I love my Thirsty earth watering cups! I am a first time gardner and came across these doing research. My garden looks amazing! And our water bill is enjoying a huge savings!

You build a great demonstration, but you should really do a time lapse. There's no good demonstration to show people online.Exactly how an way it works that you can visualize like this And you built a fantastic one

So the olla is filled as needed by the bucket. Is that dependent on the top cover piece being water tight? Cause if it's not water tight for whatever reason. Wouldn't all the water just be drained from the resevoir bucket?

They are water tight. The pastic lid has a rubber seal. Quite a fantastic design.

How far does the water get from the olla though? do roots have to be almost touching the olla or does the water spread through the soil as it slowly seeps out?

At low pressure, the olla creates about an 18" plume of water around it.

It's a cutaway illustration. You'd otherwise be watching dozens to hundreds of hours of videos to see it working because it works so slowly (that's a good thing)
