We all have our close-call stories to relate. Anytime your wheels leave the pavement at speed time stands still for a moment. Mine came years ago on a Goldwing dresser leaning into a sharp curve and pouring it on. Unknown to me the yellow lines were freshly painted and still wet (road crew well ahead and out of sight). Coming out of the curve my rear wheel touched the lines and the rear of the bike tried to pass me on the right. I was headed straight for a deep ditch and embankment when the wheel regained traction and went back where it belonged but put me into a violent wobble. I wrestled with it and got her back but had to stop and calm myself down and marvel at how close I came. Inspecting the bike at home later I discovered a yellow stripe on the rear sidewall. After all these years, a curve and solid yellow lines makes me back off the throttle just a bit.
I’ve ridden that road a hundred times before but now I take a deep breath and really ride carefully when I ride in that same area. Thanks for watching and commenting. Your incident must have shaken you up. But to be able to tell the story and keep riding is all that’s really important.
Glad to hear your ok and you didn’t put the bike down. People tailgating can be a real pain in the ass. Since you and I had been talking about retirement bikes I thought I’d let you know that I pulled the trigger 2 days ago. I decided that I really liked adventure touring bikes more then cruisers so I found myself a great deal on a new 2019 Yamaha Super Tenere ES. It has 1200cc, shaft drive, electronic suspension, cruise control, driving modes, TC, heated grips, hard pannier bags, adjustable wind screen and a 5yr warranty for $16,000 out the door. I already have 1100km on it. You ride safe and I look forward to more videos!
Sounds like a great bike for sure! Can't wait to see your review of it. It certainly seems to have all the bells and whistles that I want too. Take care and enjoy the new ride.
It is sad to ear story like the one you had to live, some driver are awfully careless. However you where able to get out of the situation unscathed. Take care buddy
It did scare me and I learned the lesson of just paying attention to what’s in front of me and not worrying about what’s behind me. Thanks for watching and commenting. Ride safe.
Getting caught in the rain sucks at the time, but after the fact and looking back. Sometimes like it was a good experience :-) Good to hear that you did not go down. Boy it does not take much just taking your eyes of the road for a sec. Take care.
My training did kick in when I focused on keeping my eyes away from the slope down the mountain and looked back towards the pavement and luckily was able to get back on it. If I would have looked right down that slope, I'm sure I would have gone down it. Thanks for watching and ride safe.
Glad your good , I don't let people behind me bother me too much , lack of respect just makes me mad , then I go on the defence. I'm glad to see , and hear your safe . Keep up the great vlogs, thanks .
Gully washer, Frog Choker, yep!!!! Get caught sometimes in rain. It seems to always happen when wearing the 1/2 helmet....wonder why? Nice sounding rumble. And the admiring the bike....wife calls it my girlfriend. Looking good. Wish I could keep my that clean. Edit: Tailgaters. I just slow down. I've had 2 times in 60 years where they just got closer and I came to a full stop. I always give 'em time to back off because most people will know they are too close and just let up on the gas rather than brake. Anywho, glad you were/are ok.
I don’t mind getting caught in the rain, but got nailed with marble size hail on the bike a few times and man is it loud when it hits the helmet. Some neighborhoods here got hit with egg size hail last nice and posted a vid about it. Glad you made out ok bro.
I've ridden in the rain a lot, but never hail. I would probably be looking for a place to pull over if I started getting pelted by hail stones. Thanks for watching and ride safe.
GA Ramblin Man 1 second ago I was pretty sure I was going down - would not have been the first time, but glad I was able to get back on the pavement. Thanks for watching and commenting. Ride safe.
Glad you are ok man, I use to get people riding my butt and it really ticks me off when people do that, since I've installed the Custom Dynamic's ProBeam LED's with the majic strobes usually I brake check them and most of the time they back way off, I know you don't have many lights on the back of your bike but if you had the ProBeam LED's and the magic strobe, I think it would help you man, I just don't want to see anyone else get killed or even injured, so stay safe brother 💯
I'm definitely thinking about some sort of strobe brake light - it's been difficult to find LED light upgrades for this 15 year old motorcycle, but I keep looking. Thanks for the suggestion.
GA Ramblin Man 1 second ago I was pretty sure I was going down - would not have been the first time, but glad I was able to get back on the pavement. Thanks for watching and commenting. Ride safe.
We’re all getting out again. I’m riding my Suzuki boulevard from Augusta where one of my sons lives to Houston where my other son lives. Stopped after my first leg in Tifton, Ga. going to take a slow ride and follow 98 along the gulf shore avoiding New Orleans and other bigger cities due to the times. Great hearing from you. Be careful.
Glad you're OK Doug! I hate that situation. It's really tough to ignore tailgaters and car drivers don't understand the challenges of being on a twisty road on a bike.
I wondered what was going through his head when he was right up on my rear like he was. I think it scared him when he saw me go off the road and hopefully he learned his lesson, but probably not. Thanks for watching and commenting. Ride safe.
