  • The James Cotton Band, fronted by the legendary James "Superharp" Cotton, was a powerhouse in the world of blues music. Born on July 1, 1935, in Tunica, Mississippi, James Cotton's journey from humble beginnings to becoming a blues harmonica virtuoso is a testament to his immense talent
and dedication to the genre. Cotton's love for the blues was ignited at a young age when he first heard the harmonica. His passion for the instrument led him to learn from blues harmonica greats like Sonny Boy Williamson II, who mentored him during his formative years. Cotton's talent on the
harmonica quickly became evident, and he soon found himself performing with some of the biggest names in blues, including Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters. In 1966, James Cotton formed his own band, the James Cotton Band capturing the essence of Chicago blues. The James Cotton Band
released a series of acclaimed albums, including "High Compression" and "100% Cotton”. Cottons harmonica work could be heard on recordings by artists like Janis Joplin and Led Zeppelin. He gained multiple Grammy nominations. James Cotton continued to perform and tour tirelessly until his passing on March 16, 2017. This song was performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival on July 8th, 1983 at the Garden Pavilion.

When Mr. Cotton and Matt "Guiter" Murphy played together they were the tightest band in the business! I'm not sure who's playing guitar in this line-up.
