Tbh I think Leif and Ava would be cute together,he *was* the first one to some what connect with Ava and they share the same type of story and he seemed really happy when she said she won't leave him alone . My heart >w
The way he seems to act now, I think his killing intent is to distract his grief and loneliness, probably partly killing off the things that has grief-stricken him.
Oh my gosh leifs backstory sounds so sad and it seems like he hides his emotions by acting tough and being competitive but deep down he just wants a friend to trust 😭
Obviously none of this is cannon, but I have a theory about Leif's backstory. I think that before Leif trained to be an assassin, he was probably a lot nicer. But during the training, he became a different person. He hated the idea of killing at first, and didn't want to take lives, but he knew he would be seen as a weakling if he acted as he felt. Therefor, he pretended to love killing for years, until he became so familiar with it he began to find it thrilling. Having grown up in a world where you can only survive if you're strong and don't hesitate, he gave up trying to fight it. But it worked too well, he thought that he could just destroy everything easily because he'd been killing people without thinking for so long. Even when Asch hired him as a guard, and he was taught of warrior's honor, he was too far gone at that point. Unfortunately, this made him a very useful and strong guard, which pushed him even farther into the idea of being able to solve all problems with killing. When Leif was chosen to accompany Asch on her journey to Earth, he knew at that point killing willy-nilly was doing him so much good he was one of the best guards. After all, he had been chosen for something so important almost no one knew about it. Once he got the Earth, he was unfamiliar with how peaceful it was, and when he met Ava, his first instinct was to kill her, so he tried doing so many times. Yet, he was stopped every time. Since killing Ava was delayed, he thought he mind as well get to know her to... to learn her weaknesses! At least, that's what he told himself. But he actually already knew all of her weaknesses. After a while, he found himself getting closer to her. So once he learned he could marry her to gain power, he was relieved to know there was another use for her than killing her. Although, he still thought he wanted to kill her, even though deep down... he actually wanted to protect her. But, as I said before, he was too far gone. He was so excited about having Pierce tell him he was allowed to kill Ava, he didn't even stop to think about what it would be like without her. (In case anyone forgot, this happened in the hot tub thingy.) But when he saw her red face with dead eyes, he knew something was wrong. In that moment, he felt confused. He wanted to know what happened to her. He'd gone from wanting nothing more than to kill her, to wanting nothing more than to keep her alive. After Asch knocked him to the other side of the room, he was more confused than ever, usually he would have heard someone before they tried to attack him. His thoughts were cut off by Asch's angry tone. Leif wasn't listening, and quickly replied to Asch, unable to stop himself from sounding desperate and confused. "Sh-she's already dead!" Asch glared at him, but Leif was too shaken to glare back. "What the--it was you, wasn't it?!" Asch accused. Part of Leif wanted to say something like, "How dare you?! I would NEVER kill her!" but he knew he'd be lying. Plus, it'd make him sound weak and out-of-character. So, all he said was: "I wish!" He was more confused than ever. A moment ago, he really DID want to kill her. He was about to kill her without a second thought, and he'd enjoy it, too. However, that changed in a moment. He knew he was only telling a half-truth when he said "I wish." Fast forward a bit, Ava had woken up thanks to Mrs. Oats. However, he still wanted to make sure the sickness didn't kill her. After all, if anything was going to kill her, it would have to be HIM! He didn't want to loose his chance of killing her because something else took it first. He told himself, but part of his knew he just wanted her to survive. So, he kept her awake that night. He was too afraid to let her sleep, as he kept imagining she wouldn't wake up after she'd already been asleep for days under Mrs. Oats' care. Despite all that, he enjoyed keeping her up. It annoyed her, and he loved seeing her annoyed. A while later, when he was chosen to go to the store with her, he couldn't have been more happy. He didn't like the idea of someone else getting to do anything to win her over. However, he knew that Ava was on an important mission. (Not THAT important if you ask me.) So, he wanted to keep her on task. But he also didn't want to avoid conversation when she asked him about his story. He knew he'd somewhat like to share it with her. After telling her the story, he made sure not to get lost in his thoughts and reminded her of the mission at hand. Going back to Ava's apartment, he wondered what Ava was thinking.