I have no room for tailgaters. None. On my way home from work a few months ago, some impatient guy got just a few feet off my rear tire at 60mph. I flashed brake lights at him, he didn’t back off. So I eased out of the throttle because that’s what every driver training has told me to do. He slowed but didn’t back off, and when the right lane cleared enough for him, he passed me. With his left side tires IN MY LANE. I debated following him to wherever he was going to let him know what I thought, but I let him go. (Before any know-it-all, holier-than-thou super riders tell me I was hogging the left lane, I wasn’t. I was going 60 in a 55 on a 4 lane state highway with blind intersections where people will pull right out in front of you. I was also following traffic at 2-3 seconds in front of me and the left lane was running faster than the right. I watch my mirrors in traffic to avoid getting in people’s way). Anyway, glad it turned out well for you. Ride safe.
I really don’t get tail gaters on a motorcycle - it’s just so dangerous. I think some people just don’t like motorcyclists. Thanks for watching and commenting. Ride safe.
Has been my motto too in the USAF but I do admit wearing the half helmet and t-shirts sometimes in the hot summer. But no more. Thanks for watching and commenting. Ride safe.
GA, I love the sound of those pipes on the Boulevard. Interesting that you posted this as dealing with tailgaters is a topic I've planned on discussing in an upcoming video. Last summer I had a similar experience with what looked like a teenager tailgating me on a mountain highway. I caught myself tensing up and getting choppy rounding the curves. Fortunately we got to a spot where I was able to wave them on around me. Ride safe.
I wish I could have waved this guy around me. He definitely affected my riding and concentration and caused me to drift over into the shoulder. Thanks for watching and I really like your bike and vlogs.
Bike looks real nice. No thoughts about an upgrade to a Harley or Indian yet? Tail gaiters scare me and some times there is just no where to go to get them off your tail and of course they don't care there in a nice protective environment! Thanks.
I think about it a lot, but am waiting to I retire officially, which could come anytime to pull the trigger on a new bike. Work is pretty busy now and I don't want a new motorcycle to have to sit in my garage while I'm working. I plan on riding every day or most every day when I retire. Thanks for watching and commenting. Ride safe.
Thanks. It’s definitely made me even more aware of the dangers out there and making sure I do as much as I can to ride safely. Thanks for watching. Ride safe
you probably dont care at all but does any of you know a way to log back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb forgot my password. I love any help you can offer me.
@Santana Mayson thanks so much for your reply. I found the site on google and im trying it out atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Great video as always. Yes here in Georgia too, super happy to be out on the Suzuki as well. Glad you were okay in that situation, I know it was a scary event. And great call riding with your gear. My motto it is better to sweat than bleed. be safe bud!
I'm glad you're ok! I'll be deep cleaning my newly acquired Honda shadow 1100 soon, I'm really wondering what to use as I've really never deep cleaned my bike before, I know I gotta get some leather stuff for my seat and degreaser for the engine, soap and bucket etc, I've heard real fine steal wool does great on chrome.
There’s plenty of cleaning products to choose from for sure. I really like the Harley Davidson chrome polish. Does a great job and any spray in and wipe off wax will probably do for all the painted parts. Thanks for watching and have fun getting that beautiful Honda Shadow 1100 looking like it’s new.
Happy Birthday and it's good that restaurants are opening up again. Slowly getting back to normal around here. Thanks for watching and commenting. Ride safe.
I’ll probably keep it when I do get a new bike. I’ve owned it for 8 years and it was the best decision I’ve made on a bike purchase for sure. Thanks for watching and ride safe.
When maniacs tailgate me like that, I get as far over into lane position 3 as I can, slow down and wave the idiot around me. Let them go be stupid ahead of you, not behind you. Glad you and that showroom new C50T are ok!
Thanks for the advice - this road was just so curvy and narrow there was not enough room for this guy to get around me - I should have just ignored him and continued to ride my normal pace and eventually he could have gotten around me at the bottom of the mountain, but it was a good lesson learned for me to keep focused on what's in front of me especially on roads like this. Thanks for watching and commenting. Ride safe.
Awesome to see ya out and riding again. Love your videos. I'm thinking about selling my VZ800 and going with a C50. Love the sound of your bike. Have a question, what gopros are you using and how were you able to switch between the 2 cameras? Really adds to the video. Keep riding!
I love the sound of the Cobra pipes too. Great exhaust note. I have 2 GoPro’s - one Hero 7 Black and one Hero 8 Black. One is mounted to the chin bar on my full face helmet and one is mounted to my handle bars. When I start recording I turn both cameras on at the same time and let them record away. When I’m done I download both raw videos into a video editing software I have called PowerDirector. It allows you to edit the videos of up to 4 separate cameras into one video. You just switch back and forth between views on the screen as your editing the final video. You can choose which camera you want to use the soundtrack on and the software syncs all the videos so that the audio is consistent even if you are switching camera views. It takes a little practice but it’s the best software out there for multi-camera applications. Thanks for watching. Ride safe.
