A tracking device would be what I would recommend. Alarms are useless. I should know. Before I retired my business was Automotive Electronics and a major part of my business was alarms up to a few years before I retired. Can you imagine how annoying it would be to listen to multiple alarms going off all the time by accident? I don't even have them on my personal cars anymore. But I do have tracking devices in them. That way you get your vehicle back and possibly get rid of a thief in the process. Just my opinion obviously.

I did several things to determine theft.
    1. I changed the ignition switch to an industrial key switch, less than $15.
2 I installed a kill switch in the line to the ignition switch, and put it in an inconspicuous place.
3 I added a GPS tracker, along with a label on the steering wheel.
These won't guarantee against theft, but will slow them. A good and easy brake lock would help.

Hi Jerry & Linda, thanks for posting this video. I contacted Gold Shield Alarms and had their golf cart alarm put on. Pretty soon lots of Villagers will have the golf cart alarms and those alarms will be going off left and right in the Town Squares causing lots of NOISE POLLUTION (115 decibels is very loud) because: 1) many golf cart owners will forget to disable their alarms and 2) random people will accidentally bump into carts and set off alarms. The alarms are 115 decibels which is VERY LOUD. This video says the Villages is the largest golf cart community in the world and that 30,000 golf carts get stolen per year in the whole of the USA. They also said that in the Villages, about 10 to 20 golf carts get stolen each month - and that equals 120 to 240 golf cart thefts per year in the Villages out of 30,000 annually in the USA. It sounds to me like the Villages is very lucky to have such low theft numbers.

Since the carts are easily put on a trailer by two guys, the only fool proof method seems to me is the boot. Could they move it with the brake pedal lock? They could still move it with the Club. With the Air Tag, you might track it but if it is in a closed garage, what are you gonna do? The cops can’t get to it without a search warrant, and my guess is they won’t go to the trouble. The alarm is a pretty good deterrent.

Most carts are built with the intention of being used on a golf course as rentals or loaners. A course having 50 carts doesn't want to deal with 50 unique keys so they are keyed alike. Thousands of carts are rebuilt into "refurbished" carts in TV and the locks are never changed. I don't think there is any effort to create unique keyed locks so they might be updated. Then if the carts are towed (rather than a key used) on to a trailer they are very light so using a simple winch is all you need to drag one on to the trailer. They get it back to a private garage and the thieves can do as they wish with it.
