I like a decluttered room but not a minimal room. They just feel cold and unfriendly to me. I need my books and my pictures sitting out. I love my plants.I would live to have a log cabin and make it cozy and a retreat from lifes stresses
Anne, I totally respect the Minimalist idea, and I watch all of these younger ladies decorate their white homes with little...all from Hobby Lobby, etc., which is absolutely stunning...BUT!🤭 I just love all of my antiques and collectibles that have taken me 40 years to collect. I love rearranging my things and dusting and polishing and just loving on them. They are my source of comfort. I just love the beautiful one of a kind things I come across in the prowls of old shops. And I have white walls and white covers on all of my beds, so that I can use any colors I choose for each season! However, I could never have 8 plates, bowls, and cups. I have so many old and precious dishes. I love each set! And I use them. I love my silver flatware. I do manage to keep it all! I rotate seasonal things and am getting things organized. We just built our “last home” and still have a garage full of stuff, but I will get there. I love all my old treasures...as I know you do! Beautiful video, Anne. Take care, Love!
I'm a maximalist at heart, but I like controlled clutter...all my pretties bring me so much joy and comfort, and I feel it brings warmth and personality to a home. I adore your home Anne, it has so much charm and coziness. Each room just wraps you up like a warm, soft blanket! Plus I'm a shopaholic, so I could never go minimalist! LOL! Your podcasts are awesome, I look forward to them and to your videos every week...hope all is well family and healthwise..sending hugs! xo
It seems like older homes have one of a kind character with how they were built and each room is so different. Your room looks really nice like that! Shows that we decorate without a lot of things and it can look beautiful! Thanks Anne!
Pioneers/pilgrims/early settlers did not have much. Today most people collecting early primitive country have 30 of this, or 50 of that, etc. Not truly authentic if one researches early lives. It wasn't until Victorian times did abundance come into homes. Practicality also is a consideration. Few people can truly live a primitive life today. How much does one really need? Great video Anne. As the Quakers sang, "Tis a gift to be simple, tis a gift to be free."
I think with primitive, it’s so hard not to decorate a lot. It makes it very homey. However I’m at that age where I’m getting rid of things and not really adding to my decor so this appeals to me. Also, I’m a clean freak so being minimalist is a thousand times easier!!!
As I am getting older, less is best and so relaxing! I only keep the things I love! Clutter makes me tired! I love the Primitive look. You have so many beautiful things!
I love the warmth and coziness of things I love. I live in a home built in 1886 so not open concept like modern homes. I’m definitely not a minimalist but want things in the rooms they were intended for. Love your videos!
This is by far my favorite decorating video you have done. I love to simplify. I agree you can breathe and relax. Your rooms looked great! That home was so nice! I had recently simplified my bed room and also painted the walls cream color instead of the teal color I had on the walls. I did this after looking at the bedrooms in an Amish home. I love it!
Hi Anne I was thumbing through the videos and found this, which is actually spot on for me,i have been working on this design for my home over the past 5 months i love that i can see my antiques now it's like a piece of art I still have more work to do and this video really explains it well for me.🕊️💚
I guess you mean less is more; but still, I love the way you decorate your house with more stuff. Especially those cute bunnies, and change it up for every season. To me a house like yours gives me warm and cozy feelings. It's hard for me to have beautiful and primitive stuff, and just hide them is my closet.
What a beautiful home I always wanted to live in an old log home in the woods i live in a small town population a little over five thousand I like the minimalist look for a couple of rooms but I love my stuff I love antique vintage collectables flea market I guess I'm just a maximalist at heart but I can appreciate the beauty of a simply decorated room God bless
I just sold a dealer a truckload of pieces that I was tired of. After I rearranged a few things my husband said “ You are the only person that I know that can sell a load of furniture and an hour later it looks like nothing left!” It’s a gift…😉
Anne Clay - love what you did with your home. It is lovely. My husband and I went to Marietta, Pa to see the house listed. It is about an 1 from our home. What an adorable little town. thank you for sharing the listing. A beauty from the outside. Laurie Manns Adolph
I think it's fun to watch your house evolve. I like what you did to give your room a more minimal look, and...if I'm not mistaken, you painted the cupboard Tom made! I love it!
