Wow, it's amazing that there's still snow up there! Here in the Twin Cities, MN, Boot Season lasted from the end of November through the first week of April. That was over 4 months of continuous snow cover! I'm dreaming of a White Memorial Day, just like the ones I used to know . . . . . . :)
About 25 years ago give or take, my parents decided we should drive down hwy 4 from the pass. I am not sure exactly why. Maybe to visit friends in Reno. Hwy 4 is an odd one, it goes all the way to the bay but not contiguously so guess it has never been fully achieved. I think my grandpa used to go over the pass in early summer to Topaz to fish with his friends and stay a few nights. There is lodging and a restaurant there. Personallly I prefer hwy 88. I was a little concerned all I knew was that it was steep. I don't think that visitors realize that most of the state is cut off by late Fall, I have seen tourists stuck in late October unable to get across due to pass closures and realizing they will have to drive all the way around. Thanks so much!
A thumbs up for grandpa

Haven’t been there since 1992. Had a blast at Bear Valley.
Wait until Tioga Pass opens up, which won't be until sometime in June or July.
