Hi Dave! I my first words I want to thank you for all the hard work you do, live is better an a bit easier when I can find answers or learn a new thing.
I have instal newly purchased antenna EAntenna DX13M from ML&S UK It's been advertised as multiband ( 1.8-50Mhz ) and it kinda is. I was aware that top band is rather tricky to get on but hoped that antenna will work, but it doesn't. Also 14Mhz band wile tuning is on killing my keyboard and mouse ( only on 14Mhz )
While I can live with 20m issue as I have Inverted Vee which is perfect on 80-6m, lack of top band makes me sad.
Now, I have no radials yet, I have attached 2m of copper tube where radials supposed to be attached and as ground water level here is around 50cm I ''dipped'' the tube into water
Using just 5W I made contats with stations in a radius of 5K miles so it kinda works hahahah
What would you suggest to do so I could finally use top band?
I have AATU AT-100 Pro II tuner.
Will appreciate any suggestions very much Dave.

Once again you can make you own Radial plate out of a 15" pizza pan, Use your drill press and drill a hole every 5 degees which will yeild you 72 attachment points, Take a hole drill and make a 2" center hole. Now you've built the plate for around $25.00, The most expensive part will be the stainless hardware. 73 ki0ad/Jim
FWIW most of my radials are from stripping apart CAT5/6 cable it is exceedingly inexpensive. Not very robust, but I have so many that a few damaged ones will have no effect. The soil is very conductive here, so results may not be typical. At one point I was surprised how effective 16 radials of just 2m length were even on 80m.

Fer me my EFHW dipole at 30' or so above ground always beats my ground mounted vertical with 10 radials of various lengths also on the ground which produces a low SWR under 1.5:1 .... And yes, I know I'm comparing apples to oranges....tnx Dave 73/K6SDW

Appreciate the good video Dave. Having insulated ground radial wires is a great idea. Over the years, have experimented with both ground mounted and elevated vertical antennas. Am partial to my EFHW though. BTW, lawnmowers love to eat those radial wires for dinner, if caution is not used when mowing. 73, AC3HT

For a point of reference, I recently installed a ground mounted Hustler 4BTV vertical with 28 - 32 ft. radials. I am very happy with the results both on SSB and FT8.
16 radials seems to work really well for me on my 20 meter vertical
Your statement about a raised antenna with radials straight out having an resonant impedance of around 30 ohms is, of course, correct. I built my raised vertical with sloping radials. I find this brings the impedance up. Somewhere around 45 degrees yields a 50 ohm impedance. Local conditions such as the type of ground, any buildings around the antenna, or the height of the antenna will effect the final performance of the antenna to some extent. That's a long way to say your mileage may vary.

Thinking about the Resonant 1/4 wave Ground Plane's 36 ohm Feed Impedance would Seem to be Half the Dipole's normal 72 ohm feed Z 'cause 1/2 the Dipole antenna is Missing !! .....45° Angling Down the Radials is simply Replacing back Some (50%) of the Missing Dipole Half, conveniently approaching 52 ohm feed Z.....If you Can't or Don't want to Angle down the Radials, Adding a simple Shorted Hairpin Stub across the Feed Terminals will let you tune out any accumulated complex Reactances to a perfect 1:1 Swr....

just get a titan dx by gap antennas and eliminate the need for radials problem solved and as an extra the antenna is resonant on multiple bands with a swr of 1.1 or less on most bands and covers from 40 to 6 meters with a capacitor it covers a bit of the 80-meter band you can order a capacitor to tune your favorite part of the 80-meter band and is omni directional

How close can wires be on a fan vertical?
Dave, I have an HF9V ground mounted with twenty 25 foot radials. When we get rain, the resonant frequency goes up. After it dries, it returns to, or near to original. These radials are on the ground and I have the vertical bonded to an extensive ground system. Any ideas what is going on?
Water is conductive, this changes the swr because the electrical length is now slightly different due to the ground being wet and more electricly friendly
I always thought it was strange that for a vertical mounted on a roof only requires two radials 180 degrees apart to work well.
Great Video, Dave and very informative. In 2009 I bought a Hustler 5 btv vertical and put down 25 radials in lengths from 20 to 35 ft. I used bare electric fence wire because it was cheep and it worked great - but was a big mistake because the wire rusted and deteriorated in about 5-6 years. I have since replaced them with 14 gauge insulated stranded copper wire. I didn't bury the radials, instead I mowed my lawn on a low setting, laid out the radials, stapled them down and let the sod grow over them. It's been working great. de KE7LOY