Obviously none of this is cannon, but I have a theory about Leif's backstory. I think that before Leif trained to be an assassin, he was probably a lot nicer. But during the training, he became a different person. He hated the idea of killing at first, and didn't want to take lives, but he knew he would be seen as a weakling if he acted as he felt. Therefor, he pretended to love killing for years, until he became so familiar with it he began to find it thrilling. Having grown up in a world where you can only survive if you're strong and don't hesitate, he gave up trying to fight it. But it worked too well, he thought that he could just destroy everything easily because he'd been killing people without thinking for so long. Even when Asch hired him as a guard, and he was taught of warrior's honor, he was too far gone at that point. Unfortunately, this made him a very useful and strong guard, which pushed him even farther into the idea of being able to solve all problems with killing. When Leif was chosen to accompany Asch on her journey to Earth, he knew at that point killing willy-nilly was doing him so much good he was one of the best guards. After all, he had been chosen for something so important almost no one knew about it. Once he got the Earth, he was unfamiliar with how peaceful it was, and when he met Ava, his first instinct was to kill her, so he tried doing so many times. Yet, he was stopped every time. Since killing Ava was delayed, he thought he mind as well get to know her to... to learn her weaknesses! At least, that's what he told himself. But he actually already knew all of her weaknesses. After a while, he found himself getting closer to her. So once he learned he could marry her to gain power, he was relieved to know there was another use for her than killing her. Although, he still thought he wanted to kill her, even though deep down... he actually wanted to protect her. But, as I said before, he was too far gone. He was so excited about having Pierce tell him he was allowed to kill Ava, he didn't even stop to think about what it would be like without her. (In case anyone forgot, this happened in the hot tub thingy.) But when he saw her red face with dead eyes, he knew something was wrong. In that moment, he felt confused. He wanted to know what happened to her. He'd gone from wanting nothing more than to kill her, to wanting nothing more than to keep her alive. After Asch knocked him to the other side of the room, he was more confused than ever, usually he would have heard someone before they tried to attack him. His thoughts were cut off by Asch's angry tone. Leif wasn't listening, and quickly replied to Asch, unable to stop himself from sounding desperate and confused. "Sh-she's already dead!" Asch glared at him, but Leif was too shaken to glare back. "What the--it was you, wasn't it?!" Asch accused. Part of Leif wanted to say something like, "How dare you?! I would NEVER kill her!" but he knew he'd be lying. Plus, it'd make him sound weak and out-of-character. So, all he said was: "I wish!" He was more confused than ever. A moment ago, he really DID want to kill her. He was about to kill her without a second thought, and he'd enjoy it, too. However, that changed in a moment. He knew he was only telling a half-truth when he said "I wish." Fast forward a bit, Ava had woken up thanks to Mrs. Oats. However, he still wanted to make sure the sickness didn't kill her. After all, if anything was going to kill her, it would have to be HIM! He didn't want to loose his chance of killing her because something else took it first. He told himself, but part of his knew he just wanted her to survive. So, he kept her awake that night. He was too afraid to let her sleep, as he kept imagining she wouldn't wake up after she'd already been asleep for days under Mrs. Oats' care. Despite all that, he enjoyed keeping her up. It annoyed her, and he loved seeing her annoyed. A while later, when he was chosen to go to the store with her, he couldn't have been more happy. He didn't like the idea of someone else getting to do anything to win her over. However, he knew that Ava was on an important mission. (Not THAT important if you ask me.) So, he wanted to keep her on task. But he also didn't want to avoid conversation when she asked him about his story. He knew he'd somewhat like to share it with her. After telling her the story, he made sure not to get lost in his thoughts and reminded her of the mission at hand. Going back to Ava's apartment, he wondered what Ava was thinking.
