That struck me too. He has the right idea regarding gifts, that they're not something you're owed but something you get as and when there's a reason, and if you've earned it.
I used to tell my kids when they were young, "I want, doesn't get." If they asked for sweets at the supermarket, the answer was no. (Money wasn't something I had much of, especially when they were young.) However, if they behaved themselves in the shop, and didn't ask, I'd find a way to get them _something,_ to show how I was happy with them and their behaviour. They did pretty well with me! It paid off in the end because out of the four of them, not one threw any tantrums throughout their childhoods, including their teenage years, if we said we couldn't afford to get them what they wanted. They just accepted it and were grateful for what they did get. I'm so proud of them for that, even now the eldest is 32!
Little Rowan is going to go the same way as mine, I think. Those who have pets have rescued them all. I am sure that Rowan's insistance in knowing where Pumpkin was from was because he wanted to rescue a pup, not spend a fortune at a bad breeder (or even a good one!) He's definitely going to be a responsible young man, and he's got the best friend he's ever going to have. I couldn't be happier for him

Although I'm 60 I remember every detail from when I was 3+ and my dad brought home my best friend-even the jacket he was wearing because he hid her inside, zipped against his chest. When he pulled her out-wow, what a moment!
Penny* died after my freshman year of college. Grateful to say my dad is still alive and super sharp at 95, although he doesn't remember the jacket lol.
*For those my age, Penny was named for the "Lost in Space" character.

A boy & his dog-I think my heart is about to explode!!!! When my own son was about Rowan’s age, he REPEATEDLY asked for a “BABY SISTER”-unfortunately, that couldn’t happen. BRAVO Dad, massive respect to you!!!!!

This was such a heartwarming video on so many levels...from the dad recognizing that he has an exceptional kid, to Rowan keeping his word, as well as Rowan's impressive narrating skills. That wee lad is so far ahead of his age and it's clear that his father is doing a proper good job at raising him!

Can we talk about how rad Rowan is? Like his letter was particularly wholesome and very well composed, and it shows politeness and love, and feels so genuine. Also the way he read it aloud was very nicely performed too. Truly a special kid indeed.

Okay this is a little off topic but as an English teacher I am so impressed with this young man's grammar, adjectives and sentence structure! If I were a parent I would have gifted him a doggy just for being such a good English student 😂😊
Since i found an English teacher, i just want to ask some questions. First of all, English is not my native language but i can understand every bit of it. I can watch movies or series without the subtitles. My problem is just speaking. It really bothers me a lot, i can understand everything but can't speak fluently. How can i improve it. I'm open to any advice. Thanks in advance.

What a sweet kid.he was excited but didn't want to startle the puppy, so he remained composed. He also really appreciated it and was like "dad, but I just got a gift" ❤what a good kid. I wish I could like this a hundred times. And yes he does seem responsible!

Is it just me, or does it seem like kids these days are so much more caring and empathetic than before? Like one of my son's friends mothers said my son helped her son be accepted into the friend group when her son was new at school. And I hear stories about how all of the students always help each other when they're studying in class. I hear about some bullying, but it usually gets resolved quickly. These kids are amazing.

I like how the kid said “thank you, daddy”. Very respectful of his father so his father was respectful of his sons wishes to have a dog. I’ll bet this young man is an excellent dog parent.

The fact that a 7 year old is so articulate not only in his letter but also the way he reads his letter out is just impressive to me! Rowan is a very bright child indeed! He is so well spoken and his speech is incredible - he can read with such animated expression and is able to demonstrate a variety of tones already! I couldn't even talk this clearly or even write so well when I was 7 years old! I am so happy to see Rowan and his family gain a new family member - dogs do teach kids responsibilities because the same thing happened to me when I got my first pupper as a teenager! Sending lots of love to Rowan, Pumpkin and his family!

What a great dad. Rowan and Pumpkin are going to have many memories together. As I'm watching this, my dog, actually my son's dog, is sitting by me. We rescued him when he was a pup and my son was 5. 11 years later, they are still best friends.
My son was 12 he is 22. Pepper is 10. They are best friends even though the last 4 yrs she became my dog due to teen yrs and you d adult hood. He home again after my stroke so pepper is so happy his best friend is home

As others have mentioned, Rowan is very articulate and eloquent!!! Also has a great head on his shoulders, which I'm sure he has his parents to thank for. This special pup will be a lifelong gift for him.

OH my gosh this is SO cute! The little boy is so kind and gentle with his puppy. It's like they were made for eachother!!! You could tell the second the puppy was placed in his arms they knew they were buddies for life :)

A puppy is always so good for kids ❤️ now he has a brother he can rely on to always be there for him, up and down. And he can learn some responsibility, take him for walks, and play outside with Pumpkin. Dogs are incredible creatures 😊

We had a Corgi lived to 14 yrs old & joined our Mom 1 month later after she died. He missed her & no longer by her side everyday & night in her latter years. This boy sounds so smart, kind, unbelievable sweet & responsible! Reason is he's modeling his close male role model - his Dad! Amazing Loving Wonderful Dad produces an Amazing Loving Wonderful son!
