
@@anej6272 no she didn't cause if you play in 25x you can see she went right on buzzer. They cheated okori
They use technology to detect at the Olympic
omg they are so fast I did hrdles in my time was 18:36
We're close mine is 18:63
I run track too
Tyteonna Maloid mines like 18:22 rip
17.49
I ran mine in 7:32
i still watch these on the daily and it frustrates me that a lot of you don't understand what happened. that buzzing noise was NOT the signal for the race to start, it was a signal that someone false started. those were not fast reflexes, she was WAAAYY ahead. she anticipated the shot too much. the shortest time possible for a human relfex is barely 0.1 seconds and what she did wasnt that, she literally jumped the gun
xoxo, track athlete
Who is watching in 2017

OMG. Australian girl nailed it. Well done girl 🙌🙌🦘🦘
*me*- *sweats rapidly*.
*Chokes on pop tart during race*
I put it in 0.25× and she did not false start. She just has really good reflexes
No no she definitely did that buzzer also isn't the start signal the gun going off is the buzzer was just to signal to the other athletes that someone had false started
