Hi DP Family! I have been following your channel quite religiously. I cannot thank you enough for every single content that you created and shared in this channel. At this point, you have made it super clear that portfolio is the key. I have watched all the videos about portfolio. I don't think I have seen any video covering these questions. (1) Should a portfolio for people primarily targeting a freelancing opportunity be different from those targeting to be hired? (2) If so, do you guys cover that difference in your bootcamp? I will probably post these questions in other portfolio videos. I ask your forgiveness for the redundancy. However, I'd really to hear from you guys. I am trying increase my chance. Thank you all again!

Hey there, Congrats on creating your portfolio! For the most part, the elements are the same. But you may want to position your offerings directly to the type of clients you want to work with.
And yes! The team works with you individually in the bootcamp to tailor your portfolio to the specific opportunities you're hoping to find (freelance vs. FT) :D

@@DevlinPeckYT Thank you so much for the prompt reply. I am watching your "the cost of doing business as a eLearning Freelancer" now. I will reach out to you regarding the bootcamp later through your website.

    Very informative!
I've heard that it's frowned upon to do portfolio projects with Education as the subject matter while many of us are former teachers? Is this true? Or maybe it's if you're applying to corporate roles?
I have some great project ideas that stem from my experience as a Math instructor. Some of these ideas are 'real problems' students encounter when learning Math ( a concept or topic) where I would provide a solution so it's much easier for students to learn and retain.
Would something like this be appropriate?

Thanks for checking it out! And I encourage you to do a project that helps solve a problem for adult learners (in my experience, the corporate bias comes in when you’re only showing off designing learning for kids). We’ve had many people go through the bootcamp with flagship projects that are designed to help teachers or instructional coaches in a K12 setting, and they’ve landed really competitive corporate ID roles. Check out the portfolios and you’ll definitely see some education projects throughout: www.devlinpeck.com/showcase. I also wouldn’t recommend including multiple education projects…you don’t want to give people the idea that it’s ALL you work on. But if you’re showing off your process and ID skills and the setting happens to be in education, you’re good to go 😃

Hi! I’m a university student from Germany, currently aiming for my master of education. I recently discovered the ID field and I can see myself working in this industry. Would you say that your bootcamp is also appropriate for me as a German person? I have also found some master degrees here in Germany, but I would like to work as soon as possible after my masters degree.

We've worked with a handful of people outside of the U.S. who have been successful in the bootcamp and found roles in their countries or as global freelancers. It just depends on what your goals are!
Once you apply and are accepted, someone on the team will reach out to schedule an interview to learn more about your situation. They can help you determine if the bootcamp is a good fit for what you're looking for :)

Do companies sometimes hire older people?

Absolutely! It's more about the showing how you can apply the theory, use relevant software, and incorporate good design elements than anything else.
