"And now we know better." Not everyone. Last year my doctor told me to cut down on fat to improve the NAFLD. I laughed, walked out of his office for the last time, and got serious about Keto. Haven't had it checked again yet, but since then I've lost 50 pounds and lowered my AIC from 5.9 to 5.2. :)

Mine sent me a prescription for a statin when my total cholesterol was just over 200 on my annual bloodwork. I knew I had been eating way too many carbs during the start of the pandemic, but he never asked me if anything had changed with my eating. Anyway, I threw that out and got back on track cutting out the carbs as well as doing some intermittent fasting, and dropped 45 lbs. Can't wait to go back this year and tell him to pound sand with his pills. I really need to find a new doctor.

I had a CT scan last summer because I had some small spots on my lungs even though I'm a nonsmoker and live alone, but the radiologist reads everything seen in the scan. My lung spots had gotten smaller and were not seen as a problem, but I was diagnosed with a severe fatty liver and severe coronary calcifications for which my doctor immediately wanted to put me on a statin, but I refused. No suggestion was made for my severe fatty liver but after decades of eating a high carb diet I wasn't surprised at the fatty liver although I had no symptoms from it.
In August I went on the keto diet/lifestyle and in 6 weeks I lost about 40 pounds which included my abdominal fat in particular (I reckoned that when you go into ketosis that your body burns the fat where you have it). In the course of the next few months I weaned myself off of my 4 hypertension meds. I had my yearly physical in January and had not seen my doctor in a year and when he saw me and my weight loss he was just, "Wow! Look at you."
I reminded him the last thing I said to him upon leaving a year earlier was that only good can come from losing weight.
He was perfectly fine with my keto diet and said he has other patients get off their blood pressure meds with keto and that maybe he would try it himself. I have another CT scan scheduled for this summer to see how the lung spot are doing and the radiologist will again report on my liver and I hope it will be seen to no longer be a severe fatty live.
I hope my coronary calcifications will be improved as well.
At age 68 I am no longer on any prescribed medications and my doctor told me that I am a pharmaceutical company's worst nightmare. He knows the deal and part of how he gets paid is tied to patient improvement for the conditions they are being treated and it's easier and quicker to accomplish that by prescribing a pill rather than suggesting a lifestyle change to improve their health.

Look into vitamin K. It is claimed that this pulls out excessive calcium from tissues back into the skeleton. Apparently calcium is drafted into blood vessels (along with cholesterol) as a means of repairing artery walls damaged by too much sugar. This ,however, causes blockages and possible strike and heart attacks. I'm looking into it myself whilst doing key and intermittent fasting.

@@stevenjackson5213 oh you are so wrong about God. He created everyone and everything. He intensely cares about the humans he created. We are made in the image of God, but Adam when he sinned messed up a perfect world. Now, we are a sinners, separated by one Holy and Almighty God. The only way to reconcile with a holy God is to come to a saving knowledge of His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus gave Himself up on the cross and was crucified for His people. We cannot come to God through a decision, not walking down an isle and saying a prayer. God, the Father, must draw us to himself. When you sense that strong pull to be saved, respond immediately or each time you deny God and refuse His offer of salvation, you harden your heart even more. When you sense God's calling, drawing you to Himself, run to Jesus Christ, He is the one who suffered and died for you. He took our sins upon Himself for us (the saved, children of God) and suffered and died for me and you, if you put all your trust into the God of the universe, creator of all things. Repent, (turn away from your sins) plead for forgiveness, seek God and be saved! The Holy Spirit will come into you and transform you, because God has given you a new heart to love Him and to obey Him with. Faith in Jesus Christ means action, obeying what God commands of everyone in the Bible, stop sinnining, tell others of the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, tithe, grow in holiness, it is a lifelong striving, join a Bible believing, Bible teaching Church to be around other Christians who will love you and help you grow in the knowledge of God. This is the true church. There are many false churches and teachers out there. Be blessed.

Jesus the Jew was never a Christian nor would he support Christianity as it is a false religion. Jesus the Jew said to follow the law. So if you want to be right with God you would be an Orthodox Jew as was Jesus. Jesus would turn over in his grave if he witnessed Christianity. Again, if you believe in mythology.

I was diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis (very rare) 3 years ago with sky high liver enzymes and a liver biopsy showing stage 2 fibrosis. I have an ultrasound each year looking for fatty liver among other things. So far that has never shown up. My gastroenterologist does not recommend any diet except the usual party line. I was already a low carber, but I went even lower to near zero. So far with just the minimum maintenance dose of an immune suppressor drug I have had no flairs and my liver enzymes checked every 3 months are both near 20. I credit the very low carb diet for managing this AIH even though the medical profession says there is not a diet to follow (except one that would raise my blood sugar!) It is my understanding that it is possible to reverse the stage of fibrosis, but I will have to be on immune suppressors the rest of my life even if another biopsy shows no fibrosis. Even those that have transplants still have the autoimmune disease and it returns, since it is not a liver disease per se.

    Hi Dr. Cywes,
Could you make a video where you address the dietary guidelines as recommended by the WHO. I read through some parts of their World Cancer Report 2020 and what I found highly surprising was that they consistently advise against high consumption of red meat and even go as far as stating that it could potentially cause cancer such as colorectal cancer for example.
Another thing I find a bit strange is that they use the term "processed meat" almost always after using "red meat". To my understanding and watching a lot of your material, these are two completely different things. Thanks!

If you're worried about cortisol, you're only making the problem worse. Just make sure you get plenty of fat and less protein than you think to go easy on your liver. Something like 1:2 or 75g protein to 150g fat, versus the usual 50:50 some do for keto.

Too much fat and you'll get undigested fat in your stools. Or gain weight if you manage to fight the fullness. Too little fat and too much protein is usually the problem. Too much protein and one that's insulin resistant can try to run off of protein for energy instead of the fat. And you want the protein for building blocks, not fuel.

From webMD: High triglyceride levels can be a clue that you have fatty liver disease. Poor eating habits lead not only to high levels of fat in the bloodstream (triglycerides) but increased storage of fat throughout the body, including in the liver. Elevations in liver function tests (like ALT and AST) can indicate that fatty liver is present. Fatty liver usually does not cause symptoms, but unless reversed, fatty liver can lead to permanent liver damage and cirrhosis.
