This is my all time favourite Sparks song. For just over 2 minutes, it's so full of energy, totally bonkers, manic & dare I say it...yes, futuristic. I was 16 when 'Indiscreet' came out in '76, the 3rd album on Island records, & I still can't understand for the life of me why this wasn't a first single from that album. If they'd have released this instead of 'Get In the swing' & then 'Looks Looks, Looks' I think they would have definitely had a longer run of hits in the 70's. A real lost opportunity in my opinion. This so totally rocks. I would play it non stop, going crazy (without cocaine) dancing around the living room & had it blaring, (when the folks were out of course). Never seen this performance before though either even if it is mimed. A great memory, Best band ever!!
This was the ....time they wouldn't ...even play....1 song of this.......likley because they're performed all this stuff like servants to very few fans then.....
Lyrics T's winter, it's raining You're tired, she's fainting You're bitter, she's brooding But don't be disenchanted Cause you can barley stand it The sweep and the grandeur The scope and the laughter The future, the future The future's got it covered With what will be discovered In the future fun is fun In the future, lots of sun I'll be there, it's up to you You'll be there if you don't do nothing foolish You'll love it, I know it I know what you like and You'll love it, I know it We'll need some vintage vino So wash you feet and stamp away Coming soon and everywhere Everyone will walk on air Now it seems so far away But each day it's getting closer and closer Convenience and pleasure All blended together And culture, and madness You think you've seen it all You've seen it all exept the future
Convenience and pleasure all blended together, years before mobile phones and lap tops, they've always been ahead of their time. Coming soon and everywhere, everyone will walk on air, believe it, lol!
@@danmalone7649 I guess a majority of studio recordings were made that way. Which pissed the bands/artists off, and some didn't even pretend to sing in the mike. The TV studios had to shape up and focus on their own sound equipment, to make it easier to record live AND get a good sound.
I love this track, I would love some one to post LOOKS LOOKS LOOKS as featured on BBC Top of the POPS 1975 or Sparks on TIswas 1975/6 It's out there somewhere?
He has admited he's addictive to coffee. With his energy (adhd ??😂) too much caffeine could cause the same effect. (Yeah, I am entitled to make jokes about adhd, as having the diagnosis. If you have adhd a regular 9-5 office job isn't ideal, that isn't what the Mael brothers have had. That doesn't mean I am trying to diagnose either of them!! 😁 No way!)
@@phil-ys3cf , according to both of the brothers and those who have known them for decades, never. No reason not to believe them. I doubt both would still be so healthy, energetic and creative well into in their seventies if they were drug users.

For heaven's fucking sake!!!
That's the perfect mix of Punk and Prog!!!
Glad someone else noticed
These electric moves by Russell are so much better than his New Wave dance in the 80's
Electric Mick Jagger
Yes it's a lot easier to dance when you don't have to sing
Naw. His 80's moves were even better.

@@cookmoore3736 In the documentary he tells, he tried to be like Jagger "but did everything wrong"😂. Russell is surely happy!
This is an amazing song. The lyrics are next level!
Lyrics
T's winter, it's raining
You're tired, she's fainting
You're bitter, she's brooding
But don't be disenchanted
Cause you can barley stand it
The sweep and the grandeur
The scope and the laughter
The future, the future
The future's got it covered
With what will be discovered
In the future fun is fun
In the future, lots of sun
I'll be there, it's up to you
You'll be there if you don't do nothing foolish
You'll love it, I know it
I know what you like and
You'll love it, I know it
We'll need some vintage vino
So wash you feet and stamp away
Coming soon and everywhere
Everyone will walk on air
Now it seems so far away
But each day it's getting closer and closer
Convenience and pleasure
All blended together
And culture, and madness
You think you've seen it all
You've seen it all exept the future
These were from my younger days and indeed a great group, progressive ground braking, great music. thanks for the memory.
Genius... simply perfect... listening to this on the 8 track was difficult with its program placement... it just made me listen more & more
This sounds 5 years before its time. Very New Wave
omg, Russell is soooooo hyper, wow
i have just one word to say: AMAZING
i love russell's voice in this song so much

I was there for that taping. There were less than 20 people in the audience.
Lucky people!
So I take it that the applause is dubbed in.
@@matthatter2849 Everything is dubbed in, there's no live sound there whatsoever.

I always wondered what The Who covering a Ramones/Devo crossover would be like. Now I know.
Wow great to see Sparks on Kirshner
I love it :)
what a find never seen this.

Also, reading all the drug jokes in this comment section makes me feel alive. Keep it up lads
So cool
Choooon !!!
Wow, this is epic! Really sad about the text over it but fortunately you can't really suppress Sparks ;)
something tells me Cardiacs were fans
Tour de force
greeeeeat
Like Mick Jagger, on 20 cups of espresso.
Amazing footage. Too bad it's just synced to the studio track from the album.
Russelll has got ants in his pants here.
I know that "cocaine is a helluva drug" is overused here on You Tube, but I think this time it's totally appropriate for Russell. LOL.
@@mollyscot3231 I believe you. However, it does seem like he's got a little more energy here than usual.

Lip-sync'd but fun to watch.
blinding
There will hopefully be less caffeine.
Loved the band but i always thought Russell looked awkward
that's his openness america still isn't ready for sadly.
I couldn't stand his HUGE eyes! 😂😂
Now I think they were beautiful, and still are.

Coffee and Mountain Dew.
Bien avant Devo
Drugs were really good back then
Or just a well lived ADHD? 🤔
A little bit like Ty Pennington, Extreme Makeover:Home Edition.
People can be crazy by nature, mustn't be drugs.
The Mael’s were never drug addicts.
