The reason why many Filipinos can sing is because almost every house has a karaoke. And our parents push us to sing (or dance) whenever we have guests come over. Haha good old days

our old folks pushing us to sing and dance. that is so true. i remember when i was 4 my family will always invite neighbors to watch me sing and dance. i loved it when i was little. but when i became aware that singing and dancing is a profession, i started asking my mom if the neighbors are going to pay. since then she stopped inviting neighbors. :D

The Standard for a Filipino person to be considered good singer is they need to be able to sing songs from Whitney, Celine, Mariah, Beyonce and other international&local Divas.
If they can sing those standard songs on higher key with their own version then people will recognize them.

+Music Game News probably Another reason why Filipinos standard is so high when it comes to singing is cause of our own Diva Regine Velasquez. She's known as the Asia's Songbird. She have her own versions of standard songs of american divas but higher keys. If a person can sing her songs then they probably can sing any song.

no we do not have voice lesson in our school curriculum but in the Philippines, music is a part of our daily life.... We grew up with ballad songs and most of the original Filipino songs are slow with full of emotions giving the singers the opportunity to harness their voice potential and showcase their talent.... Music in the philippines is used to convey our most natural emotions so we could give a song to a lot of life situation like when one is having a crash, a song for your first heart break, of losing someone, having a one-sided love, missing someone, breaking up, saying good bye to a friend and so on.... Filipinos like to sing to relieve stress and pour out emotional aches.... you can see a lot of videoke machines all around the Philippines for anyone who would like to sing.... its one of our favorite past time

Okay, so I may be too late to answer your question about Filipinos but I will still say what I think is the reason. You see, Filipinos are kind of free spirited. I mean, if you walk along the streets everyday, you'll hear people singing. Not just in the Karaokes but literally on the street while walking (I've done some myself). And we tend to speak different dialects, adopting different intonations and pronunciations--I, myself, speak 4 Philippine dialects and 2 languages. We are also very critical with people speaking english. If you want to speak english, you have to make sure that you have a perfect grammar and good pronunciation, otherwise, you'll be sneered at. We strive for perfection at this. But of course, not everyone succeeds.
So going back to my point, because of these activities - the "loud" Filipino nature, we tend to develop good vocals and appropriate breathing, not to mention that most of us are encouraged by our parents to sing since we were young. My mother, specifically, was a singer herself. So I was totally influenced by that. And Filipinos are so competitive. It's no joke, in my city, we have myriad competitions going about every month (which can sometimes go awry). And I am saying all of these because when I got to where I am now, outside the Philippines, it's so different. I find it really boring. I want to sing while walking but I'm afraid people will give me weird looks, and they don't do it at all. I swear, I can only sing here inside of my room when my roommate and suite mates are gone, and still afraid that someone will hear me from the hallway.😱

Filipinos are fond of singing and most households have karaoke to hone their singing skills. Traditionally, any gatherings we hold will not be complete if there is no singing. This is how we showcase our singing talent on a regular basis. Its like you are in a contest when you sing in a gathering. That is why there is a need for every ordinary Filipino singers to keep on practicing their technical singing skills to get the WOW moment from the audience during gatherings. Children, too, are encouraged to sing at home so their singing talent can be tapped at a young age. Come maturity, they will be like seasoned professional singers already.

morissette is 18 yrs old.and yes there is a lot of great singer in the philippines .that's why they come cheap by the dozen,As david foster said that is nation of singers..Even when you visit last vegas . Most of the bands that play on big name hotels or resorts are filipino bands...and can i make a request.. Pl's try to react to this 10 yr.old singer.Her name is Cydel Gabutero. Don't you know before our dearest morissette audition on the voice, she had her tumor removal on her lymph nodes surgery if I'm not mistaken. BUT GOODNESS GRACIOUS SHE IS RIGHT NOW!!! IT WAS LIKE SHE HAVEN'T EXPERIENCE A TUMOR REMOVAL!!!! MORISETTE IS A BIG NAME NOW AND I'm huge fan of her since the voice and now she is becoming the mariah carey of our country but SHE IS STILL MORISSETTE WHO CAN FIND HER OWN STYLE IN EVERY SONG! Even foreigners noticed how underrated some singers are in the Philippines; they were expecting a warmer response from the audience but they (the audience) were as cold as the title - "Stone Cold". I could also remember the same "stone cold" response from the audience when Charice once performed in a TFC show. She (Morissette) is indeed, for me, the most talented female singer now in the Philippines, or even in the world, perhaps.

You are not commenting a nonsense reaction and you also share how the singer handles the note or does the singer has technical problem with their performance. I'm a Filipino and I would agree with you about your comment at then end. This kind of performance doesn't deserve that kind of clapping after her performance.

its a small gig. i attended one of her gigs once. a crowd of 150 people and she's really good. she's underrated i say. i personally witnessed how good filipinos are in singing. ive wandered around the streets of cebu and manila and some parts of northern luzon and i can testify that most of them can really sing. there is like a categorized singing competition in all of every occassions there especially during fiestas literally from kids to adults. love from taiwan
