The inspiration for the Remo Powerstroke 77 drumhead dates back to 1988 with a Marching head Remo was making at the time. That 'old' clear marching head was being played and tested by Remo artists everywhere. Bob Yerby, Vice President Sales & Marketing for Remo, gives you the undisputable details and the secret behind the idea for the Powerstroke 77.
A great story with great insights on how the Powerstroke 77 works on a drumset.
This Coated snare drumhead is available in sizes 10", 12", 13", and 14".

This is the best snare head ever. You don't need any muffling. It's works well at any tuning. It just does what you want it to do

I’ll never go back to anything else.. it’s as if Remo said, hey dude, we know exactly what you want to hear out of your snare, here you go P77. I use Evans for everything else

Chris That tripped me up initially too, then I rewatched it and saw my mistake. 7 mils was only referring to the inlay ring. Each of the main layers is 5 mils (presumably, he doesn’t actually say) and the dot is 5 mils. So, 10 mils around the dot, 15 mils on the dot, and 17 mils at the inlay ring. That’s a lot of Mylar, lol!

@Chris Definitely. I’ve got to try one. There’s a 5 1/2” x 14” steel Premier in my basement that would probably sound great with it.

@@michaelandcolinspop The head is 2 plies of 7 mil with a 5 mil center dot and a 7 mil inlay ring.

@Rob Well, if each layer is 7 mils, that means the dot is 1 mil, which seems really, really, odd and, frankly, almost impossible given the thickness of the dot. Per the video of the guy responsible for the product line, the head is 15 mils at the center and the dot is 5 mils. So, that means that each layer is either 5 mils or some combination which adds up to 10 mils, i.e. 6+4 or 7+3, etc. Again, per the guy actually responsive for producing and marketing the head, it’s 15 mils at the center. By your math, the total thickness at the center would be 19 mils (5 mil dot + 7 mils + 7 mils). Call me nuts, but I’ll trust the Remo guy.
Can we just agree that it’s a good head, all math aside?
