The rod that you are talking about is called as "Anti-roll bars" or "Sway bars". Its a hard metal rod made to stabilize the vehicles at corners and bumps(I can realate how hard you guys have hit the pillar). It can be fixed but not sure how much it will hold. A new one shouldnt cost much. Its actual price is somewhere around 2800-3000. Not sure of VW's labour charges for that. Happy riding and drive safe!
