@stevevandien Dear sir, there is no need to apologize at all. It's only matter of different opinions about something, which is not bad. I agree with you with the concept of a bass with a baritone extension. One of the best versions of Le Nozze di Figaro that I've heard is with Van Dam. Unfortunately he probably decided to explore other tones, like in Di Provenza, which was not his comfort zone, as you said. This has happened to other singers as well. Receive my regards from Mexico.
@stevevandien I respectfully disagree with you. Other singers have also given perfect performances, let's just remember Di Stefano, Francisco Araiza, Tito Gobbi or Maria Callas and many others. Jose van Dam was a great singer, there is no doubt on that. But there was a recording of him singing Di provenza il mar from La Traviata, a studio recording, that was just horrible. I looked for the video to show it to you but it has been deleted because it received a lot of negative comments.
Beautiful Baritone
Beautiful singing and accompaniment. Very high level of artistry and beauty.
Grand et vraiment merveilleux José van Dam! Merci pour cette vidéo!
He is my hero with this kind of repertoire.
Elegantly rendered. Calling on all his great experience.
A la découverte du chanteur José van Dam chantant La chanson triste d'Henri Duparc
Jose van Dam, my love!! -3
Is there a more elegant Singer? A rare one.
Bravo
@lampardmusic Unfortunately there isn't a DVD of this recital.

Great performance. But Jose van Dam's recording of "Di Provenza il mare e il suol" from La Traviata, is the worst ever.