One thing I remember from my decorating class from years ago is that when you enter a room your eyes start at the top and then drift down. When that happens you need a place for your eyes to rest. Also, odd number of items and don't hang your pictures high.
Great information. It's hard for me to be a minamilist since at my age I've collected so many things. My goal though is to start downsizing. When we move from this monster of a parsonage all this stuff will not fit into a smaller home which I'm hoping will truly be our own.
From Velvet- Peaceful. Relaxing for the mind. How can one really explain it? It feels like the soul is home and the cares of life have been left outside.
*Great Video* . Anne, thanks for sharing your rooms and this house with us. My home is around 1300 sq. ft. . I like a cozy vibe without clutter. I have learned that using larger scale pieces creates the *wow* . You are on point when you talk about balance and scale. I would love to see a video from you on Primitive Colors. While I don't have a Prim decor aesthetic, I do like the moody muted color palette.
Hi Anne. Luved ur video on minimalist rooms. I luv the minimalist primitive look. More like a Shaker look. It brings calmness. Thanx for another interesting and informative video.
Love what you did, Anne. I like what you were saying about the items on the mantel. I may have to try the minimalist style--I need some balance in my life!
Another great video. And I discovered that I am not a minimalist! Although being or having a minimalist style is great! I lean more towards the clutter luck thank you for helping me identify myself a little more clearly. Again another great video and your house is always beautiful
Thank you Anne. You brought out a lot of good points. Now time to walk through my rooms! I love your curtains and can't find them anywhere. Can you help?
My question is...how much of our primitive pieces do "we actually use" and how much is strictly just "display "?Early Americans obviously used their Ironstone, Redware and Yelloware daily, collectors display, yet rarely use for fear of damaging such antiques...it's hard to go minimalist primitive if you actually put that ironstone, redware and yelloware towards everyday use.....Your house is a "Primitive Palace ",Love it!!
Thanks Colleen - yes I think about that too - they used what they had and didn't have extra unless they were very wealthy - even then, I think the wealthy didn't have 1/4 of what we have today.
This was great! I tried being a minimalist but slowly it went the other way. I do agree being a minimalist you appreciate the pieces in itself. Great idea doing this in a room or two. Tfs!
I was inspired by the idea of minimal primitive....but when I got done doing it in my family room...I had to laugh because...everything I removed...ended up in THREE other rooms...and remaoned as much loved clutter ....oops lol!
Hmm guess I am an in between. Like prim but not always dark and like my stitching and such around. Not huge amt of stuff like some but yea more than what they have. But your room is calm theirs is more asture. Hmm interesting h but love the library.lol
It’s beautiful, but I don’t think I could do it... I have so many things I love, that I’d feel like something is missing. Although keeping it clean would be easier. 😊
@@AnneClay After rewatching this video, the Scandinavian artist Vilhem Hammershoi came to mind. The beauty of his renditions of plain but textured dimension to each rooms that show another room within a room. He painted one woman in each painting with her back turned to the viewer doing her sewing, playing piano, reading, standing, etc. A sight to behold, Sigh....beautiful.

Inspirational video. Declutter our homes helps to declutter our minds and refocus on simple beauty. Thank you.
I have enjoyed this video, however, I’m a ‘Maxi’ and love it😊❤️ not too much clutter, but the charm and coziness of my antiques and stuff.
Me too❤
Lovely overview .The houses compersition was very relaxing to view

Great video. Minimalist or not each has its charm. Depends on what you're comfortable living with and what makes you happy.

Such a gorgeous home! Decorated perfectly! 🤎🤎🤎
Thank you for explaining the difference to us. Love the house you are featuring, I am sure it will sell quickly!
Love, love, love the portrait wall. The staircase is amazing. Thanks, Anne for sharing with us. Your room looks fantastic in the minimalist theme! 😊

Beautiful home
It really is!
I live pretty close to Marietta.
Right now I’m really thinking about “Less is More”.... I wish I had less as I’m contemplating moving. Thanks for this video Anne!
Glad it was helpful!
Its another way to present your home and it looks very effective. In my house I just can't choose so it all goes on display 😂❤🤩
It’s beautiful, but I don’t think I could do it... I have so many things I love, that I’d feel like something is missing. Although keeping it clean would be easier. 😊
I enjoyed this your always very interesting I love that home !
Do you know what shade of white they used? Thanks.
