  • The Hatfield Squat gets its name from the world record holding squatter who created it: Dr. Fred Hatfield, aka "Dr. Squat." It is a simple and underrated variation that adds a little twist to the squatting movement, and that little twist yields some pretty awesome and unique benefits.
    By going hands free on the bar itself and grasping the handrail out in front of you instead, you are able to shift your balance during the exercise. By doing this you can better control your torso positioning during the lift and play around with different stances as well. Different stances means a different training stimulus on the legs. In my case it allows me to very easily achieve much more range of motion, which is great for building mass in the legs. Better torso control means the legs can also be overloaded in terms of volume without the back becoming a limiting factor in the lift.
    So as you can see this little tweak creates some pretty cool changes to the movement! Today I explain 3 of the major benefits that you can get by using the Hatfield Squat variation as a staple in your training program. This rarely talked about exercise may be just the tool you need to take your leg strength and size to the next level!
