You have asked a very valid question. The reason is that in ED we can only follow the standards and conventions which should not be changed as they suit our need. So, the convention is that the HP is rotated clockwise to bring the FV and the TV on a 2D. This is like opening up of the 1st quadrant and the 3rd quadrant. If we follow this convention then obviously we have problem of overlap in 2nd angle and 4th angle projection systems. If we were going to rotate the HP in anti-clockwise direction, as suggested by you, then there will be no issue for the 2nd and 4th angle projections but the problem of overlap will arise in the 1st angle and 3rd angle projections. Either way we have problem that we can only use two projection systems at a time. Hence, we should follow the convention of rotating HP clockwise and use only the 1st angle and 3rd angle projection systems. ED is like a language and the rules of this language should be followed strictly so that we can all easily communicate technical drawings with each other. Thanks a lot for asking!

If it is overlap each other then why not you rotate HP in anticlockwise..? What is reason to rotate HP in clockwise..?
