    Hi Michael, that is a cool fix. To be honest I think the purpose may even be more mundane than what Marantz is doing. Because this amplifier (at least with this part of the circuit) is not disconnecting the speakers from the amplifier output. I think the only thing they are trying to do is to have the music come on at full power and go off instantly, rather than slowly increasing in volume as the main capacitors charge and slowly fade away as they discharge (the kind of effect that is so typical for valve amps due to the warm up of the valves). Any way, that is a cool alternative and I actually like it more than the switch. The only reason why I think they do not do this in the factory, is that the resistor may have to be tuned to the transistor. Also if in three months your amplifier does not come on again, I would go back to that resister. You may have to tune it again.

      Thanks Hugo for the comment, yes I will know that if I suddenly loose any output the first place to look is at that resistor.
